When it comes down to it, they are fire access tracks that are accessible to public. I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky that we are still allowed on them.

That's exactly how it is. Those tracks start life as smooth easy access fire tracks then they deteriorate until they get fixed up again. Just think, for every track that is smoothed back out, theres dozens that are more fun to drive than ever before

can you stll get those es maps books, with all the tracks on them
the evil twin
18th February 2016, 05:44 PM
Agree with Tas...
To be fair those tracks are Fire Trails (going by the posts) and the lives of the volly BFS guys and gals depend on being able to use them in their strikers.
Not to get at the fire but to be able to get out, fast, and usually a different way if it all goes pear shaped.
It's easy to forget that and nobody has the time to go dozing tracks after the fire has started and a crew is trapped.
We get a 50/50 chance over here when the trails get too gnarly for the BFS vehicles.
IE sometimes they doze them and leave it open, some times they doze them and close access.

Excitement quickly turns into disappointment when you see a house for sale.
The good part, close to the girls new school, in a nice area, bigger block than what we are on now, quiet and its in a court. It has two bricked garages joined together, the front one is 5.2m x 9.4m and the rear adjoining garage is 6.6m x 8.8m with its own shitter! Man cave porn the second garage is!
The disappointing part, Split level (not much of a biggie), timber ceilings, pine floorboards, yuck, polished cork tiles, how 80's, tiny bedrooms and the entire inside would need a big make over. Including the two garages. The entrance to the house has been covered in, from the stairs to the front door, so the windows on the master bedroom actually face into this entrance room. Real bizzare.
Ah well. Onto the next house. When we find one.

I remember reading on this forum about a mob for getting Dyno Tuning done in Thomastown in Vic (yes, I am in WA, but a mate lives in Vic)
anyway, I recommended them, after reading the posts (cannot for the life of me find the post now) my mate went to them
supplied and fitted a chip (as car was under powered),
new 3" exhaust,
new diff centres (as he said the old ones were screwed)
all up $6500.00
got ripped and rooted big time by this tosser
6 months later, now it seems,
chip not set right - over fueling and over heating - was never dyno tuned at the time of fitting
exhaust was 2nd hand and crap
diff centres were wrong ones
I have egg all over me because I recommended them

Yeah i cant understand their mentality. Not just with guns but with a lot of things.
I nearly ripped the tv off the wall earlier watching the Project. Some netballer or basketballer girl had a costume party to go do so she dressed up as some rapper like fiddy cent or who ever. She painted her face black, and she was absolutely punished by everyone, even her team mates calling her racist.
Even some indigenous elder came on and said it was racist.
What a load of farking bullshit! She just dressed up as someone. For a dress up party. No racial intent at all. i bet ya it would be ok if an African-American or an indigenous went "white face" for a dress up party.

The mechanic ringing me this morning about the missus car, (late model electronic 6 speed auto), transmission is buggered, replacement somewhere around $6000-6500! Nearest I've ever been to a heart attack I reckon. Especially when it's less than 5yrs old (only car we've ever bought brand new), and has less than 70k on the clock...
I will give the manufacturer their dues though, I rang their customer help line, they told me to bring it in, that given the age and kilometres there is a good chance they'll fix it under their goodwill system even though the warranty has expired. So in it goes tomorrow.
I reckon in the next day or so I'll have another post to make, hopefully to report that they have agreed to the fix!

It appears that more guns will prevent less deaths, eg if a teacher was armed they could stop the killer before
many more students were killed.
Just have to look at all their movies guns in everyone, I met a guy from the melbourne series of Homicide

He drove me to Holbrook where there was a car tyre place and I lay my bike on its side (as I had no centre stand) to get get the wheel out to get the puncture repaired.
The problems I went through on many a trip on my bike and had to some how sort it with very limited tools... Ahh those were the days.

Not as much as my son.
Finally have a clear answer on his ankle and it not the best news for a kid.
A tear to a ligament. Has been told to hang up the boots for the year.
It's a shame as he now has to give up a couple of opportunities that he has worked hard for. A change for a place in the representative squad for the EDFL and the Western Jetts.
I'm going to speak to his local footy clubs coach to see if he can still be part of the team and continue with training at a limited capacity, maybe training with whoever is carrying an injury that week. I think he needs to be there, he seems a little lost.
Speaking to the development coach at the Jetts tonight he gave my son the reassurance that he will be looked at for next year's squad, as long as we keep him up to date with his progress.
It's not the end of the world, but for someone who lives for sports, it's going to take a bit of getting used to.
I've told him to use the next 12 months as an advantage. Get your ankle 100%, work on your fitness and strength. Then next year you'll be fit, strong and have the hunger of 12 months of football that's been burning to get out.

What a bummer. He can still keep his fitness up while resting his ankle. Good idea staying involved with the club while recovering.

Found out today that my trusted mechanic is shutting shop due to not enough work to pay the bills, real shame as he is a top bloke to boot, all this due in part to the big slowdown in WA, I feel for him as he has worked the last 10 yrs to actually come out way behind what he started with and no job. The government and movers and shakers over here have squandered the huge profits they made during the heady mining boom days, I even have major competition closing down near me too from a chain of stores, good for me but bad for them and their employees, I also heard Alcoa just put off 700 people as well, not good.

When I did mine years ago, we had an open book test. I thought it was a pretty good idea. The instructor would read out the questions and then would pick out 5 people and explain why the answer was wrong or right. Even giving different scenario. It was more of a discussion.
The driving was with a pallet of bricks through a path, both forwards and in reverse. As long as you didn't hit anything or drop the pallet and you were confidant on the forklift you got a pass. Out of the 20 odd that were there 3 didn't pass. They looked scared and unsure while driving.
BA, chin up mate you'll get there.

