With all this wind and rain we've had a hell of a time at work over the last few days (powerlines). Very little sleep running around putting everyone back on, taking trees off lines and services and yet...
There is some ungrateful sobs out there.
While a lot of customers are nice, thankful offer a drink or warm coffee. Others... are unbelievable to deal with. Form the moment we rocked up to their place, we cop abuse for taking so long, and why "our" lines failed, when THEIR bloody tree fell across the line in the first place. Or worse, when the HUGE tree in their property took out the mains and took the whole street or feeder off. Very frustrating, and makes you feel so low. Like I really want to be away from my family, and in wind and rain at 3AM in the morning copping abuse from some low life, because his power is off and he cannot play GTA5. It's as if I control weather...
Even though the $ is good, no more for me for a while. Told work to stick it. Don't call me outside of my usual working hours. Need a mental break more than anything.

With this weather I have been thinking about you mate... my brother in law has no power as a council tree fell on the lines and damaged there house its not a quick fix as the house has to be repaired first then the line can be attached.
They have been very patient but the council has been very rude to them.... all the trades people have been good but are stretched to there limits.
With todays weather there will be many more days ahead for you!!!!!

Just got back from a few days hunting in the high country - Alpine National park . Frustrating to hear every night shots fired inside the park and on departure a dog crew working an area of the park also . Parks staff/ DSE are not doing enough in my book . Its a worry when you do the right thing and park near the gates and walk in , when you come back what state your vehicle will be in . The high country is becoming the ' wild west ' from what I have seen . The state of a couple of the campsites I seen also were disgraceful . My vent for the day ...

G'day folks,
Not what has made me angry, what has made me sad.
The passing on Monday of a life long friend of our family, my dads, best mate Gordon Quinton. Dad had known Gordon for over 47 years. Traveled out to Australia the first time to NSW n 1966 and finally WA in 1970. After only living in WA for 12 months both family's travelled from Perth to Geelong in 1971 crossing the Infamous Nullarbor Plain, hundreds of kilometers of the worse corrugations in the country at the time.
Gordon was responsible for my my outdoors nature, he taught me how hunt & shoot. He bought me my first .22 Bruno rifle, took my dad and I spot light shooting most Friday nights and Saturday shooting trips around Ballarat, Rokewood, Skipton, Colac, Peterborough/Port Campbell in Victoria.
Took me Crocodile and Buffalo shooting in the mid to late 1970's in the Northern Territory. (those were the farken days when we used to spot-light crocs at night, after shooting them, both my Gordon and I would would jump in to tail-rope the bastards, while dad another friend Ray would watch out for other crocs)!
Gordon was there for me when I returned from the Rhodesian Bush War in 1980, by providing me with the airfare to return to Australia, he saw my passing out parade in 1980 when i graduated from Kapooka after joining the Australian Army.
The man was more like an uncle to me and was my dads best mate, he owned 3 Nissan Patrols over his action packed life, he bought a G60 in the 1970's, (pile shit that was, i remember helping him on two occasions fixing the bloody gear-box.) He then bought a MQ patrol wagon and travelled around Australia in 1980 with his family, he also travelled to Cape York in 1981. That trip inspired me to do the Cape with my Army mates in 1983. Finally in 2003 he bought a second hand GQ wagon which he only had for a couple years.
Unfortunately, cancer struck the good man down, he was never right when his wife Sandra passed away last year, he effectively gave up on life, Sandra was his soul-mate, best-friend they were inseparable. Dad visited Gordon last Thursday in Ballarat base hospital, Gordon was released on the Saturday, dad spoke to Gordon on the Sunday where the two of them made arrangements to have coffee with one another on the Monday.
Unfortunately, that never happened, dad arrived at 11.00am Monday morning this week and was unable to get in, after ringing one of Gordon's daughters he was directed to a hidden key to gain access to the premises. Dad found Gordon collapsed on the hallway floor, after ringing 000 and been directed by the medics to give CPR while the ambulance was sent from Ballarat to the remote town of Dereel which is 20 minute drive, Gordon was pronounced dead when the medics arrived. He had died in his best mates arms!
Today, i fly from Coffs Harbour to Geelong to attend Gordons funeral on Monday! Whilst i write this thread, i am already teary eyed. I will miss you Gordon Quinton, thanks for all the great memories and advice you gave me through my life's journey. May you rest in peace!
PS, Farkkkk, we did some crazy things together old friend, you will be truly missed!

