Feeling the frustration expressed earlier by others here. I have a trench with rebar ready to have the concrete poured. Can't find any concreters, labourers, handy men to do it. Some say they will come and have a squiz, but don't get here. The ones who do turn up for a quote can't be assed to ring back.

Well, I'm "shattered" at me self. Learn from my own dumbf**kery here folks.
When it rains, the solar panel on my roof has always pooled water on whatever corner the car slopes towards. The alloy surround is slightly higher than the "glass" portion, hence the water cannot run off freely.
Thought I'd attempt rectifying this, by drilling some 1-2mm holes to act as drainage points. I drilled through the corner part of the bracket and well and truly away from the "circuit" part of the panel. But , it didn't end well did it... Alloy hole went no worries, but once the drill punctured through the glass part, it was like watching a movie scene where some poor sod's standing on ice and a web of cracks surrounds him like a spider web... The whole panel turned into a mosaic within 10 seconds. Whats worse is the panel worked flawlessly, pooled water or not, over the 2-3 years it's been up there. Don't know what got into me to fix it now...
I've thrown firewood, swags, fire grills, right on top of the panel. Been hit with a ratchet numerous times. Not even a scratch!! But a tiny hole on one extreme corner and it's game over!! I've never seen anything like it!

sounds like it was tempered glass mate, that shit is baked into the shape it is, and once its set there is no changing the shape. any penetrations or edge taps and it does exactly what yours did. for future reference though, its pretty bloody hard to break with a front on colision. i remember throwing out a shower screen from tempered glass at work. the boss and i took turns trying to break it with our claw hammers. at least 10 hits and it didnt even mark. then in a moment of clarity he say "oh wait, stand back" tiny little tap on an edge and the whole thing blew to smithereens.

Bang on mate.
This thing copped a pounding. Sometimes when hurling stuff onto the roof rack I forget the panel is up there . Once I chucked this massive log up top and it hit the thing smack in the guts and not a scratch was evident.
All good, like for like panel ordered for tomorrow... Learnt idiotically through this one me thinks.... lol.

Cheers PB. But I don't much care about the difference. Firing anything like that at what really was a group of civil disobedients is just so off to me. They weren't rioting, looting or throwing molotov cocktails. They were being rude, disrespectful and offensive for which I can't justify the use of that type of force. Yes bring that stuff out when it's full on anarchy but not for being naughty. Don't get me wrong mate I'm no suspporter of the conspiracy theorists or an anti vax yob. OK, 'some' were throwing glass bottles, some were assaulting police(last count there are 13 officers hospitalised, a few with multiple bone fractures), some were firing 1" ball bearings from sling shots into police, some were vandalising vehicles and property along the route - apologies if i got the theme of the friendly peaceful march wrong. Unfortunately all these 'friendly tactics' get a 'happy rinse' by the press in order to drive a theme. If it was my choice the bean bags central material of dried tea leaves would have been replaced with anthrax. The legislation prohibits the marching as it is a defined public health risk - period, end of story, nothing unclear or interpretive, dont march. If you are unhappy about your loss of freedom. jump onto your limp wristed facebook style outlet - like this - and have a bitch and a moan, send yourself a bunch of flowers, draw some smiley faces on the bathroom mirror and simply harden up. Its not forever and will be over as soon as the group who are elected and paid to make the difficult decisions decide the situation is clear enough to warrant a relaxation of movement. I am looking forward to getting out and about like everyone else, but now, I wait and follow the rules.

But front up to court, plead drug affected state, poor upbringing, ptsd, etc. and off you go on a good behaviour bond. Had oil on the clutch, was told by a mechanic to spend 10 minutes driving with the pedal to the metal and slipping it on purpose. It burned off the oil really well. Stunk bad for a few days. I would only do it if 100% sure though. Otherwise it might stuff up you chance of driving to the repair shop.

Damn & blast! Seems I have become a victim of credit card fraud.

Noticed a transaction on the bank statement I didn't recognise for the tiny sum of $1.37 for an online purchase I didn't make & dated at a time we had no internet/phone reception.

Seemed fishy, so I called the bank & once through their laborious press this for that & that for this 'caller deflection system' I eventually got to speak to someone who immediately confirmed that my card was 'compromised' & explained the tiny amount taken is just to determine whether the card is active, before using it to make much larger purchases.

