Ventured north for a quick drive up to Mt. Disappointment, as I haven't been there for a number of years.
As I was on my own with my 8yo son, I stuck to the main tracks & easy trails. Being wet after weekends rains, even the easy main steep trails had steering wheel gripping moments.
Spent a few hours exploring, and the name of the place unfortunately seems fitting. Disappointing.
It's difficult to find a sign, a name post, a feature that hasn't been absolutely gutted by bullet holes. Fence posts/barrier chains driven over or cut down.
Andersons garden campground didn't have a fire pit without left over rubbish, boots, beer bottles, tampons, portable electric heaters... You name it.
Such a shame...
I filled up the spare wheel bag with as much as I could.
I hate saying it, but I'm growing sympathy with authorities closing places down with such things going on.

Yep, I don't know what can be done about them. I can't remember what campsite it is, but on the Madigan line there's a marker marking the campsite and it's completely defaced. This is in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

I read a report last year I think it was, that some DHs cut down one of Len Beadell's track markers and took it, probably used it for firewood.

I think it comes down to parenting, kids aren't taught to respect things or people, which isn't surprising as their parents don't respect themselves.

The way our government look after their own.

My 19 yo has got himself an apartment and has taken on the responsibility of being an adult.

Being his first place he needs anything and we are there to help him get set up. With rent, car repayments and now bills it's going to be a bit of a stretch on a 1st year apprenticeship wage.

So he gets onto Centrelink and applies for youth allow, living away from home. That was the only one that he falls into. Apparently you need to be receiving some sort of Centrelink payment to apply for rental assistance. So he submits and waits. Gets a notification he's been knocked back on the youth allowance, but not because anything that he's done, it's us as hard working parents trying to provide my son isn't eligible for anything as we earn too much.

The threshold starts at $55,600.00 combined and then its on a sliding scale.

The thing that gets me is that he is a dependent until he turns 22 regardless of where he is living.

The only think he can do is to apply for a independent youth allowance, but that's only after he had lived away from home and working full-time for at least 18 months, he's 6 months in his apprenticeship.

I moved out when I was about that age too mate, it was extremely tough to make ends meat on the $350-$400 I was earning every week. The only way to seek help off the government is to lie unfortunately, your son would have to say he's been couch surfing for the time needed and that he is estranged from you guys.

The system is absolutely crap, and everything is at their pace the applications take so long. It just doesn't work in the real world. Good luck with it all mate

My wife lily complained a few weeks ago about her foot and being diabetic
I was concerned as her brother had a leg amputated because of this.
I took her straight to hospital where they sent her to icu for a week.
its now been over 2months and its still healing be it very slowly.
Where lily is my carer the shoe is on the other foot now, no pun intended
They say it will take another 8 weeks before its fully healed,
lilys diabeties is under controll and needs a moon boot until its healed completely.
Better than losing a foot or worse,

Came across a bloke, stretching his new winch rope today in a park, during our bike ride. Said gday and had a chat with him. Flat ground, 1 click on his hand-brake and this thing was still struggling. Slight presence of plasticky burning smell too. He says his "mate" helped him install it.
I had a quick look and couldn't believe it. The main Negative cable was not there. The burning smell was the tiny ground cable coming out of the control box which was hooked up to the winch Negative. That was completing the circuit and literally melting!
As i was tracing the cables, I couldn't work out where the big positive cable wemt as it wasnt on the main battery... I assumed there must be a second battery somewhere. Probably hooked up there .Where's the second battery? Well, there isnt one he replies. So where the hell is the positive going...
After some more tracing, again I couldnt believe it. The big positive out of the control box went straight to the back of the alternator.
He rings his "mate" there and then. His "mates'" theory is the winch is bolted to the bulbar/chassis so its technically grounded, why bother with a cable. And the back of the alternator is obviously the best source of juice. :1087:

I hastily said farewell when the bloke sad "But he's helped me wire up others things on the car really well....."

