A "minor alteration" of my backyard, planned to take an hour & removal of small bit of concrete and brick edging.
Turned into a 12 hour backbreaking marathon , 5 trips to Bunnings , a rubble skip hire, broken pipe & now the whole yard is a destruction zone....

The other day I squeezed my ute through the double gates into my back yard, ready to set up my annex/awning. A couple of scratches, but eventually got it in.
The wife got it out and picked up some stuff and left it parked out the front of our house.
I got home after a hard day's work and we were chatting away and eventually
I said: "Did you scratch it getting it out the back gate? "
She said: "The passenger door"
I got the torch and checked it out. Came back inside and went straight to bed.
I got a quote to fix her damage - $2500. She has written off the whole door. Not happy.

Spent $150 on parts for a robotic pool cleaner. One week later the pump crapped itself. Got quoted $1899 for a new cleaner..
The only good thing is that they have a 20% store wide discount tomorrow.
We had tennets in here for 2 years before we moved in and in that time they never said that there was a problem with anything. We had to change the back colourbond fence, security camera hard drive, fix a green pool, outdoor blinds have come apart at the zippers still to do, pump for solar and maybe a new solar controller. Don't mind doing all of this while it was a rental, but doing it now there's nothing to claim.

Not only is the gear to replace faulty stuff, with custom pulley and pump, but the replacement clutch is there as well. I am sure it will turn up, but just not in time for me to get the barge back on the road. The good bit of news however is my neighbour the panelbeater is doing a perfecto job on the new bonnet, so it is looking close to a factory look

Back to cold Melbourne and reality. Ugh! Had a fecking great time in the NT though!
Also just got a call from the draftsman. The council won't approve us for the retaining wall we want to put up as its covering the easement. We need to set it back off the boundary by 2 metres, which makes it pretty much no point in doing the wall now. Not sure what to do here now. Looks like we have to think of a different way.

Yeah I need to think of other ideas for this wall. I’ve ask them to see how high we can actually go, if at all. Then we’ll take it from there.
As for the NT we had no cooler than 36 for the entire time. Loved it.

So now when you sit to the right in the lane to stay out of the bumps, valleys and gorges on the left side, you now ride over those bloody strips. So now you have to sit even further to the right which now has you over the middle of the road.

What made me happy today.... i got my car back from the dyno in one piece and my engine is still alive...
What has made me angry today?
I didn't make the 700rwhp target and am currently stuck at 450rwhp because it suffered from fuel pressure issues. The module in the fuel tank that holds the pump etc needs to be taken out and checked for an internal leak....
I know i shouldn't be angry at 450rwhp but when youre investing time amd money to make 700rwhp and you start getting things like this jump in your path it starts to become annoying and dyno time is a costly experience....
Back to the drawing board

Name on his license does not reflect his ethnicity in no shape , form or colour. Ok, insurance and cops notified, etc ... Pissing down so it's hard to tell if any minor damage .
Not even an hour later , I'm in the Patrol and a guy jumps out of the car in front of me , grabs a jacket through rear door while his car rolls straight onto my bull bar ... No hand brake.
Starts waving his hands in the air at me. Again , this guys attitude changes when I invite him to play him dash cam footage.
All in the space of an hour ... I'm staying off the roads for the rest of the day lol.

Yeah mines the same. It doesn't always do it. But I have a theory that I'm testing... I've noticed if I drive on perfectly flat road ( I know it's a joke, we're in Victoria ), it tends to be OK. But as soon as I hit a bit of a bump or a dip in the road at around 85-90km/h, it sends the wobbles into motion and won't f*** off until i get out of that speed range. And from there it's rinse and repeat. At least I think that's whats happening so far.