Ha! they would have been disappointed as it was my debit card I reserve for online shopping, & never have more than a couple of dollars in it except when making a purchase.

Somehow though someone got hold of my number online, AND the chap at the bank knew immediately it was compromised.

The card is now cancelled & I have to go through the hassle associated with a new card number. Could've been worse, but I can't help but wonder why the bank had not contacted me to tell me the card was compromised.

Could it be because the bank got hacked & they wanted to keep it quiet.

Take care folks... they walk among us!

A little while back I got hacked by Amazon , yes that American mob, only a small amount around $20 .
Hit the bank strait away and it was sorted pretty smart. Only problem is al the messing around getting a new card.
I check my accounts daily as one is not that wealthy and I don`t need somebody knocking over what I have.
Even headed down to the local cop shop and reported it.

If you have mobile banking, you can set up instant push notifications whenever a purchase is made over $X on your credit card for example.
I had this set to $1 on my credit card and noticed a fraudulent transaction a couple of years ago.
I phoned the bank and had my card cancelled within 20 mins of the transaction.

Yeah, safety can have a double sided sword though. Years ago the ANZ FALCON cut off my card when i was working FIFO after I bought 2 beers at the wet mess for $8 or whatever, and then it was my shout so the next round was about $80. I got the suspicious warning text, and rang them straight away. Kevin in Bombay would not accept the justification and the card was cancelled. i still had to get home with taxis and meals/accom after the roster - no problem said Kevin, you can go to your nearest branch and we will send a card there within 5 working days - well fabulous, nearest is Mt Isa, 3hrs by road, or Townsville, and my flights arrive and leave out of hours - Oh well, we can't help you, but you are protected - Yeah, thanks for that Kevin. Luckily one of the boys had a lazy $500 on him so it was cash all the way. I now have the double authentication set up but still fear Kev and his bird will still strike in the future.

Bloody builders. We moved into our current home 16 yrs ago, built by a brother pair of electrician and builder. Knox Council has rolled out a mandatory pool safety inspection, rolling over every 4 yrs. This is the first inspection since we moved in. The pool area is protected by sliding doors with mechanical latches and counterweights. Its a simple robust system, however the doors must auto close and lock from fully open, half open, 1/4 open and then with the door sitting on the latch/tang. So, took a bit of time to get them 100% functional, booked the inspection, $486. Guy turns up 7 hrs late for the appointment to assess the doors. Every self closer worked 100%, he could not believe how good they were. Then he pulled out his tape measure.
Every single door latch is too low, totally illegal and non compliant - all must be lifted - by a minimum of 12mm in one case. The standard is 1500mm off the finished floor level. The DH builder set the latch heights at maybe close to 1500mm then laid the tiles, so some were not even at the regulation height before the tiles went on. Three big glass and wood doors now have to be reworked to lift the latches, including a standard wet access door into a toilet, again, 30mm too low. The latch cut-outs are big and its going to take hours to resolve, before the cut off of Nov 1. Added to that, he added additional door handles to allow the doors to be opened more easily. The assessment was the door handles need to also be removed so they cant be used as a climbing point.
Then he measures the actual glass /wooden edging width on the doors - tempered glass doors, and they are illegal as well, ledge cant be more than 10mm to stop kids using the ledge to climb up on, and the frame cant be any higher than 100mm above the track, another non compliance. All this was supposedly built and compliant with the regs in 1993, and signed off at the time of construction. the solution for the ledges is to install some 45 deg angle pieces onto the ledges, as a compromise, he actually wanted 60 deg.

Not happy, doors are going to need at ton of effort and then have to be patched up as well. Too expensive to replace as well. I hope this does not happen with the new build.

Phil we don’t even have a pool fence right now and we are to be inspected early November. We need to get our paving done first which won’t be done probably until late November. Gonna be fun when they turn up.
Plus we haven’t gotten our building certificate yet as we still need to get two hard wired smoke alarms in and a water tank installed as per council request. But can’t due to Covid. We are already a month overdue with this.

