Well, split between happy and angry thread. I'll just put it here I suppose...
Good news is the Patrol won't be sold... yay!!
Bad news, had the meeting at work, and for the moment I'm staying where I am, in fact our future is uncertain after the chinese take over and them building a new "model" for our company, which we'll find out towards the end of the month. Talk about a kick in the face. Get thrown a hint about a car and promotion, and then a week after find out it's the complete opposite and much more sinister than that ...
Oh well.

Just had a lot of locals that delivered bauxite to the smelter sacked and replaced by a foreign lot. I bloody hope you keep your job, wages and conditions.

I sold that to my brother in law, to be honest mate it was disappointing to see inside that winch. It was full of water and had started to rust. Not enough grease in it.
My mate has an aldi winch and while it hasn't let him down yet he has only used it once and it is extremely noisy.

I reckon cheapish low mounts are a bit hit and miss, can be a bit of a gamble how they perform. Runva seem to be making a good name for themselves.

Warn make good winches but they don't seal them very well. Reckon if your going to see water is worth striping and sealing the thing whatever it is.

To water proof my aldi winch, I pumped a lot of silicone into the end, and covered it in a bit of lightly greased glad wrap, taking care to leave the seals and screws exposed. I then just sat the
drum on it and pushed it down a bit. I left it to dry, lifted the drum, peeled the glad wrap off, greased the silicon and whacked it all together. Have done swamp and river crossings and not had a drop of water enter the winch.

Have you stripped it down to confirm its knackered? Or is the Solenoid knackered? Did you bench test the winch on a hot wire direct to the motor in each direction?

Not yet.. Will do it tomoz when I pull it off. Solenoid works, but I think drum is seized.

Edit... drum still moves freely but only by hand. not with remote.

Thanks man.

Grappling is basically an umbrella term for sports like Brazilian Jiujitsu(BJJ for short - yes, sounds like BJ haha) and submission wrestling.

The comp I was training for was a BJJ tournament. It's like Judo only with more of an emphasis on submitting your opponent by making them tap out from either a joint lock or a choke hold.
The match starts off standing, but once it hits the mat is where it gets fun.

It sounds pretty hokey, and you wear jimjams, but it's a lot of fun, keeps you really fit(when you don't detonate your knee like a spud) and is IMO pound for pound the most effective form of self defence you can do.

I have no reason to think of it as being his climax. Rather than building up to it for years & years, I suspect it's just a repeating pattern. This is not the first place where he has been exposed & I very much doubt it will be the last.

I would agree that removing his audience is likely to be the most effective means of dealing with him here , but for that to happen I think we need to go through the process we are going through.

My suggestion, fwiw, is that members be advised that a time limit will be placed on the 'main thread' & thereafter locked. This would give everyone the opportunity to have their say, prevent it from dragging on indefinitely & leaving the record there would provide a resource for others in the same situation as us down the track.

I had to laughl, but when I left my trailer in the back yard, with a load of bluestone crusher dust over lunchtime, our pup attacked it.

I cover the load with an old trampoline mat tied down with rope. The pup chew through the rope and dug out a lot of the dust, spreading it for a few metres around the trailer.

She also ate about a 20 cm length of the trailer's wiring.

Ah the joys of owning a pup, I think Labs are the worst for chewing up stuff.
Need to buy him a big bone from the butchers that will keep him occupied

Wireless remotes are not worth the money you pay, a winch at the best of times has a delay
the remote only makes it delay more.
Do like a few of us have done and fit a winch on/off button
and besides that a winch in/out button
that will save someone shorting your winch out
and cutting your patrol in 2 pieces

Yea yet to try that..
That's the next step..

@TD personally I'd have my winch in out switch in the center console..
I find myself driving right handed bracing left arm on center console with the remote..
Imo it'll be a pita to have one hand pushed against the dash the whole time..

Your on off switch yea sure.. out of the way..

I'll also have a high amp battery isolation switch in the main line.. and low voltage isolated..

Cops in Mansfield. (again)
Really sad when you go to their town, spend $ at their servo, IGA, bakery, bottle shop, and then the cops pull you up and treat you like a crim because youre in a 4x4.
They got me on nothing, but it pissed me off when they clearly started getting agitated as they looked around the car and realized they're gonna have issues getting me on anything at all.

