I was building a tandem trailer in the front yard years ago and the arc flash sent them off and I got stung 4 times on the side of the head, kicked off shingles, face and hair scabbed up like a bitumen burn and off work for 2 months. Day I saw the specialist for last appointment he told me they had just released a cream to take away the pain. They are a mean bugger for sure.

I only got done by one, high up on the right ring finger. Swelled up a bit, got tight, but all good now. Very minor. But side of the head x 4, no thanks!

I thought of this post while I was on my royal dunny Plassy. No joke!
Yes, yes, I did. Let me clarify.
For maybe several weeks now, when nature calls, sitting down on thee upstairs dunny... I've been hearing "buzzing". Occasionally see and hear, what I regarded as bees, through the flyscreen. As we have bees around our flowers in the garden, I thought nothing of it. Until I read your post...
Investigated further. Sat outside with a stubby or 6 and monitored, watched, like train or plane spotters. Well fark me...
There are w0g wasps coming in and out of a brick cavity! NOT too far out the window. Proceeded to sit and wait, with a bug spray, like a clay target shooter from the inside and pinged them down as they landed or took off... Realized after a while, I'm gonna need a BIGGER spray. Bunnings here we come.
Armed my self with a trap, and several sprays.
The Shit thing is, it's in a carn't of a spot. I cant get a ladder up there due to the sunlite verandah below and cannot reach properly out the window, to spray several liters of whatever i could get my hands on, down the cavities ive seen them coming in and out of. That "Defender" spray on stuff works as after applying, many bodies have hit the floor! The trap? Farkin' useless. They don't want a bar of it.
I'm hoping I've caught it early before any internal major nesting takes hold. I've been stung many times by bees and wasps back in europe when I was younger. But, I'm worried as my soon has anaphylactic alergies and don't know want to think of the worst case scenario.

Haha wog wasps, l like it.
Yes they love wall cavities with very discreet weep hole access. I'd be calling a man mate, especially if you're worried about your son. Stung like a bitch for a while but I'm not allergic so couldn't whinge or I'd have my man club membership revoked :D

I've had some limited success using jam mixed with Ant Rid in plastic soft drink bottle traps. My neighbour swears that leaving out a bit of uncooked pork doped with borax works a treat. Apparently the wasps take it back to the nest. I don't like that idea too much as native birds can swipe the bait. You would have to build an enclosure of some sort to only let wasps in and out.

Get one of those mosquito zappers, and turn it on right next to the hole, leaving it on day and night. It annoys the hell out of them on their exit and return and the humming draws them out of the nest all night. You will clear 99% of them out in 48 hrs, done it heaps of time. We also had a big nest between the brick and plaster board in a cupboard. I bought a couple of the pressure can wasp spray, drilled a 3mm hole above the nest and saturated the nest, sealed the holes up in the process with duct tape. Its a bit stinky for a couple of days, and if you drill the hole too big, as I did once the wasps try to get out even with the spray nozzle in place. If its outside, kero, metho and petrol with a dose of engine oil provides the right amount of heat and soakage to burn the paper nest out of the ground and get the larvae. Baygon powder works well, especially in red gum sleepers. Yeah, I hate the pricks.

The rain and hail was so heavy, I had to pull over on the West Gate Freeway, along with many other sensible drivers. Buggered if I could see more than two cars ahead, but a lot of drivers with extra sensory perception or who are at "At One With The Force", kept on driving. Some were chugging along at quite a speed.
Must be very trusting of their instincts or just stupid.

Yeah, got caught out like that way back in August coming home from the meet up at Licola. Hit the WestGate towing the van, bucketing down at least 25 mill covering the entire road, one could not see the lane markings, road works, lane changes from what I`m used to. What I found was the trucks barging their way through, blinding spray. " Please be getting out of the way, I`m looking for that funny bridge". Bloody Delivery drivers. Damn near got the wrong lane but got through unscathed.

It was almost whiteout while we were stopped. The windscreen wipers did sweet FA. I am at loss as to how there wasn't as pile up. With the hail on the road the lines disappeared. Mrs mudsane and I think all the cars on the side of the road provided a line of lights for the idiots to gauge their position.
But on saying that, we were parked almost nose to tail and I could barely see the second cars hazards. Wish we had of filmed it.