Not speculating anything but have you blokes seen what they used to attempt recovery ?
First thing I noticed also. Looks like they didn't have enough shackles and used the rope to bind the strap to the anchor point or even extend the reach with the rope. I doubt the group will forget this in a hurry. Hope the fella come thru ok.

bloody death wobbles, shake shake shake, rattle rattle, whole bloddy car's vibrating.
First thing to check is the wheel balance, and wheel bearings while its up. I lost a small weight from the inside of my front left and it shook really bad. Re balanced, all good.
Going through the same motions now mate. Ticking things off the list slowly.
I replaced my diff end panhard bush few weeks ago. It helped a bit , but still a little wobble there.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/10/172.jpg
More of a happy post, but had to re-quote this section.
I am happy to report that replacing my front wheel bearings got rid of 99% of the wobble / shimmy that I had around 85-90km/h range.
It is strange that old bearings were nice and tight. I've checked and re-checked multiple times. I had a mechanic check the tightness and there was no play and they were spot on. So I ticked that off from the beginning...
But oddly enough , even though the old ones were tight and not in a bad shape, for some reason still managed to give me the shakes.
It is so nice to drive on the freeway now. No more fear of being stuck behind some wanker who doesn't want to do 100. So i had to sit there doing 85-90, exactly the sweet spot for the shakes.

You must have known I was going to look at this this morning mate. I was wondering where that Patrolapart list was as I was going to use it.
I swapped my front wheels over 2 weeks ago, the wobble went away but has now come back. It still could be out of balance tyres as both sets of tyres are old. I'm going to check my bearing this morning & have a good look at all the rubbers and bushes & go from there.
Glad to hear your problem is fixed mate.

Indicator on my rear bar hasn't been working since I picked it up from being repaired. Brand new rear bar, all the rear repainted and they didn't bother to check all the lights worked.
Didn't think much of it until I plugged the trailer in today and none of the lights worked on that either. An hour of my time undoing yards of electrical tape to redo all their sh*tty work. I know I could have taken it back and had them fix it all.. But by the time I loose a day of my time running it to and from them I may as well just do it myself and do it right.

Fkn cars. This year I have had the following happen to me.
Patrol head cracked followed by injector pump failure.
Motorbike alternator failure... Yes it has an alternator.
Today the transmission went into angel gear on the LS1 I had planned on installing into above mentioned patrol.
I've cut my losses and put a deposit on a newerish ute. Originally what I planned on buying when the patrol first went but what ever.
Been massive waste of money this year on vehicles hopefully 2020 brings better luck.

I have a similar problem and best solution I found is...
Cover yourself in dripping,
Stick about 1/2 a kilo of Bacon in your pockets,
Go to the local Dog Beach,
Most people think if their dog likes you then you must be alright and they want to be your friend as well... but remember take a big stick, not to throw, you'll need it to beat off the excess friends you now have.

Last few weeks we've had a bunch of rather big bats make home on the big oak tree we have in front of our house. Apart from keeping me awake quiet a bit, which I don't mind... But the big blotches of shit they drop all over the place is astonishing. Both our cars are white, and most mornings they are covered in it !
Do they just fly around bombarding the joint or something...
And I tell you what, it's a task washing it off! Or should I say, chiselling it off...

We had a bunch of bats living out of a hole right in the corner or our bedroom window. They fly into the crack at the speed of light, I'd jump out of bed thinking I'd see them crawl into the hole, but never once did I see them. They're like mice, can shrink to half their size.
Yes, they crap & pee everywhere, it's bloody disgusting. I went around blocking every crack I could find. In the end I got fed up and declared war on 'em.
Your bats sound larger than mine were.
Have you ever seem the daily migration of flying foxes from Studley Park to around the Hawthorn/Key/Balwyn area at night. It can go on for hours, 100s of them. We sometimes stay in a Hotel in Key on the 3rd floor. We sit on the balcony facing north and just watch them fly in at dusk, absolutely silent.