I can understand your timing issues, but mine is simply poor substandard workmanship and then certification docs you would not wrap your fish and chips in. IF a child had reached up and activated the doors because the latches were too low, the situation could have been tragic. The inspector was practical, fair and pragmatic, however bottom line is, the installation is non compliant and must be fixed. in some regards we dodged a bullet for the last 16 yrs, not of our knowledge. The rectification work is really going to be challenging as the doors have extensive undercutting and rebates for the latching system. Bugger me, just get sick of the problem stuff.

Yep I can see you anger. We have an issue with our current reno, thanks to our builder and his lack of giving a fuck, that we are going to rectify our selves and we will be out of pocket a fair bit. We can argue this and force the builder back to fix it but we are at the point we don't want any trade to set foot in our place for a bloody long time. Haha!

We're not getting him back mate. We actually had the issue "repaired" by a "professional" aswell, all paid for by the builder, and its no better. You live and learn. Trust no one. I was asked by a neighbors and people just randomly walking past our place if they could recommend the builder, a hard no was the response. The overall build is great, we love what we now have, no regrets, apart from our choice in builder lol, it just the unnecessary stress that we had to endure.

Not to mention the bank STILL giving us grief, because of quotes on everything we had to get for the bank, pre covid, now being different. The bank just can't get their head around this and things had changed during the build process. Would NOT recommend Macquarie for a construction loan. EVER!

So after having the second oven sitting on the floor for month as the electrician wasn’t allowed to get in a instal it in the new kitchen, he finally could yesterday.
I’m speechless.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThat's not the sparkles fault, not sure if that's what you mean? The kitchen designers/installers haven't allowed for the correct oven mate. If you supplied the oven model to them they should have made the above cupboard to suit.

It's not the end of the world though, there are three options.

1: ask kitchen mob to make an infill and install it above the oven
2: ask kitchen mob to make and infill, push the oven up higher and install above the oven
3: ask kitchen mob to remake top cupboard to make full use of the available space.

Good luck, that's pretty annoying.

Yes its the kitchen designers fault. They were supplied with everything. I know its not the end of the world it just annoying when you spend a fuck ton on the "centre piece" of the build only to have multiple issues with it, and the company. One thing after another, still. I must have "fuck me over" written on my forehead. Not one thing during this build went without issue.
As for your suggestions, an infill is not desireable, making the ovens higher, we don't want to do as they are high enough already. Option 3 is what I was thinking of, but you can see the shelf for the above cupboard is attached to the double lined sides. So not sure how they'll overcome this. Maybe make the space into a cavity and then make the front lid longer to cover both? If you get what I mean.

I still love the kitchen though. Pity you lost the invite mate for Saturday night. You could have seen it! LOL.

Got a home delivery from Woolies yesterday. It was very late. All the cold stuff like Ice cream, chicken and meat was warm. Woolies did refund, but… Melbourne had a warm day yesterday. Did the refrigerated woolies truck have an issue with its cooling system? No. This is how it arrived. In the boot of a fuxing corolla.I will be taking this further.

Bugger. Yeah as Nicco said mate. Option 3. That top cupboard carcass will just unscrew and a new one screwed back in. New carcuss and 2 new doors made off site. The remove and refit will take about 15 minutes. You can see the screw caps in the photos.

Yep but both ovens will need to come out for the carcass to be removed. We’ll see what Freedom have to say when they eventually reply…

Bigger. Yes both ovens out. You can see the double skin. If Freedom had all the dimensions then it's their error. They will have to make a whole new carcass. Remove and refit of ovens will be on them too. They are in the business, this will be a common error they have to manage. It should be pretty painless.

Just a thought but do the ovens require a clear air gap above them for venting any heat etc? Might be something to double check before using it as a storage area.

Yeah we've had these ovens in self cleaning mode which means they get real hot and its barely warm on top of the oven, all gets vented out the front.

High level of unappreciative germs raising tensions because of no power, trees and cables down preventing them getting their caravan out of driveway...

