Going to start my Patrol today in -15C cold and discovering that my $1500 Webasto heater system that I just had installed wouldn't start up and heat the block like it's supposed to. As a result, the truck wouldn't start either since the block was too cold.

Oh its worse, for the front spotlights instead of just running longer cable, how about we just run the cable around a bolt, then another end of cable around the same bolt and use eletric tape to hold it in place.
As well as the 2nd battery holder is only being held in by cable ties. This entire thing feels like a fire hazard at the moment.

Take your time and start again slowly sorting all these poor electrical jobs.
for the battery tray can I suggest you use penny washers [mudguard] and nyloc nuts,
even use nyloc nuts on the battery tiedowns. Keep reporting all the failures and fixes
others may be in the same boat.

Got a call on the way to work from my mechanics son - dad passed away last night. Trying to cancel and reschedule jobs, plan next week etc. whilst trying to come to terms with the loss of someone who had become more than an employee, but also a good mate. Dammit!

Install my dual battery system and whilst wiring everything up, managed to short out the spanner and blow the 100amp battery fuse link!! Got no power at all to start the car, no dash lights or anything.
Is this something a repco would stock or do I have to go to Nissan?
Also any ideas how to get the blue fuse out in the middle ? It won't budge and appears to be bolted in??

Thanks Winnie - turns out supercheap stock them as well for $7, so I'll just swing by in the morning. My first google search had a link with a guy saying the part cost him $65 -- hence my wondering if that was just a Mr Nissan rip off.

Not sure exactly on the Patrols how to get to them, but I blow one on my old surf and took awhile to work it out.
The new one should have holes at the end of the blades. From memory they are two different sized holes I think.

I does perform well, no question. It also uses 16L/100 as opposed to the 12-13 they said. I don't mind putting fuel in, if there's a return, but sinking fuel in, being short changed on output and then lied to about it just pisses me off. No doubt when I drive it again next week I'll settle down again (it's in the panel shop getting my bonnet painted, which probably isn't helping my mindset haha). All through the sales pitch they tell you they don't achieve power by winding up the fuel screw, they set there pumps internally to achieve desired outputs, blah blah blah. Now that they have admitted to suppling an under spec pump they recommend simply adding more fuel to achieve the desired outcomes. Hipocrites!!
Might give them a call tomorrow and ask for another pump as per my order, $50 to mail this pump back and $500 towards paying someone to swap the pumps over.

So i changed the thermostat and rad cap. Flushed the entire system and put new coolant in. In this heat too, tis not good for working on hot motors.

Its 200% better than 5 years ago. When I was a rep my area was the west, I used to finish my day by no later than 3 if I wanted to get home in Mill Park by 5. Way different now. It doesn't bank up until just after the Dalton Rd exit G'borough bound now. Before it was banking up before Edgars rd. Just went down the street and an Asian bloke had his van parked on the side of the road at this tourist lookout spot but he's handbrake failed and he rolled back into a tree that's 1m down the embankment and another 200m drop after that.
Tried to help the bloke out and was going to winch him up but the car was just resting on the tree with a wheel high up in the air.
Really needed a second car to brace the car from rolling as someone else winched and road traffic management on a day like today as you would need to winch from the Middle of the road.
I told him he needs to call police and organise help but he refused to and was calling his friend to come help. I strongly said do not try and pull yourself out and he said no no just get friend to look first.
This might be the third car this year to roll down that hill by the looks of it!
Felt bad not being able to help but I would guarantee roll his car with only one winch.
Amazing from the million cars no one bothered to stop either.

Amazing from the million cars no one bothered to stop either.
I was driving up the road today heading for Berry and I passed a small bus (20 seater approx) with a flat tyre and an old bloke trying to change it. So I did the right thing and stopped to give him a hand. He said he'd rung a tyre mob and they were coming, so we got talking. Turns out he owns a 99 2.8 Patrol that he'd put a 4.2 in, kept the 2.8 intercooler and did a few other mods, even got the tacho working by himself. Anyway I left him there to wait for the tyre truck and continued on. About an hour later I was coming home again and the tyre truck was there swapping it for him. Gave him a toot and a wave on the way past.
Doesn'thurt to stop and see if people need a hand.