Something as simple as fitting a sway bar.
I started off with trying to fit Nics Superior Engineering sway bar, drivers side plate bolted up no problem, passenger side bracket, won't fit as I have a gas line that runs along there.
Bin that idea and off to the wreckers to buy one. Guy asked me do you want a complete one? "Nah I got everything else just the bar please." OK $50. Get home and start taking the links off my old one, nuts were just about fused on, once I got them to the end of the thread the allen key started to spin. Screw it, back to wreckers for the rest $25 per side. Finally have it all fitted. Off to VicRoads, get to the counter I need to get this defect cleared. "yep no worries where's the car just parked at the front, one moment." She walks to the back I can hear asking and one of the guys "what's a sway bar what am I looking for" his reply was go see one of the other guys. Probably wasn't all that long, but it felt like forever, while she chatted with a co worker. Eventually he finishes what he is doing and all three of us walk outside towards my car I pointed it out can he put his head under the bullbar to have a look. I said to him mate its on the other side of the wheel, yep there it is that's OK. Back inside she continues with the paperwork and informs me that there is a $49.95 fee. Well I have to pay it don't I.
At least I finally got around to fitting one, Thank you Mansfield police and you to Nic, I'll drop in the next time I'm up that way to return your bar.

LOL. What in the f*** is this meant to mean ?
'makes women's knees go weak' end of the scale?
Oh yeah, definitely this. lol
Also, thought I'd point out the full eventful day's worth of story.
Was on my way up north to camp, meet up with some work mates. Just out of Yea, cops didn't get a root the night before and were in a not nice mood. They charged up their 4x4 radar that morning, as I got flagged into one of their "nets", which already had a few cars in shiny yellow stickers, along with their unimpressed drivers organising tow trucks.
When it was my turn the first thing I copped was a fine for unsecured load on roof rack. I had a plank of timber 170cmx15cmx15cm secured inside the roof basket with 5 large electrical zippy ties. In his books that was not a secured load. Zippy ties were a no go. I showed him a bag of hellerman tyton large zippies I used with it's 50kg rating per tie, but he wasn't buying it. He wanted to see a rated rope or tie down straps or ratched straps...
Then he had a look around the vehicle and began eyeing off tyre protrusion out of the guards. For starters no way known are they protruding, and secondly even if it they are, only a bees cock of the side wall bulge sticks out a little bit, NOT the footprint of the tyre which is the bit that counts. He seemed to have strayed away that once I pointed it out.
Then I could tell he began to be a little bit agitated as he could not find much on the car... And then BANG his eyes lit up. Where is your front mud flaps ? And I was cornered. Minor defect + unsecured load fine. Got the mudflaps fitted along with radius arm spacers to eliminate scrubbing a week later.
And the biggest kick in the guts, was on my way further north, 40 minutes prior to destination my mate calls me and says his car decided to retire for the day. Turned out to be a blown apart oil pump in the sump (zd30 common rail). And that was the end of the day/trip/weekend ...

Happened to me a while back. Heading up to the Murray and blew the lower hose in Shepp. Public holiday and everyone shut. I had recently cleaned out the back of the car and forgot to put the hoses back in. Murphy's law hey.
Lucky for me I had a roll of SOS tape, and this got me on my way safely without a drama.

Fit them to the car and carry the old ones as spares makes far better sense IMO but given you own more than 1 TD42 carrying that set every time you drive makes perfect sense.
I bought a set like that and it crossed the Simpson twice. It tracked to the Mouth of the Murray a couple of times.
I owned it for 5 years before I needed it and then I fitted it as a routine maintenance rather than a failure ansncarry the old kit now. Not a waste mate although I don't think you think that anyways.

Not so much angry just ‘frustrated’ I guess , FINALLY got back working after the continual rain around Powelltown saw me work 12days in 6 weeks - not ideal after a quiet winter, we had a big week then the truck developed a strange ‘rumble’ ( for want of a better description ) , thinking ( hoping ) I’d done a bearing in a diff or worst case gearbox but after checking everything we investigated further & ended up pulling the sump off to discover a cracked block . Awesome . So the big red Cummins came out & I put a brand new crate motor in it . It’s done 1.7million all up & 800,000 since the last rebuild so I’m not complaining but the $50,000 bill isn’t ideal .