Paul, folks here enjoy the funny stories that you post from time to time, but it is clear to me on this occasion that your writing is a way of managing the sadness you refer to. As such I am sure it helped to write it, I can tell because it is a piece of writing from the heart. No-one could read it without feeling a little of what you felt as you wrote it. You were so lucky to have someone like Gordon in your life, & he was lucky to have someone like you who appreciated him. Best wishes.

Neighbour just told me something i don't wan tto hear. there were 2 blokes sniffing around my car last night, specifically the spare wheel. My cameras confirmed it. Alarm didn't go off, so they didn't make contact as it's very sensitive. Couldn't pick up their rego since the turds parked several houses down. Other neighbours cam would have got their car fully but they're away for weeks. The way they drove into the court and parked, headed towards my place is concerning as it was obvious which vehicle they were targeting. :furious:

It's not illegal for you to be employed as a contractor, In your situation it seems they should have been paying your super, if so the ato might go after them.
You need to get some advice on this to set your mind at ease.

If you are to be employed as a contractor you can pick your own hours and do what you feel needs to be done..Thats the advice I have received so far..Getting it looked at atm..will get a lawyer maybe but atm I will be talking to the workplace Obudsman....As the law is written if you are told what to do and have your hours decided,do much the same job day in day out you are a employee...
@Rusty......nah mate these guys are doing the right thing...salary,house fuel electricity super holiday pay public holidays...and as far as going to them(the old ones, don't want to be pointed at saying I was trying to extort money dude, rather the legal people do the work then there's no he said she said.)

I think this will be a similar situation as us contracting in the IT industry. I would be surprised if what they have done is illegal from their side. Just means you have tax responsibilities as if you were employed. So I'm guessing it was your responsibility to pay the Tax Office because you were using the ABN etc.
The Tax Office don't seem to care as much about the contractual/legal obligations between the two of you, just that they are getting the tax. It was to try and cut down on claims like income splitting. Having a work relationship as an employee but making claims like a business (e.g. Hiring wife as secretary for 40% of income).
I had the opposite situation where I finished as an employee and started company. Consulted back to them for a bit and had a fight over insurance. They then paid me as employee and deducted tax instead of paying invoice (because then they were covered on their insurance). I think what they did was illegal. Tax Office hinted it was but wouldn't say anything binding. On advice from Tax Office only option was to take them to court. Tax Office themselves did not care as he hadn't done anything against them. For a few thousand dollars it wasn't worth going to court.
So, summary, as liftlid says I don't think it is black and white. Get good advice before ruining any relationship with people. Sorry for your pain in any case.

It's an absolute bastard mate. The unknown ahead is eating everyone away and the morale at work is at rock bottom. Company is trying to divide and conquer, there is split little social opinionated groups on the union side, and people are stressing. And you don't need that going through your head considering the work we do (High voltage power lines).
People have mortgages, kids, commitments. Weeks ahead will be interesting. As much as I hate it, I'm creeping ever so closer to that depression thread this forum has going.