I've being doing the ring road run for longer than i care to remember and yes mudski its heaps better. It got to a point that to get to reservoir from the west I would take the calder then bell street and pass the drive inns to get to the area of Edwards lake, both ways.
Not anymore, both ways going home in the morning I still manage between 90-100 km/h and have a breeze run in leaving home about 6 pm watching all the city bound traffic slowly moving.

Amazing from the million cars no one bothered to stop either.
Had the same thing happen the other week when the crappadore broke down. Had both kids, very warm day and no drinking water for them :(
Out of all the cars that went past the only one that did stop and ask if I needed assistance was a rough looking guy with tatts.
As they say never judge a book by the cover :)

Paperwork, paperwork has made me angry. Particularly government tenders. They expect 100's of pages of information. You submit, they reply with about 100 words.
So, pointless amounts of paperwork that could actually be summed up to about 2 pages.
For example: to tender on a government job you need to prove (by way of documentation) you are environmentally sustainable and have a 'green stamp'. Fair enough, but requesting it every time is completely un-environmentally friendly.
A recent study (academic) showed that the government in the UK save 900 million Euro in 12 months by simplifying their paperwork (Forms etc). Savings came from reprints, reworkingsof incorrectly worded forms, and time spent explaining their dribble to the public (Dwyer 2015).
End rant...now back to my tenders.

I know what you mean, the last big government tender we responded to ended up being a 180 page response and we had to supply 3 printed and bound copies.
When we finished our response we estimated it had cost us in excess of $20,000 in labour, samples and research.
Was all worth it in the end as we won and was worth $8mil over 3 years.

The reason for that timing is we Gov't dudes all have Xmas off and a reduced activity period with our Families and go fishing and camping and wheeling and generally kick back.
Then, when we go back to work the Tenders are all there in the Tender Box waiting for evaluation and we haven't wasted time and tax payer dollars sitting around waiting for them to come in.
See, we do it for you as a more efficient Gov't is a better Gov't and it saves you money as well.
Our next big batch is due for release week before Easter and closing 26th April

Hell no...
After Morning smoko finishes to start of Lunch is a hectic 20 minutes and I'm as flat out as a Lizard drinking.
Gotta clean coffee cup (Jeez I miss the days of having a Tea Lady),
Log on and check emails for mates wanting a chat,
Block out Calendar for the arvo so noone schedules any meetings,
Set the 'out of office' wizard on Outlook so it bounces all work emails,
Divert phone to msg bank,
Think of excuse to piss off early

NEED HELP
I need to know the worst song ever recorded.
I have a slight problem with a bogan neighbor who plays music every day very loud(being nice here) to day it started at about 10.30 and is still going 6.30 and won`t stop before 8.oo .
Pity the poor bugger doesn`t know that I have access to some top end band amps and associated equipment(stuff that will shake your house to pieces physically)
So the plan is to set this gear up and play the worst song or some nice classical stuff (which I have plenty off) on repeat and go out for the day.
I`m not talking 50 or 100 watt`s we`re looking a 1000 plus.
So if any one`s looking for some clean fill there may be some comming up.

I think anything on repeat would work, why not get into the Christmas spirit and play Bing Crosbie 'I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas'. Make sure to setup a camera to record the reaction.

G`day All.
Song has been chosen.
Greatest Beatles song ever produced, it`s off their White Album. It`s title is Number Nine.
From memory it runs for eleven minutes(which means the repeat mechanism`s not going to get over worked), there is no instruments played and only two words (repeated, over and over again) in the entire eleven minutes. You guessed it the words are NUMBER NINE NUMBER NINE NUMBER NINE.
I feel that today is going to be great.
Looks like I might have one problem being solved, so shortly off to coffee club to solve the rest.

Just realised how bad the leak in the vacuum hose is - with some bad timing. Some dumb biatch pulls into the main drag and gives me a good chance to test my brakes. So down went the foot, and man it was like standing on a stone. So a strong jerk on the wheel and I missed her with about as much clearance as my ass on my seat. Heard a very loud screach and it turns out I also still have that out of alignment front left wheel bearing. >:(