Tricky one @MB, rustynail, the likes of the smelters in Aussie dont get much concession regards the cost of power, be it gas or electricity, and currently there is a huge proportion of LPG leaving our shores because the export price to buy is far less than the local purchaser. The govt could fix this in a pen swipe, by tighter regulation and add some protections into the local consumers. The counter point is the country moved into the realms of the global economy in the late 1980's, hence govts moved away from regulators into divesting to private ownership, which of course is profit driven.
The mob I contract to has been in the news of late, deciding to shut down a major fertiliser plant at Gibson Island, due to cost of gas. the supply is avail, simply not economical as a component when the export of fertiliser has to compete on the open market where some countries have state owned and run resource companies and they extract the reserve to death then drag in avail export stocks from other countries, all the time pushing others out of the market. its a plainly viewable situation but again, there isn't a global regulator. I feel for the companies, business owners and employees. Its simply a case of being more bottom line profitable to export the raw materials like iron ore and bauxite to the likes of china then pay the penalty in so many different ways. This market regulation then lands into the hands of the manufacturer - same with oil and the cartel in the middle east - not that the sheiks have enough money now!

This is the angry site. Hopefully we are allowed to be delightful here

Be angry - it's your right, but please try to consider how you express it on a site which has grown & developed a longstanding community in part because of it's wish to remain family friendly.

Personally I consider your blaming of greens to be responsible for global warming as nonsensical, but accept your right to hold whatever views you wish, (just if you express them publicly be prepared for others to disagree).

There are a broad range of views on the issues you raise among the members here, some will agree & some won't, but if you simply resort to name calling & unsubstantiated blame all you do is reveal yourself as someone who is willing disrespect other forum members.

Anyway my response to you is about your on-forum behaviour & how it makes me feel angry about what I consider your thoughtlessness. There are plenty of things many of us here have differing views on but our desire to put our community first ensures that even when angry we try to show respect to the others here around us.

This is not an issue I wish to pursue further, it has the potential to degenerate into an unproductive argument. As I said Be angry - it's your right, but first think if the way you express it is going to get others here to help you or to be helped by you offside.

Hi Cuppa. I apologise if my rant caused you offense. How awful of me to be blaming the greens. Ok, lets be green and shut down the high country cattle grazing. Oops, now we have bushfires. Lets all drive electric vehicles. Cool! When everyone plugs in and draws a shytload of power from the beautiful green wind power and solar sources the whole grid falls in a heap because there is no sun or wind, like SA, well, not the greens fault either. Get rid of that stinky coal, and that nasty nuclear stuff, but keep populating! Wind and solar will cover it! Earth has room for another 5 billion people for sure! Because technology will sort it out soon!
Once again, this is my pessimistic view, and sorry if it offends you. When the planets population exceeds its capacity, and some really nasty stuff starts to happen, feel free to be really offended.
If we had base load nuclear power we would have no coal fired carbon emissions.

For goodness sake Cuppa, if you don't like someone's rant in the angry thread, dont first respond with a belittling comment then follow up with a long winded lecture in forum morals and then say touch, no returns. There are plenty of things I read here that I don't agree with. I just dont "thank" those posts and don't respond. Each to their own, I'm not the boss of the world so feel no need to lecture. You and I have had plenty of times we agreed and liked what was said but we obviously disagree on this aspect. Sorry mate, still luv ya though.

Mickhead, your views don't cause me offence, I simply don't agree with many of them. Refuting your points of view might be lengthy & probably unproductive , and this really isn't the place, so I wont be trying
You may be surprised that mixed up in what you express are concerns that I share but possibly not what you consider the causes to be, & possibly not the solutions you might advocate.

My intention is not to patronise nor criticise you for your beliefs but I do nevertheless appreciate that you have said your piece in a more respectful manner this time around.

I have been training a small group, 5 members of a local earwig cluster I found in my garden, to dance an irish jig to Jingle bells. They have been progressing well, until this morning when I arrived at the usual pre-arranged time to find only their mangled shells . Seems something hungry has eaten them. Not such a joyous Christmas this year now. I wonder if there is a government fund avail for me to claim stress and loss of inner joy for the rest of my life - surely there would be, considering some of the avenues avail for emotional distress?

Had a headache when I woke up this morning, didn't think too much of it and took a couple Panadols. A few hours later feeling fine. Finished work at 1 and the headache had returned but this time with a little friend the niggly sore throat. Drove to get tested and was handed a pack of 5 antigen test kit.

Before getting home my wife calls me to say that a panel of the pool fencing has just exploded..

