Found out today there might be some proposed work changes happening. Depending on how and if it pans out, I might need a ute for work in the future.
I don't like this, since I just sold my D22 which I built into a rather capable touring 4x4, to upgrade to a proper 4x4 (patrol). D22 was my everyday driver as well as a semi-work ute.
And now it'll be interesting to see what happens. Work has also cut ties with toyota and now has a contract with nissan , meaning we get a rather hefty discount from nissan as employees on D22 and the D40. I can't afford to keep the trol and a car vehicle.

That's a bit mean of them.. I wonder how many blokes it will affect? Is there some other way around it? If there are few in your position maybe you can offer say rdo's to keep fleet uses??? Lots involved in maintaining a work vehicle, but I guess Its a tax write off for you then..

Spending big $ on patrol is nothing compared to what really hurt mate... The $ and time I spent into this before selling it, which was also to a degree work related. That's what really hurt. That was my pride and joy prior to the trol.
Heres hoping it doesn't repeat.

I really dislike customers who ring up 5 minutes before we close wanting a part and wanting to be able to pick it up as well even though they're over an hour away!!!!!!!!!
Haha I get that call every Saturday. They ask what time we shut, I say 12pm sharp. They then ask if we will wait for them, as they say they are only 20minutes away. They've had all morning to get their chit together but NO! They sleep in til' 11am and then look at their truck.

hahahha I mate of mine did some of that............he was sitting in the fast lane ( 3 lanes one direction ) and got behind some moron that was doing 20kph under the speed limit. He was sitting on the drivers rear end when the driver in front decides to hit the breaks so my mate accidentally ( maybe on purpose ) rear ended him. The guy breaks and comes to a dead stop in the fast lane. Mate pulls up and tells him to get off the road as he is causing havok. Guy refused to move until the police arrived, mate jumped back in his 4b and rammed the car of to the side and sat there and waited for the cops.
Don't know if my mate ever got charged, but his uncle was a policeman so probable got away with it

It also drops out early when I do country work where the Nokia still worked.

The starter has been way noisier since the gearbox change out. I found the mechanic had left out the clutch lever boot, so I investigated further. I also found a bolt missing off the bell housing cover, a stripped bolt holding the clutch slave cylinder. The transfer case selection boot is freshly split and NFG and there is no sealant between the gearbox and engine. I really want to pull the Old Trol apart to see if it has been done properly. If you can't trust a mechanic, who the can you trust??

Its the people driving at both those extremes that make it dangerous. Driving slow is still dangerous, as im sure the clown doing 40 or so under the speed limit on a 110kph road found out the other day when he nearly got cleaned up by everyone.

Especially when they're in the right lanes. And then the people behind them, have to merge and cause unnecessary lane changes, increasing chances of a bingle.
I love being at work during rain, because a lot of times it means we do nothing. But, rain scares the s*** out of me for another reason. We drive fairly large trucks at work and at the best of times, people out there have no sense of how long it takes these things to pull up, let alone in rain. So when they pull out in front of you, and then for whatever reason do not speed up in a hurry, it terrifies me. Not because I'll be the one damaged, but because I really do not want to witness someones car go under my wheels.

Braked as I turned into the driveway, and the steering clunked loudly. So I drove up to a nearby dead end and repeated the brake and turn. Sure enough, the steering clunked again. After that, I could get the steering to clunk, when stopped. I drove forward and the noise stopped. But when I turned and stopped, it came back. I jacked up the Old Trol and retightened the ps side wheel bearing, and used a crowbar to move every thing. On the test drive, the noise is still there. Booked it in for tomorrow. I just paid for new tyres and a gearbox, and a recoil kit to fix the clutch, this is getting expensive. Someone pass me a hanky.

Yep, we cyclists probably should pay some sort of insurance/rego, when we reach 18 yrs old and are employed. I haven't been on the roads since I stuffed my foot, late last year but I found the worst drivers locally are old ladies and rubber necks. I took my life into my own hands every time I rode into town. (no I don't wear lycra) And yes I do obey the road rules. I just give cyclists lots of room. I reckon youse don't like the cyclists because you're jealous of how cool they look. :)

I respect the concept of riding bicycles. Better for the environment and all that, etc....Thats great!
But...
Unfortunately my road Eltham Yarra Glen Road was voted the best cyclist road in Victoria....A cut through road from the suburbs to the country. It's an 80km road with blind corners and plenty of hills....Christmas Hills!
It scares the ship out of me when you drive around the corner and there are 35 shaved legged cyclists sitting two a breast doing 10km an hour. This road is also a logging route for the Toolangi to western port logging industries and I watch trucks lock it up all day long and also forced to drop it down to a serverly low gear and have to start again up the hills.
We have also just spent multi million dollars on an awesome bike track following the Yarra River from Eltham to the City....An epic 30km trail along the Yarra river, beautiful scenary and far better enjoyment then driving along a diesel fumed road dodging traffic in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that they are doing anything wrong but it seems they are only riding on the road for an image thing in my opinion.
This is a dangerous road to be riding a bicycle!
You can see the sign as you leave Watson Creek....454 people have died in the last 10 years on that road. It's really not sensible for a train load of cyclists sitting two a breast.
Only my opinion but I would much rather ride along a quiet river side or even on our 4 million rabbit warren tracks from town to town.
Me personally....The real cyclists are the ones I see going from Christmas Hills to Hurstbridge along the dirt tracks....Awesome down hill decents, sharp corners, only dangerous by how fast you can go without sliding out and knee scraping....Much better than on a severley popular tourist route with truckies on a narrow windy and hilly drive with 87 blind corners!!!
If you cycle to work, good on you....Respect. If you are riding for a hobby and to keep fit, good on you but don't ride your bike on a dangerous road causing extreme frustration for motorist, traffic banked up for miles and they always act like they own the road...They have no respect in my opinion and believe they are the superior on the roads.
The Sunday morning after black Saturday around 6am when our areas were demolished there was no one around. My brother, my dad and I drove back to our houses in the hope they were still there after no sleep protecting other peoples houses.
No one was around but suddenly a train load of cyclists thought they would go for a leisurely cycle to rubber neck the place. I was a bit disappointed by that scene. Worst day of my life, people coming home to burnt houses and all we see is a town full of cyclists going for a ride as if nothing has happened.....No respect in my books!
Anyway's....My rant for the night!
I respect the concept but do not respect the attitude "some" of them have nor the mentality of their ways!

