Where abouts are you mate? And when you moved in was there power connected?
It could be a fault with the meter and the power retailer remotely attempting to switch you on?

What's a raid system? Is that solid state drives?

Raid is when multiple hard drives are used to store data. The idea being that if 1 of the drives fails, the data isn't lost as it's also on the other drives. There's various ways to do raid, but that's the idea behind it.

A solid state drive is like a big USB drive or sd card. A normal hard drive has a spinning disk where as a solid state drive uses flash memory to store data. Solid state drives are substantially quicker as the computer doesn't need to "search" for the data

Yes but still relatively expensive for large volumes of storage. Strangely, they are also a little less reliable for long term storage and tend to fail quicker than a traditional magnetic disc. Best deployed for a partition where the OS and programs reside.

They are getting cheaper by the day now Drew. A 120 ssd can be had for around 80$. The best way for desktop pcs is to run an sad for your operating system and some of the programs you use a lot, then another old Gen drive for everything else. I run two 128gb ssd's in raid 0 ( 2 drive mirrored to run together for speed purposes only) for my operating system, another two 240gb ssd's in raid 0 to store my games then an old Gen hard drive of 2tb for all my prOn storage :)
Raid 0 has zero redundancy so if one of the two ssd's fail, you lose the lot of both drives. If you run large storage systems, what raid can offer, not raid zero though, for redundancy is really good. My NAS, for instance. Has four 4tb drives running raid. It has a fifth drive sitting there so if one dies on me, it will switch over to the spare drive and rebuild the lost data to that drive.
Sorry for getting off topic there. As for them failing quicker, it's like anything, you get what you pay for I suppose. I haven't had an ssd fail on me yet and I have been using them since the first 20gb ssd was released and it was 150$. I still have that sad too.

Apparently not, but having said that, I run ssd's in in all my laptops (4 of them) and all desktops and HTPC's (3 of them) and had none fail. Been using them since they first came out. It would also depend on brand of SSD too. There is some cheap and probably not so trust worthy drives out there.

The tyre shop I use have those rated torque extensions for their rattle guns. A couple of them shattered after prolonged use. They have started using a normal extension to get the nuts tight then swapped to the rated extension. I have had no problems, but I usually check the nuts with a torque wrench at home.

Is the tyre shop the regular one you use? If it is, and they are over tightening the wheel nuts they may be weakening the studs.

Decided to try sellmycar.com.au because i don't need my old car now i have the patrol and hate dealing with time wasters and tire kickers, only to discover that that is all they are offered 1/3 of their online valuation made me stand around for over an hour to get that offer, went past u pull it on the way home and got offered more from a 5 second look through an office window....still not high enough tho so now i have to clean it and try sell it

So living by the peaceful shores of Jervis Bay, intercooler hose comes off again (and it's double clamped) on the way to town, so I turned around and parked 'trol in driveway. Really should be about 20-25mm longer on one leg so I wait until wife gets home from work to take her car and spend 3 HOURS looking for a 57/58mm 90 degree Si hose in Nowra/South Nowra.. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME !! Came home and found one on-line and it's already been ordered, taking a whole 5 minutes... :(

I tried to support locally but here for most parts/IT/electronics I have to now default to on-line.

Which hose mate? The one from the turbo? I found when they get a bit old, and even double clamped they will still slip off. Happened to me. Put all new rubber hoses one and they were actually quite hard to get on. I knew these weren't coming off in a hurry.

Some w@#&$ who decides they will cut you off to pass the people doing the speed limit or just under in heavy traffic and rain and then proceed to do 10 to 20 over to make up for lost time only to find they cant get anywhere because traffic is bad ahead to not long after arrive at a red light.

Mind you feels good when you pass them further up the road cruising along on the speed limit guess its a bitter sweet deal.

mudnut
4th February 2015, 04:39 PM
I love welding with my TIG, but even with buying my own bottle the freight to and from Ballarat kills that idea. If I go with the local mob, yearly subscription and cost of the gas kills it too. The disposable bottles are expensive and the el cheapo regulator used with them are useless. Considering that Argon is only a bi-product from the process of producing oxygen and nitrogen it is way over-priced. Rant over. Going to get me a hot drink...

I pay $13 a month rental for a E sized bottle. And it's $70 refill for 100% argon and $60 for 75/25 arg/co2. That's delivered to my door as well. For a D its $3/month more then about $10 more to fill. I don't live in the sticks so that helps. I priced up going through boc and it was $25 a month and $150 delivered for a 100% argon in a smaller bottle.

For me to buy a bottle its $450 then nearly $100 per fill delivered. Bet you can work out who has my business

I bought my bottles (2) of Argon from Speed Gas, $450 for the G bottle and $75 for the fillup, that was 5 years ago, I need to get a refill as one is empty the other about so.
If I would have known BOC and AirGas charged by the month here I would have double the price of the software they bought from us.. monthly rental is a rip ..

It's the hose from the intercooler (Cross Country) to the intake manifold. I cut it about 20mm too short when we installed the IC. Came off in FNQ in August '14 also after coming out of the National Park road. Suppose to get another one, which I will measure twice and cut once Friday. So my bad but not having a standard 90 in 58mm (2.25") is tough to take locally.

I can understand people getting frustrated by slow drivers in the right lane, I get frustrated with that too but to use the emergency stopping lane to overtake a car and then slam on the brakes in front of him is bloody dangerous and stupid.