Here I was toying with a possible diesel heater of some kind for the future in the oztent maybe for winter VHC trips... But thought I'd give this a whirl for a laugh.
And mudnut was right, this thing pulls a hefty amount of juice, so i don't really see a use for it. And the way the wiring was done and the overall feel of the unit doesn't call for much trust left alone without an extinguisher close-by handy....

Safety first though, only use with a good carbon monoxide alarm with either the Chinese or German product.

I haven't heard that one before but will do some research. I was in a Facebook group all about these cheap Chinese diesel heaters and the consensus was the are safe, but if two gaskets fail then they will pump diesel exhaust into the cabin, a carbon monoxide alarm will wake you before it becomes a serious problem.
The alarm was $50 from Bunnings and had a 10 year lithium battery.

Yeah diesel produce a different gas. Hence you need the correct tester when looking for head gasket cracks. The petrol types are looking for carbon monoxide to change colour while the diesel doesn't produce this. You could potentially still die from diesel exhaust fumes but you would be quite ill before doing so. Where as petrol you just fall asleep and your done.

Diesel still does produce a small amount of carbon monoxide but not even close to the levels of a petrol. So a carbon monoxide alarm would still work. So having both CO and CO2 alarms is very safe.

People. People have made me angry today. I am involved in a troubled charity that is running out of cash. I made an announcement to the members in March and I am hated for it. I had to cut paid staff hours back. Apparently I should not cut their hours. Not sure how people think we will pay them. Honestly, I am pretty destroyed by their stupidity. I have been bailed up and abused so much in the last couple of months that it has worn me down. My anger and disappointment is growing.

Unfortunate severe weather down here with power outages has seen store/warehouse shelves cleared of any and all genies within 72hrs.

My suspicious nature is trying to put together why a close neighbour seeking advice whom is on Faceache has been offered to purchase a specific 3.0kva model after I’ve just been informed in person earlier today by a work colleague that their sons & daughters first one clapped out quickly and the other wouldn’t kick straight out of the box.

I was told years ago that in Patrols the castor alignment is critical. If you get it wrong the front end will shake (think of a shopping trolley with a dodgey front wheel). He also said that some alignment shops do it better than others, depending on the equipment they use and their expertise. He said if all else fails take it to a truck / heavy vehicle alignment shop.

sucks doesn't it. Ever since covid started our work is having record month after month, then our boss decides to remove one of our warehouse guys, leaving me with one, to go work at their car wash which they also own. So now i have to answer phones, serve dumb shits at the counter, pack orders and put stock away. Quite difficult when my back is farked and I can barley lift myself up off the floor when I bend over. Then the bosses wonder why I dont get everything done and I'm in the shits at work, even though I'm the first here every morning at 7am, don't get any breaks during the day, if I get to eat lunch, its on the run, and reheated multiple times, and leave at 5pm. #kindastressedandoverityathink?

Had the long range tanks in my GU CRD Patrol repaired after smashing them both on some rocks. The workshop had flushed them with water prior to welding and then tested them for leaks with water prior to refitting, I’ve done a couple of hundred kms since I got it back and yesterday on the way home the water in fuel warning light came on.

I drained the filter water out and then disconnected and pumped the primer, the stuff that came out was almost like milk! They obviously haven’t flushed the tanks well enough!

Hoping the factory filter did its job prior to any fuel pump/injector issues, as I had no other issues apart from the warning light coming on. I gave them a call this morning and they sent a tow truck over to get it back to them. Talk about steam coming out my ears when I saw the fuel.

Bit late now, but may save me in the future, but I’ve got a fuel manager pre-filter with water alarm and optional primer on the way.
The shot glass in the pic shows what I drained from the filter trap, looks like nearly pure water. The plastic jug is what’s coming out when I pump the primer!

Yep, I wouldn’t have thought draining and cleaning a tank prior to re-installing it would be a hard task. Pretty disappointed and now worried about any further damage to the injection system.

Yep, I wouldn’t have thought draining and cleaning a tank prior to re-installing it would be a hard task. Pretty disappointed and now worried about any further damage to the injection system.