When you have camping areas with fees you can't camp in a 4x4 as they put parking areas away from camping or the designated sites are too small for a camper and car, the rangers already go through any dumped rubbish looking for evidence of who dumped it. More rangers also equals more closed tracks, keep Victoria free

No way in hell is it almost justified, I don't know where the gate is and don't know if there is much dirt road between tar and the gate, but image a dirt bike rider or someone on a quad going straight into that.
Those that are willing to ram gates down, are usually also able 2 pull em out with a winch, cut them with an oxy torch or a good quality battery grinder, potentially lethal spikes is not going to stop them from getting to the other side.
To me it looks like you could even drive around that gate in the bush with out 2 much trouble

Growing up we looked forward to Guy Fawkes night, we had a ball, Dad had a ball and so did our dog Spot. She used to pick up the roman candles and burn her whiskers off every year.
Then the PC mob came to power and all the fun was gone, miserable sad asses.
Our kids missed out on all that fun.
It cost a few letter boxes and a finger or two every year, plus the occasional cat. No wonder they stopped it.....

had the local indigenous boys tearing up the street on 4 trails bike since 2 am this morning........ cops were having fun trying to chase them down to no avail. Well 1 of the bikes carrying 2 boys had their comeuppance just over an hour ago. They got hit by a car as they were yet again cutting the corners and driving over peoples lawns, .......... poor woman driver didnt see them. They had no protective gear on and wearing a t-shirt over their heads with holes cut out for them to see out of.
I heard the bang and went out side to find 2 kids on the floor unconscious with a couple of ladies tending to them. The 3 others riders were hurling abuse at the women, until they saw me and another guy heading their way. They jumped back on their bikes and took off in different directions, leaving their 2 mates lying on the ground. The 2 boys regained consciousness, then took off down the road before the cops and ambulance turned, both of them pretty cut up and bloody. Last I saw was them jumping into another families car and heading off down the street....... couple of minutes later, all the services appear, and hour later after speaking to the cops, we hear over their radio that there had been another accident involving a trails bike and car............ may have been one of the others who took off, who know but call me a callous wanker if you want but I bloody hope it was. And no not because theyre indigenous but because this has been going on for the last three years but no ones been able to identify them or catch them and there's been a few close calls over the years, plus the fact that its a very family area with kids riding bikes etc etc

Mate, that isn't right.
Police report should be all that is needed. How many witnesses are there to a car theft? Rarely any. Otherwise the cops would charge him with making a false report and/or insurance fraud.
I'd get a better lawyer........
Should also name and shame the insurance company.

Wish I took a photo of my dog Indi last night, I had the sprinkler on the back lawn and while I was inside he had grabbed it and taken it under the veranda to play with it.
It must have been about half hour before I realized and went out the back to see the sprinkler going into the carport, onto the camper trailer, on the BBQ and all over the outside furniture even my work boots were full of water and he is looking up at me soaking wet all proud of his accomplishments. I was too angry at the time but recon it would have made a great photo.

I nearly got T'ed this arvo. The person was turning right around the round-about (coming from head on), dual lanes. I'm turning left and go as she is supposed to stick to the inside lane, then she's on the anchors and horn saying I cut her Off when's she's looking at my door..
Some people think they own the road..
Flipped her the bird, told her to learn the rules and drove Off.
Best I've seen though was 2 hire busses (Winnebago style) turn right from the left lane. Second one did wipe out the car who was going straight threw..

@ Winnie it was ok for 3 years so $40 over that period seems ok,
GLW worked at Kmart and with a lot of products mainly tents ppl buy for xmax use them ,
then rip them and ask for there money back, The ppl who returned this mower said it would not start hot.
It never failed to start till the other day. I'll go back to Briggs and Stratton now.
A lot of ppl try to rort the system at every opportunity,
To answer your question it was cheap because it was returned as not going. but that wasn't the case

No clutch with that. That was another $1200.
I've just had a gearbox change out. Make sure that included in the price: the spigot bearing, oil seal, rear engine oil seal, gearbox oil, and transfercase oil (if it is coming as one unit) Clutch lever seal, sealant between gearbox and bell housing,
Fly wheel machining (ask for a receipt so warranty on clutch is valid). Make sure the gear stick seal is in good condition and that the breathers are refitted. Also that you keep your old gearbox and there is no bond on your gearbox, (yes they tried to charge a $400 bond on my 2nd hand gearbox). And make sure the rubber gasket on the transmission tunnel has been fitted properly, so it seals out water.