While I'm cleaning the glass I noticed the water level in the pool was extremely high. I looked at her and asked did you put the hose in this morning? No, why? because the water level is way too high, last night was about 100mm lower..

We looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders and continued cleaning glass. So I finally went in to do my test and it's a positive...

Winnie . Just curious what test was done on your daughter?

Those RAT kits are progressively becoming not trustworthy. Both ways. And because of the shortages, the market is slowly being flooded by shit make-shift tests.
I've been exposed to them a lot lately at work and IMO they should not be leant on reliably. We done a bit of a group test over the last few weeks.
A workmate had symptoms. RAT says YES, PCR says NO. He used the test while in the queue at a drive-thru site. Also vice versa, another blokes wife and kids were positive, so his RAT said NO, twice and PCR said YES. He had no symptoms.
And the recent close call to me was my uncle was positive through RAT and PCR with minimal symptoms. My aunty who spent a week isolated with him, kept being negative to RAT, but PCR said YES.

Accessible only by one of 2 river crossings.

Guess who's stranded now ?
As I type this he's negotiating the amount of slabs with some blokes across the river about skull dragging him across IF the water goes down a tad ...

Our 16 yo Breezeair unit stuffed up year and a half ago. First the belt and then the motor. The plumber back then said mate cut your loses and chuck up a newer more efficient and better system now. We just wanted the AC back. Bad move. Next the fan belt went again and then the pads were disintegrating.
Cost of ALL of that would've paid a new system fitted like-for-like 1.5x over in terms of $.
Gonna wait for off-season now to throw up a new unit.

This La Nina Southern Pacific Oscillation Pattern combined with a negative phase Indian Ocean Dipole cycle is the full whammy for a wet and muggy summer season my friend hence your evaporative air conditioning is next to useless this year. Stick your head in the fridge until our east and west oceanic oscillations oscillate once again and your evap cooler comes back into it's happy dry place again. :D

I love our evap unit. If you're proactive with it and get the flow right, it's awesome. If we anticipate a humid day. You run it early. If you let the house warm up and then try and fight the heat, you've lost the battle already. I think there are pro's and cons with both to be honest. The 'dongas' on site are fitted with refrigerant systems. They are necessary 24/7 to be honest, be it of hellish heat or sub zero winters, however the drawback is absolutely minimal fresh air integration and dehydration of that recirc air, ie, dry throat. I run a couple of cups of water in cups to try and balance the RH, however the smell from stale air drives me spare after a few days - but to exchange that air, I have to lose the tempered environment - catch 22. We dont have evap on site as the water is too hard and blocks everything up, plus RH swings from 5 - 95%, sometimes in a couple of days, so these dont work too well.

I think evap were the flavour in the 1970's when the melb weather was a lot hotter and drier, however its moderated to almost a northern NSW climate at times, much high RH. I will be installing a ducted refrigerant split system in the new house, hands down, and just persist with the cups of water in the bedroom for sleeping. Refrig a/c costs have come way down and their fitment is pretty simple as well.

I'm gonna put on my faraday suit on for this... I'll go against the grain of most of you here fellas. lol
I love our evap unit. If you're proactive with it and get the flow right, it's awesome. If we anticipate a humid day. You run it early. If you let the house warm up and then try and fight the heat, you've lost the battle already. Can run it all day and night using minimal juice and wake up without dry throat, nose and cough unlike most reverse and fridge units...
/hide

I'm with you Hodge.

I bit of planning and they work well. Its not uncommon for us to have it running for days on end. Turn it down at bedtime and crack it up in the morning.

Don't think they're making to last tho. My folks had one installed over 40 years ago and have only replaced the pads. Does require someone to go up empty, clean and refill the tank once a year, but still works very well.

The previous owner here installed a large evaporative system and a large split system. Obviously we're using the split now, it's nice and cold in the living area, but that's it.

Never thought I'd say this. But decades long reigning champ of the most incompetent circus of a company, Telstra, has been de-throned by none other, then their own circus act partner NBN. Coming from a customer point of view, and as a someone who works with their maintenance blokes (whom i deeply feel sorry for).
I'm unsure whos worse. Their fresh off the boat, trained at a local milk bar installers or the back office toadstools pretending they know how to organise stuff.
Has got to be the most dysfunctional company in a long sad history of bad companies. Other than privatisation horror show in the 90s, NBN has got to be Australias worst corporate disaster, by far and large.