The concern with CRD is that the fuel rail pressure / fuel pump can see high pressure >160MPa (23000-25000psi) @ full load. As you cannot compress water, this condition can strip minute particles of metal off the pump plungers (damage) and stuff injectors.

You can take a sample of the contaminated fuel (store some anyway for latter reference) and place it in a small glass tube (say 10mm dia x 30mm depth) and shine a UV pen light light up thru the water column from underneath and if metal particles are present you will see them as bright glitter. Hopefully you caught it early.

I had CRD fuel pump failure couple of years ago and as a precautionary measure installed a WaterWatch pre filter (supplied by Responsive Engineering -Cooma Diesel). Something to consider as well. Give Responsive Engineering/Cooma Diesel 02 62800178 a call _ just more info / knowledge for you to deal with these cowboys.

https://www.waterindiesel.com.au/

Insist on a injector return leakage test be performed and a fuel system check by a diesel injector SME workshop. The owe U that at least.

stevemc181
21st July 2021, 09:56 PM
The tanks were repaired about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and it’s only done around 220km or so since then with no issues. The day before the warning light came on, I’d pumped about 10 or 15 litres from the Aux to the main to ensure the transfer pump was working, so I am suspecting the aux tank was the culprit. Once the warning light came on it was a couple of kms to home, no misfiring or problems at all. So hopefully no further problems.

I’ll be having a chat to them tomorrow about my concerns for the longevity of the injection components. I’ve already pulled the trigger on the Fuel manager system c/w alarm. I looked at the water watch system but preferred to go with a unit that filters as well.
I’ve got no hope of mounting the fuel manager where you have yours, as the later CRD’s with rear air have different routing of the air con line. I’ll need to run it from the passenger side, which isn’t ideal.

And just looking at the type of majority at the protest. You can tell they don't work, and are a bit "sideways" in the society. So it's not as if they're protesting because they can't work due to lockdown.
Look at the numbers at the protest. If they chose to protest with a care factor of "f**k all" , then they definitely won't mask up, isolate, sign in, and generally respect anything any other given day. And that number is out there roaming the society, and that number and type is exactly why the world will never get out of this shit.
Maybe , just maybe , humanity deserves to be wiped out.

Oh Dear Ross, have some compassion for the misguided. They obviously have mustered what intelligence they have remaining, both individually and collectively, to voice what they believe is true. Society should be congratulating them for proactively moving down the path of Darwins Theory of Evolution, as the strongest will survive and conquer and the weakest die. We can only hope the virus was alive and strong in both congregations in NSW and Vic and takes out the majority of them - small price for society to pay I reckon. I like you Ross.

My feeling is that those who protest see these restrictions as a personal attack on their individual liberty. In protesting they are really demonstrating they are only thinking about themselves. It's really narrow-minded and self centred behaviour thinly veiled as a show of support for the greater population.
[emoji2357]

Excellent quote from Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton in the media today in response to those anti-lockdown protests in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

"I love freedom. Who doesn't love freedom? I want freedom from being amongst the over 4 million official (and likely 10 million actual) COVID deaths globally. And freedom from being amongst the over 13 million current active cases. Or millions of current Long COVID cases.

Long COVID doesn't make you free - debilitating fatigue, ongoing shortness of breath, neurological and psychiatric symptoms for weeks to months. We've avoided a huge potential burden of illness in Australia but the 30,000 cases we've had still represents so much suffering.

When we prevent illness, the argument seems to go that there isn't really an issue, so why the restrictions? But this pandemic is far, far from over. New variants could still be catastrophic for much of the world - Australia included. They are hugely challenging to manage.

That's not a reason a 'give up'. Letting infections potentially overwhelm our health system will cause illness and death at an awful scale. It also impacts civil liberties and it's hugely damaging to the economy to have widespread transmission.

We can all argue the merits or otherwise of various approaches to managing transmission, but let's not pretend that 'marching for freedom' will actually deliver the precious freedom that we all need and desire."

I'm very much personal choice in general. Also quite against forced lockdown as I believe that this never going to end in one form or another.