I spent half a morning trying to get a set of rear sway bar bushes for the vf and an exhaust hanger bracket for the GU. No one stocks the bushes they're now a special order from the supplier, even the hanger that is a universal fit.
The young lady behind the counter then tries to tell me to order from patrol a part, they're pretty good and only up the road in sunshine. My response "okay thanks"
Then they wander why nobody goes into a shop..

Bloody carparks yeah been there done that too mate. Probably the highest chance of a bingle in your day’s travels is in a carpark. Hope your or their insurance company don’t pull the “on private property” card like mine did (actually we were both with RACV and nothing ended up being covered). Not so much angry as disappointed. Have spent a lot of time and effort getting all things planned and set up for a trip in a few weeks from Brisbane across the Simpson via the French Line and return via the Madigan Line only to be stymied by the flooding of Eyre Creek. Both tracks will be closed until at least the beginning of July, and probably quite a bit later as water is still coming down.

Sent from my SM-G988B using TapatalkIt is a disgrace. Their contract states that they must collect any carcasses that are left in waterways, but I have seen countless photos of aerial culled deer left to rot in rivers and creeks.
I understand culls need to happen and the deer population is getting out of hand, but shooting them from a chopper and leaving them to rot is not the way to do it.

I carry these, if I need to grab some river water just chuck 1 tablet per litre in and it will kill most bacteria. It very slightly affects the taste but I think that's a small price to pay when in need of water.

Would the brought down deers be suitable for public consumption, say public school meals? Not aware if there are any sanitary reasons against consumption...Unfortunately here in Australia there are too many sensitive souls that don't believe the hunting of feral animals should happen. It's kept as hush as possible. Also, most schools don't serve meals for the whole school, most places you provide your kids with a packed lunch everyday.
If anything they would likely end up as dog meat

I have once seen an interesting sign in a roadside property in USA. It was open season for deer hunting and the person who lived there was offering to do the meat selection and preparation for you, for the animals you would bring to his house. He would separate the appropriate cuts, pack and freeze for you and would also prepare any amount you wish into deer burgers.
I thought it was pretty cool that over there they were hunting not only for control or sport, but also for stocking food.

Unfortunately that would be illegal in Australia. Against health regulations. The amount of permits, inspections from authorities and specialist equipment you would need would make this impractical.

Unfortunately for a free country we are very restricted. Even gel guns (toys) are restricted. They know most of the country is unarmed so threats to the government are neutered. No, not advocating a open slather approach a la USA but back to the system we had before jackboot johnny got things his way.
As to controlling feral pests and hunting for food I did that for years mainly goats, rabbits, foxes and cats . would love a go at deer but most are in nat parks and shot and left lying to rot.

Normaly I avoid getting wound up about things and so haven't looked in on this thread.
but Hah. I knew I wandered in for a reason. Call it providence.
NZ is about to introduce a firearm (and associated parts) register.
1) This failed before and was scrapped
2) Canada tried and failed (after spending millions of taxpayer dollars)
3) The police couldn't competently implement the previous legislation, now somehow they think they can do more?
4) The police failed to accurately maintain the previous B, C and E cat registers, affecting only a small percentage of license holders, maybe 10% , despite having forms signed in triplicate
(B, C, and E refers to pistol, collectable (including fully automatic) and "Military" style semi-automatic firearms, respectively) now they think they can handle one 90% bigger?
5) I can only speculate, but I have serious doubts that criminals will register their firearms before, or after, doing crime.
Just as well cars are registered, that's why we don't have off-the-charts incidence of ram raid and vehicle crime...oh fucken hang on, that's exactly what we have.
NZ used to be globally renowned for having the sanest firearms legislation.
For those unaware: the NZ govt copy-pasted the port arthur script, and then the very expensive, hugely ineffective gun-grab and then basically the legislation that followed.
What followed was taking firearms off people who have been vetted fit-and-proper (by an institution demonstrably neither fit, nor proper) while KNOWINGLY leaving firearms in the hands of criminal gangs. The (fairly predictable) result is that we've had about a 500% increase in firearms crime since.
The law abiding are being made to bear the costs of the criminals, and the incompetents. but I repeat myself.
So... That. That is what has made me angry today.