No doubt in my mind (about climate change) but find one of those towelling steering wheel covers a better option than rags. ;) This one has been on the car since I bought it & did several years service on a previous vehicle before that. No fried pinkies & has even been washed to rid it of the stench of diesel & fish 'n' chips a few times.

A fair point raised by young neighbour mate; “This petrol issue should be advertised”
As you may see from the pictures above he has genuinely spent decent honest coin on contracting ‘Hebel’ block blokes.

Hmmm the wheel shimmy I had a while back has returned. 95-100km/h range. It is minor in the grand scheme of death wobbles , but albeit frustrating and annoying.
As some may remember , new wheel bearings fixed it for me. And here it is again ...
Do new bearings maybe need a few more ugga duggas of the elbow after a while ? After they bed in or something ?

Daughter is now sharing a house in town with 5 families, not allowed to return tomorrow thru Monday due to the worsening potential weather. They are not equipped to do anything as water and power are off, however a presence may be enough of a deterrent. The roads need to stay clear for the emerg services, so these pecker heads are obviously making their way around known back roads and approaches, or maybe simply opportunistic. On the flip side you have people opening their properties to firies - such a different approach. pisses me off.

I had a delivery re-directed to a commercial address as they would be fully avail to receive it, only to get a text from TNT to say 'sorry we missed you - no one home'???? @MB, @AB, are your troups on holiday? Maybe TNT simply could not be bothered driving out to YG? Add the track and trace response to this this of ' con note number note identified in system - like WTF - how can that be if they have my mobile number and can tell me the parcel was not delivered?
Update, so Bullet Perfomance confirmed the Yarra Glen address, but somehow TNT tried to deliver it to my home address, where I knew no one would be home - this is just unbelievable - someone is telling porkies I reckon

6 blokes head to the West Coast of Tassie for a Dream Family Adventure. 6 blokes with 6 TD42s. What are the chances of 2 of those blokes doing a water pump in Zeehan....... what are the chances of 1 bloke doing a water pump damn it!!!!! What are the chances any of us are carrying a spare?? No chance!!
Currently waiting for 2 water pumps coming down on a truck from Burnie, will refit in town this arvo then back into it.
My pump is a JPC HiFlow which has blown and disappointing. In have messaged JPC and they have offered to ship me another for free. Won't help me in Tassie but will sort that out When I get home.
What caused them to fail?
Cheers Trevor

Petrol prices. I understand it gets more expensive as the economy progresses, but how do you justify $1.30 up to $1.70 in a matter of hours. Unsurprisingly, just before the long weekend.
Thankfully, diesle remains pretty steady but the poor buggers that didn't fill up with petrol early are in for a shock.

How’s this. On our Vic west coast trip over Chrissy we stayed at Cape Otway for three nights. When leaving we we’re heading west and the closet town with fuel was Lavers Hill so I thought to just go there rather than back track 30clicks to Apollo bay to get fuel I’ll go here.
Big mistake. $1.95 per litre for diesel! On my entire trip everyone was 30c cheaper. I had to get some so I stopped and this Asian plick came out and mumbled $30 minimum. No fecking wonder why! So I got my $30 and left.
In hind sight I probably could have made it without tipping up.

Japanese railways are among the most punctual in the world. The average delay on the Tokaido Shinkansen in fiscal 2018 was 0.7 minutes. When trains are delayed for five minutes, the conductor makes an announcement apologizing for the delay and the railway company may provide a "delay certificate"

Crazy efficient eh? I work all around Vic and Oz contract to contract and spend a lot of time on the travel. Live in Geelong and when I need to go in and out of Melbourne CBD or inner suburbs for a month or so each day I public transport it as the road system from the west is so overloaded I can't guarantee I'll get to where I'm going on time. Then you get a 39 degree day and the train system chucks a wobbly. Ridiculous. At least today's return train left on time but again trundled along at trotting pace. Wasn't so pissed seeing it actually took off on time although late on arrival.