Be responsible for your own health and safety first and foremost. If you are blase' about it, to bad so sad that's your problem
If you want to lockdown, go for it.
If you want to vaccinate, go for it
If you want the government tracking app, get it.
If you want to continue living your normal life, go for it.

I was against the forced lockdowns when we Vics were exposed to our big lockdown last year. Every other stated was laughing at us. Now seeing what Sydney are going through, and then us only to be put back into a forced lockdown once again, I do believe what they are doing is worth it and working. Sydney people are where we were last year.

I totally get it trying to see it from the other side where your state has barley been affected by Covid, you just would not understand. the experiences are totally different. My next door neighbor runs the triage as St.Vincents Hospital here in Melbourne, last year when we were seeing 500+ cases a day they had three floors with god knows how many beds per floor, dedicated just for people nearing the edge of dying from Covid. She worked endlessly day in day out just to keep things going.

Then you get the total farkwit living on the other side, who's 40 something, still living with his elderly parents trying to tell us that this doesn't exist and its all fake! I've also had one customer try to tell me that the vaccine is altering my DNA and another tell me that I now have a tracking device implanted in my shoulder from the "jab".

There is a very good reason for enforced lockdown,to stop overloading the hospitals!
The NSW hospitals would be struggling to cope atm, they only have so many ICU beds and without lockdown they will have to start making hard decisions on who they let die. I know the head of the covid response at RPA and watched him crying while describing the horrible decisions they have to make.
ANYONE AGAINST LOCKDOWN SHOULD GO HELP THE DOCTORS DECIDE WHO DIES!

Sick of vendors advertising parts for sale, then once you have paid for them, and have been waiting until the advised delivery date, find out they are in fact not in stock, still on the way, or have been ordered from overseas and may be here within 15 working days. Total deception, and as is currently fashionable, blame it on Covid. Yes, I appreciate there are international supply issues with the on-going pandemic, however just be honest so the buyer knows where they stand. After making over a dozen calls i finally tracked the parts down in WA and based on previous experiences with TOLL, they will be here tomorrow, airfreight. End of rant, good night.

A little disappointed with Sparesbox and the courier company. Spares didn't make any attempt to cover what it is and the courier left it right in front of the door in full view, where Australia Post left me a "you have a parcel" slip for a $200 pair of boot that I brought that are probably in one of those white post envelopes.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/120.jpg

I see a shiny object fly up in the air and then to the side up ahead. Yes , it was a solar panel at 80kmh plus the decent wind gusts we've been having here ...
The metro ring road suddenly comes to a grinding halt, as a car in front of me quickly swerves to the left in panic. Pull over to see if all is well.
All is well fortunately. But the primary reason is just about unbelievable.
A solar panel that was silliconed onto the roof rack flew off the car and hit 2 other vehicles ...
Yes , I repeat , silliconed onto the roof. No spelling error there folks . Silliconed. 1.5m x 1m panel siliconed onto the roof. Not even a roof rack. Just a plain flat roof... The intelligence level here is at question.

There is no way I would ever properly prepare the surface of my roof and my solar panel and then silicone it on with a full thick bead all the way around. Why? Because it would be near on impossible to remove it in the future 🤪🤪🤪

I have to agree with this. Like a lot of caravaners I have my solar panel supports glued on with Sikaflex. I’ve never heard of anyone screwing them on through the roof of the van.
Took me a weekend to remove the supporting brackets of 1 panel to go to a bigger size. Had to cut them off with piano wire and spent hours with a caramel wheel to get the stuff off.

Straight from the manufacturers website. What would be interesting is if the correct grade of sikaflex was used (or even if it was Sikaflex 252) and it was installed to the manufacturer's guidelines and instructions. I have used Sikaflex grades under some wicked applications, but to be honest, am a bit gun-shy on the solar panel stuck to roof config., but the manufacturer and others say its fine. My panels are bolted into a frame and then bolted to the roofrack. 50,000klm and still there!