True story. The day I had NBN connected I was using the internet when the NBN delivery driver turned up. He goes and does his thing then when he said he was done I checked and had no connection. That's a problem at your end he says, I just connected you. I said WHEN YOU GOT HERE I HAD INTERNET AND NOW I DONT. YOU DONT LEAVE THIS PLACE TIL I'VE GOT INTERNET AGAIN. He fluffed around for maybe another hour and eventually got me back online but he was real flustered because he was now behind his daily quota for "connections". Goddam muppets.

Avo, shut up! :D

I am disappointed and angry. La nina is a spanish word meaning “ the girl “ . We cannot have this kind of gender association. It must now be called La Non Binary Questioning weather pattern.
Also the referral to the Indian Ocean is very offending. Please refer to it as the “south east asian subcontinental ocean” in future. 😂😂😂

Haha, yep when we had to be connected in our current residence the NBN guys had to dig a trench and no less than 300mm deep for around sixty meters. It took two of them all day using to what it looked to be a toy sized jack hammer. As our soil here is hardened clay which aint fun. I asked them why they did not use a trench digger, their response was the cost of the hire is not worth it.
The following weekend I was cleaning up there mess in the driveway and something told me to check the depth of this trench. Well. I got as far as the second knuckle (sound like my first experience lol) and I hit the conduit. So after a few photos and a message to NBNco's FB page the same guys were back out the following week to dig it all up and re dig the trench at the required depth. Took them another two days to do it.
Once they had done and I was to inspect it and make sure it was all done and right, my final words were I bet you wish you hired a trench digger. I did not receive the warming response I was hoping for. Lol.

You blokes had a very very good run in my books compared to the saga I went through for both my place few years go and as I type this, my mums place (ongoing).
The incompetence is strong with this one fellas, believe me. Incredible tale of blame game towards us, where at every end the fault was on their end...
What was meant to be a simple ADSL2/Phone plug 'n play transition to NBN, turned into a clusterf**ck of such magnitude, I cannot even attempt to type it out.
I began recording conversations with them when I realized the IQ level of who I'm dealing with. Over 50 minutes of calls, where at every end there is a "Oh shit we stuffed up" moment followed by back-paddling and silence/crickets on their side, which then turns into "hmm we don't know how to proceed here" moment.

When I ask some of the NBN fellas I've worked with recently, they said this is a pin in the ocean compared to what they deal with daily.

Wowza!

Jens family just turned up to the caravan park in Cobram with the van and the entire bike rack and three bikes are missing from the back of van.

It somehow came off from Yarrawonga to Cobram.

They drove all the way back and can’t find them.

Some pretty expensive bikes too.

They have no idea how the rack came off?

Think of the leverage of that weight hanging off the back end of the van. I've followed heaps of vans with bikes on the back and the vertical movement is crazy! A small bump sends them flying.
Silly idea to put them there I reckon...

Wimps! We only use a fan. But to be fair, we are close enough to the coast to get the afternoon sea breeze.

Eeee Looxury lud! We don't even have a sea breeze! Ceiling fans & several pedestal fans run 24/7. I had to service the generator a couple of days ago, so no power. MrsTea says "Cor it only took a minute to feel the difference withouy the fans running". The little digital thingumyjig was reading 100% humidity. We do have air con in the bedroom thankfully.

There's a crack at the join of the line that runs into the receiver dryer and Patrolapart don't have any of that shape.

Apparently Nissan ran a million different variations of AC lines in the GQ.

Looking like a custom one made up me thinks damn it!

Shit interwebs! I've been searching for a particular collectable item for ever. I finally found it on eBay in OZ, 20hrs to go and the price was only at $14, current market for this item second hand is around $70USD. So what I always do when bidding on an item I refrain until about 10 seconds to go and snipe the auction. So at 10 seconds left the highest bid was $14, I put in $50, this will out bid anyone and not give them enough time to increase their bid. Well!!!. This time at 10seconds to go, I put in my $50 bid, the page refreshes and it says the highest bidder was at $14!!!! WT actuallllll Farrrrk! I had plenty of time! Farkin interwebs!