I hate it too but it's not a waste of time in the right places. I recently had to do an inspection of a large hospital down here. It houses around 400 patients. One of the shitty jobs is having to look at every bloody bed. As well as test fire and smoke alarms, rcds emergency and exit lights etc etc. Out of the 400 beds I looked at I failed 13 just on a visual inspection as their supply leads were split and six of these, the active conductor was actually exposed. So I can't see it being a total waste of time. The kitchen staff were even using a smashed to bits three phase outlet for their mixer. It was held together with masking tape!
But in your field of work it is a waste. OH & S have taken this too far now.

Thanks Bob. The shot seems to have helped her a fair bit as did the one on Monday morn. She is now on cortisone tabs for the rest of the week and we take her back on fri for another check up. She is still far from 100% though as she still just lies there and only moves to get water or go to the toilet, not really eating still only bits here and there Which is difficult as she can't have the tabs on an empty stomach. If the tabs do their job she will go onto a six week course they will then take her off them to see if the symptoms come back if so it will be a back and forth thing until/if she gets better.

Mark: if you think human docs are a rip off. This weekend we have spent just under 1g on the dog on tests and meds. They said if this does not work we will have go down the ct scans and spinal tap path and that starts at around 3.5g.

We buy in bulk (12kg) and freeze it. We also cook up rice and mix eggs in it from time to time which she loves but she wouldn't even eat that last night. Not being a cheap skate. Just don't have the money to do it. Its a bad time of the year for us. I know the seriousness of what this may be, but, if I get it done, it does literally mean no food shopping for the next two weeks. Just hoping on a few large'ish payments to come through soon. I don't take any money from my store so we have to rely on the other business. But its always the larger jobs you do, they take the longest to pay.

Thats what make me angry!!!! Slow payers!

Yeah I know what you mean mate, we were in the same position but the missus had to get it done to find out how bad it was..... Hers was actually bleeding.
We were able to pay it off in instalments.

I really hate the arrogance of larger organisations... Ride you when you don't pay, and shaft you when they owe you... All with the attitude of "you need us more than we need you"

Get it done. As soon as..... Find a different doctor.
My GP is also a surgeon (from when he was a country doc) and will do (in fact loves doing) minor surgery in his rooms, bulk billed, no cost for pathology either. He normally charges $75 a visit for a consultation but for that stuff he bulk bills.
Again, speaking from experience. Your health is the most important thing you have. Don't lose it over money. Get what needs to be done, done.

Made some parts for a job the other day, exactly to spec, had the other guy I work with check it all, he agreed it was all good. Sent them out to the guy on site, they didn't fit, now I'm getting a new one torn as he has had to rework.

I don't have the drawings anymore so can't prove anything.

Pissed mainly at the guy who drew it all up!

Insurance company's are farked, my old man had his own business working on trucks, he is a diesel mechanic and one day he was sitting on a milk crate I believe and lent over to pick up a tool, his back went and that was the end of him, hasn't worked a day since. I justs laugh at the people who talegate me in my patrol. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't bother me, them being on my dot doesn't make me late or me drive faster, if anything I drive slower since they put me in a dangerous situation. Plus if the want to crash into my patrol, it's 3 tonne. And if they crash into me in their crummydores they can enjoy a tow ball to the face cause that's about where it sits.

It used to bother me when people talegated me, but now I don't care. They can drive around and speed off, flip me off if they want. Water off a ducks back.

my dog barking (with a different bark) at 1.40AM this morning after finally getting to sleep with the f*%king mossies I get back out of bed and find an intruder with a backpack climbing into my neighbours property from mine, obviously to get away from my dog Rango. He sprints off up the road ( way to fast for my 53 YO body) so I gets the Pootrol out with the baseball bat and find the sod half a k away , head him off jump out and he bolted again into the bush. I tried everything to flush him out. eventually got the missus Mitsubishi VRX which is black and waaay quieter than the ol asmatic Diesel and cruised the streets with lights off. still no joy, then when I finally bring the car back home , I see a car floating quietly down the road. Brain puts 2 and 2 together and gets 3. I race up the road in the missus car again, head this car off, and they proceed to shine a spotlight in my face, I realise its to blind me while the original thief gets into the back of their car from the other side. sure enough as I hall the bat out again and run round to their car, they shout for him to get in and they race off. I chased for 5 km at speeds of 130kph easy. After a while I felt unsafe as the roads were too small for this speed. they just pulled away from me as if the VRX was running on 1 piston. so anyone in the Spring mountain area Greenbank or Jimboomba if you see a little blue car with personalised plate with the letters TUI in it driven by a cockhed, just PM me and I can track them down so I can administer a permanent limp.

3. Store allowed us to change to another brand which is coming down to temp now. Lets hope this one is OK

Would not recommend a Hisense
Update
Hooray
2.15 pm and Freezer at -21degrees (adjusting to get to -18 degrees) and Fridge is at 3 degrees.
Fully loaded with Food and Beer

my dog barking (with a different bark) at 1.40AM this morning after finally getting to sleep with the f*%king mossies I get back out of bed and find an intruder with a backpack climbing into my neighbours property from mine, obviously to get away from my dog Rango.

Good on ta mate I would have done the same. Hope the cops catch the little pricks.

Hopefully they wont take too long approving your next opp, you should have a zipper on your back to make it easier for the surgeons.
Do not envy you, must be a bastard what you have to go through.