I hear ya mate. I know they use it on caravans, motor homes etc... And for sure they use very specific rigid stuff and methods, very low profile panels for aerodynamic etc. But personally, I don't care what type of goo is used, I would not trust it. Thats just me. A little tear in the glue somewhere and wind under speed gets under it and off she goes. No bloody way, I'd ever do that. Good ol' nuts 'n bolts all day long.

Just to clarify the incident I mentioned above was a home made job at best... It all happened quick, but to me it looked like they took 1 half of those fold out panels and just stuck it on top of their patrol.
I reckon the cable it was attached to anchored it down somewhat when it took off. Someone could've been wearing it through their windscreen for sure.

With any luck the insurance gives him the finger because of it and he gets to bear the full cost of damage to the other cars.

They should be lifted off the surface if for no other reason than the cells become less efficient as they get hot. Having them elevated allows air to flow under the panel which provides some cooling.

Air flow under the panel will make bugger all difference to its efficiency. This is why flexible solar panels are glued to boat and car roofs too. But that does not make me angry… trying to removie stuff that has been stuck on with even humble dowsil silastic 732 really annoys me

I've had nothing but good experiences with Sparesbox. They were also the cheapest when I recently bought my slotted rotors.

A few years ago I ordered different sizes of those black nylon P clips and they didn't turn up as expected. Sparesbox refunded me no question. Couple of weeks later they finally turn up so I contacted them and requested a Paypal invoice and they replied saying nothing to pay because the original deal hadn't gone to plan.

It is disappointing that a small number are not heeding the instructions, but you get that in a Democracy. If you want compliance, bring in marshal law, then see how that compares to the inconveniences we are living through. I feel for those who have had their life's efforts go down the drain. this is a long term proposition and going to be here for a while yet. I am lucky, in fact in some regards happy to be locked down instead of travelling back and forth between Melb and Townsville on a plane every 2 weeks, locked up in a recirculated air environment, HEPA filters or not. My job is secure for the next 3-4 yrs, I can essentially work from home base, and that will do me out i reckon. I dont get wound up about the woes of the world because i simply know what I can and cant control. This is not a flippant post by any means. I think a different perspective needs to be adopted that is adapting to a longer term set of restriction, otherwise you are going to spiral down the 'S' bend and its only dark and messy down there. I hope this helps in some way. Try and find a positive spin, even if small.

Most property managers are scum to renters. It's the only thing they're good at.
Years later with a cheap investment property, most property managers are scum to the landlord. It's the only thing they're good at.
In short, most property managers are scum.

If you know the landlord's number give them a call. In my experience, barely any tenant complaints actually get forwarded on by the property manager. They aren't managers, they are commission suckers and nothing else. As a result the landlord then has disgruntled tenants on their hands who go on to give no shits about the property. It's a lose/lose situation thanks to lazy professional commission suckers sitting between the two parties.

Not making boost pressure. Struggles to get to 20psi, where it would easily go to 30psi. Changed out all boost hoses, checked the boost gauge just incase the sender unit is faulty, all good there. I removed the boost controller and pulled it apart and the tiny ball in it looks a bit "how's your father", and a not so round spring fell out, so I'm hoping its just this. Picking up a new controller tomorrow so hoping this is it.

Why senseless?

Cause the last step of the hour long process after uploading the documents, agreeing to the privacy statement, accepting the 99 year prison term if I lied in any of it is... wait for it... attending a service centre in person with a photo ID...REALLY?... FFS!!!!!!!

Why have an online application process in the first place you dopey shitheads!!!
Probably so the 75% of Oz locked down can't get any support 'cause they can't go to the Service Centre.

Fair dinkum, someone should find the moronic turd who came up with the whole process and parachute the piece of shit into Kabul with "Allah was lesbian and Mohammad eats Pork Roasts on Sundays" tattooed on his forehead, either that or make the pollies fill out an online form to get their friggin' pay... that would get it sorted I bet.

Bloody stuck here while the young bloke is moving into a new rental. He has no hot water and the laundry tap is pissing water everywhere when the washing machine is used. The real estate agents are being arseholes about it.