Just curious what were the initial symptoms of the failing pumps in Tassie ?? Noise ? Lack of cooling ?Water leaking from the tell tale hole is about the only way mate. It's just the seal that go on them. Impeller might wear out on a really old one but unlikely.
The tell tale hole is in the neck of the pump sorry if behind the pulley. Hard to see when it's all in place.
Darrens was so bad it was a jet stream coming out and very visible. With mine I originally thought it was just a leaky gasket so pulled it off and could make it the water mark coming from the weep hole so world of only got worse and worse.
What's yours doing?

Mine dumped its coolant all over the road mate. It had got a little hot heading into town for a shower. I came out of the shower at 6pm at the local pool and there was coolant all over the carpark. Ended up pulling the radiator out in the carpark then and there looking for a leak. cleaned the radiator and pressure checked it for a leak at the pool then checked hoses. Refitted the rad and filled with water and started the car and it was pissing out the breather of the water pump. Was bloody average. I grabbed a room at the pub with the family for the night.
Matty's leaked to failure on the way back to camp that night!! What are the chances! Same presentation. I replaced mine in the wash bay next to the mechanics and then matty did his on the beach that afternoon when we fgot back to him. We then packed up camp and dashed to the next location and caught the punt ferry across the Pieman river by 1 minute! Big Day.

Have run it continually for days and won't cost you a fortune. We also have a split system which works well in the main living area but does nothing for our bedrooms. Only used it twice.
Got back from Bendigo around 2 and after unloading the car I jumped up to have a better look. You won't believe it. The fan had slipped off the shaft. No belts Hodge direct drive off the motor.
Made up a little hooky thingy to get it out.

I've been stung by the China/Aus eBay item location rort before (think i have several rants about it in this very thread), but this one takes the cake...
I search and filter to mainland Aus as item location. Found what I like, item location, Sunshine Vic. Ok no worries, good so far... and 15+ in stock.
I message them, by any chance , could I pick up? Reply is, No, our sunshine warehouse facility doesn't have provisions for consumer pick up. All good, was worth a short asking, and makes me feel better that the message clearly mentions their "local" warehouse.
Bought it, paid for it & the postage on Monday. Estimated shipping by this Friday. Looking good right ?
This morning I get a message, that due to the Corona effect delays, my item won't be shipped from mainland china until well into March... You have got to be fckuing kidding me...
So I message them in return, asking for my $ back due to misleading information and I get a response in Chinese... Yep! Google Chrome automatically kindly offers to translate & From basic understanding, they're telling me, bad luck pretty much...
I'm going through ebay/paypal assistance channels about it now, but from past experience, I've eaten a big fat carrot with this case.

Last time it happened they raised an Australian tracking number but never actually submitted anything to throw me off. After 3 weeks of messaging them about their bullsht tracking number I threatened to submit a "my item never arrived" and poor feedback and they refunded my money immediately.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean.
Spookiest thing that happened to me was one night my wife bought a box of Magnums. We never eat ice cream. Wife jumps in car, I ask what did you buy, Magnums she says. Anyway, later that night I was wasting my life on FB and FB kept putting up ads for Magnums. I'd never seen adverts anywhere for Magnums before that.
I am almost sure 'they' listen in through your phone & I'm not BS'ing. It's very easy for 'them' to tailor advertising to you based on where you are or where you've been. If you keep your phone on you it's easy. If you remain logged into FB while you have your phone on you, it's easier again.
And the problem isn't that they know where you are or where you've been, but what they can do with the technology, who they can give it to, who can steal it, who can hijack it etc.
Check out China and their use of facial recognition systems.

What promos I need is for those things I will need next but don't yet know about. I suppose they are still working on that one.