A few years ago my boss wanted to expand our work and a house next door to work went up for sale. My boss offered the asking price but the owner said because there had been a lot of interest she had decided to auction it instead. On auction day there was less interest and he ended up buying it for 50k less than he offered previous. What she deserved for being greedy.

Alfie got split in two by an one of those snow dogs and was raced to the vets by a mate while I held alfies guts in as the dog had ripped into his stomach and genital area and his intestines were coming out..
If I had gone up to the house to hit the owner up for the money I would have jumped the fence and cut the dogs head off so my wife and mate went up and the little Chinese lady paid cash on the spot for all his vet bills.
And as far as shooting dogs go I had to shoot mums German Shepperd as it attacked and killed a sheep from the next property and the towns Policeman showed up handed me his revolver and told me to do what I know had to be done.... sickening.

2- People getting criticized when they are trying to help, sometimes it helps to be a bit more diplomatic with some comments, think before you type.

Real Estate Agent negotiated a Price for our House which we accepted.
Purchaser asked for Contract of Sale to be prepared which was done by our Agent and we cancelled an open Day this weekend as the Buyer had inspected the House twice for a total period of two hours.
The Mongrel just rang our Agent to say he wasn't going ahead as he has found another property.
Not angry that he is buying another property but all of his comments had been positive and he had lead us to believe that the Sale was going ahead.

This is something that really pisses me off, the government had the chance to buy Cubbie Station upstream that drawers a huge amount of water out of the Murray Darling system.
At the time they said there was no point as they had no water allocation and buying it would make no difference.
Since then they have given them back their water allocation, both sides of government are bloody useless when it comes to helping save the Murray Darling system.

Certainly do for ADF service.
Mine show length of service, decorations and awards, promotions, unit postings and duties.
The full records held by the ADF archives would run at 1,000's of pages per dude on average.
I can still get copies of medical and service records that are over 40 years when I need them.

Bit of info for ya...
When a decoration or campaign medal is issued there should be (in vast majority of cases) a Full Size Dress Medal, a Miniature Mess (or Evening) Medal and a Uniform Ribbon.
It is perfectly acceptable to get and wear replicas of originals as long as you are entitled to do so.
My originals are mounted but kept locked away and I wear replicas for parades or official functions.
Originals will have the name and service number of the recipient engraved on them on the side and stars etc on the obverse usually
Duplicates (an official replacement struck and issued to a lost medal) will have a 'D' engraved on them in addition to the Name and Number
Replicas will usually not match originals under close examination and can be purchased by pretty much anyone.

One of my good mates lives next door to this crazy old bugger in his 80's, served in ww2.
He was an engineer at one point(not sure if during or post war) has a shed full of oldskool engineering gear.
My mate gave him a book on tuning Japanese I4 engines and he used it to hot up his proton GTI(mitsubishi engine).
He made a fully custom cold air intake, stripped, blueprinted, port & polished the engine, has even stripped the spare, back seats, toolkit etc out of it to save weight.
He copped a massive fine recently for something like 127 in a 100, hahaha.
He is a mad old bastard, has some amazing stories from back in the day.

Why do you want to get a house by auction? And $959k! What tha! No house in Watsonia, or Bundoora is worth that. Unless its on a stupidly huge block.
A lot of Asains buying up in that are too, same as Mill Park. Because of the Uni and tafe colleges so close. And if the house number is 6, they will pay top dollar for it. There are some other numbers too they will pay more for but cant remember though. Some superstition thye have.

This too has been been mentioned, but I don't think it will happen. Mrs likes Stanley or Hobart.

Stanley area is nice but not much going on there. Some beautiful properties around Hobart but the prices are up there. All depends on work I guess really. Commuting for an hour and a half in a city is way different to doing in the country

There seems to be more auctions around here as well, still more private sales, but it's changing. The agents have asked us if we want to do private sale or go to auction. I'm already unsure which way to go.

It's a sad day when you can't even get out of your local area any more ...
Cops blocked off one of only two gateways out of our area near the cricket ground. Right around the corner from mine and BA's house... Shooting, drug bust or something ... And the other exit they blocked off questioning people. Line of about 25 cars waiting to get in and out...

Sounds like they would be better off getting to know the locals instead of sitting in a huge, forbidding central police station.

Well its too bad that no one pays my wife the kind of money she earns in town... if it was possible i would be cracking the whip big time to get out of the city.
It is a shame that in Australia we set up these big cities with all the work and places like bendigo or other satellite cities miss out..
Many European countries like Germany have it sorted... oh well dont think it will change anytime soon.
I dont know why we are headed down the path of so much violence in Melbourne and Sydney. ... crazy.. these meat heads need to be dropped down a mine shaft.
The north is full of so much crime its starting to get scary... only a matter of time before some innocent people get caught in the cross fire.

Hear what your saying BA, following the dollar instead of your heart is a tough decision.
But please consider where you will be in 5, 10, 15, 20 years, where will your family be. If you can visualize that then that's where you should be.
We could have made a lot more by living in the city, in income and capital gain on any property we might have had.
Our life has been pretty damn good living in a small coastal village, by no means perfect as family are all over 500klm, 1000klm, 3500klm and the other side of the world away.
It was our call and for us we are happy with it. Crime essentially doesn't exist here, it's out there but we have been lucky I guess.
Good luck with whatever you do.