Day 11 and finally the hot water is going. Glad the agents pulled their finger out. FFS.

A couple of years ago I mentioned that two friends of ours both went through breast cancer. Thank god they have both gotten through. One of them is a twin and her and her sister have been friends with my wife since primary school, we see them as family. We just found out the other day that the sister is now going through the same thing. That bloody twin thing. Hopefully the twin thing gives her the same outcome as her sister..

The workmanship of companies paid to complete a job properly.

I was discussing with a group on Facebook today about my roof rack. Sometime mentioned I should check if it had been riveted on or if it had been nutserted. I had a look this Arvo, sure enough it was riveted on, needless to say I find that pretty disappointing, I've had holes drilled in my roof and that wasn't disclosed when I bought the rack. There is no way of removing it if I need to either now.

Upon closer inspection, the plastic strip that hides the mount hasn't been fixed on properly, the silicone has failed to bond and the strip has started lifting, just shoddy workmanship, so now I have to waste time chasing up warranty when the job just should have been done right in the first place.

I'm still chasing the dealer about the faults with my ironman bullbar I had installed through them, and tonight when having a look over something I noticed in the install manual mention of daytime running lights. Upon further inspection I notice the installers couldn't be bothered to connect that wire, so have just cut it short. I guess of I hadn't read the manual I would never have known, but I did and now I know. I checked and the indicators on the bar are compatible with the DRLs, the installers were just too lazy.

I had a look under one of the panels on the bar and low and behold there is a torch from them still mounted by the magnet... All credit to the magnet but clearly after the dodgy cuts, the forgotten to connect plugs and now this light problem I am really pissed off about the whole affair.

Bullbar was installed on 2nd August, I still don't have a resolution for the problem.

Lockdown is making all this even harder as I can't just go down there in person and demand it be addressed.

Time for a beer...

I would be VERY suspicious of any rack that is riveted (or nutserted) onto the roof - unless all those fixings went into the supporting structure of the roof and not just into the jam tin thin roof material. There is just too little support for sideways forces and the pressures placed on them by off-road use. Rack loading needs to be very carefully considered, I think.

So I went in to the tradesman roof racks shop in Bayswater this Arvo.

Regarding the rivets I asked him, and he assured me the mounts are drilled into the roof, in locations where the side panels overlap the roof panel and also the roof reinforcing crossmembers, so there is sufficient steel there to take the weight and wind load. I feel confident in his answer so I guess for me all good.

The only way really to be sure would be to peel back the roof lining and take a look but I'm not willing to do that.

Remove the rivets and nutsert the fecker. Rivets will eventually fatigue and break.

Unsure of the roof cavity config, only meant Old Mate’s that from my experience elsewhere that trying to install say an M8/10 rivnut into a say 20x20mm SHS doesn’t work as rivnuts that I have on hand are too long and bottom out on the backing material before their grip designed half is in deep enough ready to compress if that makes sense?

Am I expecting too much? Or am I just an angry old carnt?
We are getting a new pergola installed through a Stratco agent. They are around 70% through the build. The roof we have gone for is double lined with a 3 inchísh thick core of polystyrene. I get home today and the parking around in front of my place looks like its just had a dumping of snow. So I have had to spend an hour of my time with the Vac trying to clean up their mess, its through the gardens, everywhere, lucky it wasn't windy as my neighbors would have copped most of it.
They used our bin for their own disposal of lunch rubbish, fair enough. But FFS! Use the right fucking bin!!!

So I've left them a nice note on top of the Vac to use their fucking brains next time they need to cut polystyrene. I seriously cannot wait until we no longer need trades people here. Every single one of them just don't give a shit, I'm over these, these. What do I even call them? Fuckwits?!!!!!

No wonder I drink the amount I do!

I have one last trade to come in. Paving. He will be getting a grilling before he starts thats for sure. I'm seriously over spending my spare time, well my time when I'm not at work, cleaning up after these people.

It seems no one takes pride in their work anymore.

Sorry. Rant over. I just needed to vent.