I will never fly with them again, or Qantas if I can help it. I booked and paid tix to Darwin a few years back with Qantas. Upon arrival and checking in I was informed that I am being loaded onto a Shitstar plane. WTF! I paid for a Qantas flight and I get a free bottle of water with them I said. Not with us you don't was the response. I wrote an official complaint to Qantas expressing my disgust. Yeah, well I have to fly to site early to resolve a bore issue the site maintenance team have pfaffed around with for 4 years, and must be there tomorrow, so checked flights and Virgin/Qantas are 3 times the direct flight cost today than Shitstar, so basically forced out of common sense to fly with them. I dont care about the catering on a 3 hrs flight, I can survive, however basically hate flying with them, the attendants have a level of arrogance beyond the norm i have found. I expect nothing so will be surprised if anything positive happens - just get me to Townsville tonight as my contracted ticket purchase states - then dont lose my luggage or expect me to travel 1500klm to get it.

Since when we RTDs(ready to drink) cheaper than anything else! Ended up buying a case of Canadian club and dry for $94, and the cheapest ginger beer was around $110 absolutely ridiculous!

Not much open in Warrnambool at 5.30am so I dropped into maccas for the first time in years and ordered a breakfast McShit burger. My god. It may as well have been made from papier-mâché I could not taste one thing in it. Probably would have been better for me too if it was. Shoulda gone for a servo sausage roll.

Went to that mob once when they were new and my kids were pre-school (youngest is now 49) on the way to the Maroochydore Drive-in theatre (remember them?). The kids didn't like it at all and neither did I. I have not been back since and never will be.

Not angry today, but annoyed.
Two weeks ago I spent about four hours at work shifting and reorganising steel exhaust tube, sizes varying from 1.5 inch up to six inch.
Upon finishing I noticed my left forearm was quite sore, by the afternoon I couldn’t lift a glass of water without being in severe pain. A day later my elbow swelled up considerably and the pain was intense .
Fast forward two weeks, pretty much still the same but the swelling has gone. Diagnosis is I have “tennis elbow “ which can take up to two years to completely heal apparently. Great! Trying to live life where it’s a struggle to even simply spray a deodorant can without being in pain is shit.
Apparently there’s not a lot that can be done so I am told but to keep the strength up in the hand with exercise and it will heal in its own time.

mark. i dont have tennis elbow. but i have a problem with joint inflammation due to an ongoing medical condition. i can give you some advice.
arnica. helps reduce the swelling well and alleviate the pain to some degree. better than deep heat which just relies on thinning the locale it is applied.
wear a compression bandage fitted sleeve thing, it will help with the problem ongoing, 100%
tumeric, get into adding that to your meals, it has well known benifits for joint problems.
i hope this helps mate. getting old sucks.

I'll get onto the tumeric and the Arnica. I've been popping my anti inflammatories that I use for my back like they're candy which help, but make me shit concrete as a drawback. lol. But they help a lot. I'll try your suggestions for sure. I've had it strapped up since too.
From what I have found this can take anywhere from months to a couple of years to completely heal too. Damn!!!!

I've recently discovered why people retire.
So they have more time to spend with their doctor.
I'm just at that stage of life where they're starting to cut bits out of me.
Not to worry, at least I made it to this stage. Small miracle.

I have suffered with the same thing, went on for a long time but got over it using a compression bandage as Rusty said. I got it from the chemist and goes on the forearm and adjustable with Velcro. I believe it restricts the muscle movement allowing them to heal.