I agree with you AB.
I have done a lot or riding over the years and have ridden on some narrow winding roads through Adelaide Hills but will never ride two abreast as I value my life.
I don't believe cyclists should be banned from the roads but they have to be sensible about how they use the roads as cars will always come out best, even if the drivers are doing everything as careful as they can they can still come around a blind corner with a car coming the other way and have no ware to go when confronted with a group of slow cyclists.

Todd,
I hear ya mate but I've been on the road all day every day for the past 20 odd years in my job and I have no issue with cyclists. Up until the last couple of years I was a mad mountain biker but also rode a fair bit on the road. Having seen it from both sides, many car drivers are c&$ts. I have been abused, swerved at run off the road for doing nothing other than being a law abiding cyclist.
For this of us who spend a lot of time on the road, we should be encouraging cyclists because they help make peak hour just that bit easier to deal with.

A few times it has cut out altogether other times it just goes again.

Charge sheet lists weapons as:
Fishing knife
Mag Light Torch
Plastic replica pistol (toy gun belonging to his 5 year old son)
Home made sling shot and ball bearings (belong to his partners 10 year old son)
For this he was handcuffed and taken to Christies Cop Shop and now will have to go to court.

What a bunch of spastics.
Ok fishing knife, I can understand if found in the vehicle without a sheath.
But a Maglite. (IT'S A TORCH YA TWAT)
2 out of 4 charges, will be dropped for sure.
But the fishing knife and toy gun can go either way.
If he has no previous records of weapon possession, he should be ok.
When he goes to court, make sure his partner and kids go with him.
When I went to court, the guy (court case) in front of me, had about 15 charges.
Drugs, lotsa cash, loaded weapon (handgun) , and I thought this guy was rooted. Bye bye going to jail.
Lawyer got his wife and kids up next to him and got off with a slap on the wrist.

The knife and mag light were in his boot and he also had his fishing rods so they should realize what the knife is for.
They also got a drug dog down to check for drugs and found none.

So why did they have cause to search the boot of his car?
I'm fairly sure there still has to be cause to stop and search. They can't just do it randomly. At least not in Victoria anyway.

Yes they can. They can pull you over and do a safety inspection......open up the boot, we need to check the spare tyre!

Hmmmmm. Yes, technically they could but IMO, not without a genuine reason to suspect there is a safety concern.
Eg; if there is a blown headlight, that would be the opportunity to have a "safety/roadworthy" inspection.
I find that completely unreasonable to be charged for possessing a fishing knife, particularly in the presence of fishing rods.
It potentially sounds like the cops got a bit of attitude and it was payback time (not casting aspersions BTW). It's just what I've experienced in my younger days from the Rozzas

I agree, the judge should beast the cops over the knife issue, otherwise we are all in the sh1t when fishing or camping. Over zealous policing is frowned upon within the courts so sanity may save the day.

They pulled him over for supposedly speeding but he did not receive a speeding ticket.
In SA it is not uncommon to have car searched, I was once pulled over driving my brothers Monaro and they emptied the car searching for drugs and then told me I could pick it all up from the footpath and put it back in.
Most cops are good, even have a couple of cop friends but some are total a$$holes.

I have had my fair share of run ins with the boys in blue. Never ticketed, just pulled up a lot. Most are good. Like the one who gave me a warning about my missing flare. And the one who was cool with me accidentally pulling my leatherman out with my wallet (took some explains but I was I uniform in a work ute.)
Then there was the copped who 'randomly' pulled me up this arvo. He was determined to give me a ticket. First he tried speeding. I wasn't. When I asked to see the proof he backed down. Then he checked my bike for roadworthy. He found nothing. He then tried to get me for my p plate not being visible. When I pointed out that it was attached to, and just as visible as the number plate, meeting adr's, he backed down on that one to. Then he searched my bag. Found nothing. Dumped it on the footpath then it was that I had been hooning, taking off from the lights too fast. I pointed that there had been a car in front of me, so that was impossible. Then it was tailgating. No I wasn't. Then it was breath and drug test. As if I would be so stupid. Then it was checking for roadworthy again.
Then he finally let me go. And he followed me to my street. I was just riding home normally, sensibly, and as I do every afternoon. I was polite to him through it all, as I always am.
As I said most are good. I know some. But the odd one out just want to get ya!
Have even had a cop try to tell me mate he shouldn't be giving his drunk mate a lift because 'if he drink drives its for me to intervene. Not you. Ffs if only more people had the sense to ring their mate when they were drunk! Would save so many lives!
As for old mate weapon charges that is just stupid!