Not Angry - More Frustrated
Almost 4 weeks now since a shoulder reconstruction, tore the Supraspinatus Tendon clear off the bone. I've had a crook shoulder for about 20 years and just put up with it. Modified how I did things including gym and swimming. NOT a good move. Started getting worse about six months ago and I just put up with it and naturally made it worse.
Ended up with the tendon retracting 3.4cm, a tear in the Infraspinatus and also Bursitis.
Had a steroid injection which worked for a few days but meant I couldn't have surgery for three months.
After finding out via a panic attack in the MRI machine that I am claustrophobic I finally had another MRI in the large tube. Due to my age and the severity of the injury the surgery had a 70% success rate. Happy to say it went well, excruciatingly painful for a few days and I didn't tolerate the drugs. Now it only hurts with sudden movement, turn or bump it. Even though we have top cover with Defence Health it still cost me about $4000 out of pocket.
I'm now in a shoulder brace day and night for six to eight weeks and unable to drive (unfortunately my wife doesn't drive either).
Fortnightly physio and three months before I can start minimal exercise and six months before any strength building exercise. Total time for full recovery between 12 and 18 months.
Most frustrating part is that I'm normally very active and this is has limited my ability to do just about anything from gardening, mowing and cooking. To top it off I'm right handed and it's my right shoulder.
Only decided to write this as I got my invite to the Pier 2 Pub Ocean Swim and it would have been my 20th swim which is a pretty significant event and comes with a medal. Now I'm still waiting just to get the go ahead to head to the rehab pool.

NASA satellite Aura detected the eruption using its microwave limb sounder. It measures ozone, water vapor and other atmospheric gases, and can penetrate obstacles such as ash clouds.[57] The underwater explosion also sent 146 million tons of water from the South Pacific Ocean into the stratosphere.[58] The amount of water vapor ejected was 10 per cent of the stratosphere's typical stock.[59] It was enough to temporarily warm the surface of Earth. It is estimated that an excess of water vapour should remain for 5–10 years.[57]

When we got home the next day she went to hospital for an infection and swelling, the nurse asked if it was a snake bite. The doctor thought so too. But being as she was suffering any other symptoms anti biotics were prescribed.
all good, but damn, it could have been so much worse!!

Deciding to give my Niece's boyfriend, who has started his own plumbing business, some work at my place. BIG mistake.
I asked him to come out and do some work in January as the wife is on holidays, so he can come out during the week. After this it will have to be weekends only as we both work. No response during this time. Took him 6 weeks to actually come out and look at what he needed to do, not a lot of work maybe 3 hours for him. Had him booked for Saturday week ago. Didn't show up. Says he's be here the following Saturday( Saturday just gone) first thing, No show. Texts me at 12.30 saying hes stuck another job he'll come tomorrow morning at 9am. No show. Texts me at 9.45am saying he's slept in and he's on his way. 12.30 comes around get another text saying he's on his way again.
My response to him in two words. Don't bother. His response to me, "ah mate I'm sorry, FYI I've already bought the parts needed for the job". Sux to be him. Its gonna be a bit testing at our next big family gathering. Lol.

Pretty disappointed with the mob that I dropped over $1500 in parts.
I did have an issue with the tie rod ends. The picture is of the note that was in the packaging. I put grease in as stated and black grease came out of the rubber boot. The grease that I was using was red. This tells me that the ends were already greased.
Their response.
They usually have some assembly grease in them and need a complete grease upon fitment.
So I went to Bursons and brought another one. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2024/03/4.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2024/03/5.jpg

I know the feeling. I had an immaculate record with over 20 years of drivers license (at the time) without a single occurrence. Then out of nothing, on a road I drive every day, I got a fine for doing 67 on a 60 zone. And the radar equipment had a 10% tolerance margin, so if it were 66, it would have been disconsidered due to being inside the error margin...

Yep I got one a few years back, about the same speed as well. I read the ticket and it actually said that the 10% variation was removed and the stated speed on the ticket is the actual speed minus 10%.
I couldn't complain as this street was somewhere I'd complained that they needed to change the speed from 60 down to 40 as it's busy and very tight. Little did I know, they actually had changed the speed limit.

Well it keeps on going.
The wife's outlander needs a new radiator, the worst part is that the hoses are going to be more than the radiator itself. No one has all three in stock, thought I'll try my luck with a Mitsubishi dealer. $270 and they will need to order them in as well. The radiator was only $130.
Then there's the low oil pressure on the troll. I can hear the engine coming good when the light goes out at around 1300rpm. Looks like it's going to need a fresh set of bearings and I still need to take in for the A/C and the trailing arm bushes to get my pre trip inspection..

I am wondering around the oil pump and it being worn on the basis when the pressure increases the engine comes good? I did have a subaru that did the same thing - sorry similar - and it was valve guide stems seals of all things . I would change the pressure transmitter first, look at oil condition - assuming you have not changed anything, the ambient temps where the behaviour starts. Unsure where the oil pump is and if you can get to it . For a test you could add an oil fortifier to make it thicker and see if the pressure increases and improves? Just cant put the bearings into the picture??

The last things I did was rocket cover gasket and new coolant. After that I started it up to get it up to temperature and burp the system and that's when it started.
I put new oil (20-50) and filter no change. I could take out the pick up and clean it out..

Pumps located on the side of the block intake.
Has new pressure switch and looks like it's working.
Cars going in on Thursday, might get them to diagnose it..

Haven't left a bit of rag inside the the rocker cover, or had a bit of sealant get into the engine. Since it only started after you had the cover off.

Thanks gents. You got me thinking.
I'm going back to what I had. The oil pressure switch that I took out had 2 sensors one for the dash oil light and one for an aftermarket gauge that I removed a while ago. Mechanic picked oil switch because there was a lot of oil residue and road grime around them mainly around the aftermarket one. I cleaned them up, refitted the teflon tape and went for a 1/2 drive all good. No oil leaking, no oil light and no noisy engine.
Now back to the beers and pool..

Bugger! Interesting choice of a fix, though. When the gearbox plug stripped out. The mechanic welded a socket on, which gave us a whole lot more chance of applying torque.

I set up the guillotine for him to use, explained to him the basics, start stop emergency stops and reset and watched him cut a few pieces.
Walked past a few minutes later to him standing at the back watching the backstop moving out on side only. I saw that and broke the safety curtain to stop the machine. By this stage it was at a 45 degree angle.

Spent 6 hrs swapping out a defective booster pump on my interchiller circuit, only to find the replacement is farked as well - two brand new pumps, magnetic drives instead of direct coupled - advise to steer clear of these Davies Craig units - bloody rubbish.
Now have to find a robust full duty cycle 12v positive displacement pump to fit into a pre-engineered cubby hole - not happy. A previous encounter with a 150LPM pump from them delivered 6LPM - yeah , pretty close.

This is in Vic.
So my 87 yo mother in law got a land tax bill.
Got me to thinking, so I looked into it.
Read the fine print & from what I can understand we may have to pay this blardy cluckin new dictator dan tax.
We've spent the past 20+ years putting together a nice house and land to retire to.
It's not a ton of land, it's not a fancy house and we don't draw any income from either the house or land.
If what I understand is correct, we could be up for a 5 figure land tax bill each cluckin year.
How the clark are people supposed to pay that cluckin type of a bill, EACH YEAR.
Anyone else looked into this?
If this is the case, we'll see thousands, tens of thousands of people having to sell because they can no longer afford to live in their homes.

Its the price we pay for the dickheads who put the poor money managers in charge of the bank. Our 15 acres in Gippsland costs 4k in rates for a cow paddock without any physical services and a dirt road, then we got hit with $1500 land tax because its not the principle residence. I suppose one day we will end up there, maybe, but in the meantime its value is skyrocketing well beyond the costs so its just what it is.

Looked into it more, it won't be a 5 figure bill, more likely 3, so we are very relieved.
What pisses me off, all the well to do with their mansions and bentleys, they won't pay a dime coz it'll be their primary place of residence. They can sell all their investments if they want.
It's people like the bloke who lives down the road from us, has a 1/4 acre block with chooks and runs some sheep on another block coz he can't afford much food so he slaughters his sheep and takes the chook eggs. He's going to get hit with this tax.
And the farmer up the road who is only just with head above water coz everything everywhere is screwed cost wise, he'll have to pay coz he's under-utilising his land coz he can't afford feed, vet bills etc to keep his farm adequately stocked.

Just discovered it is a corgi-sized dog which has been visiting the property over the last few months. Tonight, the security camera showed the little bastard hiding behind a corner while I move the spotlight around searching for whatever is upsetting the livestock and dogs, yet again. Its very smart as it avoids the cage traps I have been setting. Baiting is not an option either.