An example of an open letter to the Mayor of Mansfiled Shire Council

To whom it may concern, I drive a 4wd vehicle and I love to visit your shire to enjoy the beauty of the region.

When I do come to the area, I usually spend a reasonable amount of cash in the local stores.

Of late, I have had a negative experience with local officers of the Victorian Police vehemently trying to defect my 4wd vehicle.

I have read , on social media that a large number of others have had the same negative experience as mine.

The end result is that many people are avoiding your region, resulting in a significant loss of revenue for your local economy.

Regards.

Just on cops attitudes

A few days ago I was driving back to Ballarat from Stawell & was waved down by a cop who's car was parked blocking the hghway at Great Western. He pointed to indicate I should turn right, off the highway, which I did. It appeared there had been an accident on the higway & there was a fair bit of traffic backed. Once off the highway I parked & approached the cop to ask where I should go to re-access the higway. He was setting out witches hats. The young chap was initially quite aggressive in manner, which I ignored & asked where I should go anyway. He then became more reasonable & expained I would need to take a detour of approximately 25kms, reaching Ararat from a different direction.

This is far from my first of such experiences & I am certainly not a threatening looking character. I wonder if part of their training is to present aggressively or just a 'protective' behaviour picked up from colleagues. It doesn't seem so prevalent when they are on 'home turf' at a police station. I also wonder how instrumental the attitude is in creating unnecessarily aggravated situations & why there is not more emphasis placed on 'people skills' in their training.

Dunno what it would be, Cuppa.

Might be that they have to spend probably 80% of their time dealing with anti-social turds and interacting with one of natures true gentlemen such as you or I takes a moment or two to adjust.

I could never be a Copper... I would have run out of bullets and worn out my Taser within a week.

Nature's true gentlemen eh? :)

You make a good point, but from personal experience & from my wife's reports on their behaviour when called to situations involving mentally ill folk their approach certainly causes themselves more grief than they would otherwise experience . Treating everyone as anti social turds must result in a higher incidence of anti social turd-like behaviour.

And once again the conversation turns to shit. :)

This comes as a surprise to me as we have spent a bit of cash in Mansfield as well and have never had a problem with the cops. On the odd occasion we've had any dealings with the cops it's always be positive. Just to keep some balance in the convo.

Normally I don't have an issue either. They are doing their job at pulling people over and pinning them for something they are doing wrong. Fine.

But... When it is clear as daylight they get angry and annoyed that they can't find anything, and then start digging deeper... That's what grinds me big time. It's like I wasted their time for being pulled over and got them no $ ? I mean, it should be a good thing that they found nothing wrong with my car, my license or me (no alcohol or drugs in me), should it not.

I understand the reason for asking, as it seems like the way they acted, there had to have been a bit of fuel on the fire from my end.
But can honestly say, definitely not mate. I'm not the one to have words with them as that just escalates things. No words were raised, and I simply answered anything they asked or requested. License, bretho, lift and tyre size etc...
As like any long weekend, judging by a lot of faceache posts, a lot of people experienced a similar thing. Some came out unlucky...

I guess a positive side of things for me is, now I feel a bit better, as they had trouble pinging me for anything so I can only assume car is more or less legal.

Unfortunately the Manfield Police have possibly the worst reputation of any coppers in Vic or anywhere. I would drive an extra 200kms Not to drive through Mansfield. 2am is the only time of the day to enter that town and then you still hope he is not out of bed or your done. The offending officer moved away for a while but is back with a vengence.

No attitude required. You don't even need to be in your car. I know people that have been done while they were parked in the street.

With the Massive influx of young guys buying GQs cause they are cheap, throwing big bucks at them with big lifts and going out and making a mess the community is now well and truly under the spot light.

If you are in a Nissan or Toyota 4x4 you are a marked man. Simple as that! Not sure Pajeros get the same attention.

It's beyond Mansfield now but Mansfield is the Zero Tolerence Bench Mark. They were booking cars of Spectators heading into Noojee to the PatrolAPart Einch Challenge on the weekend. Some very unhappy fellows.

My GQ will be a Night Drive Only car when it's rolling again.

Yea you can search a post, but you can't search the subforums in general..
You have to pick a path..
Say, subforums, general, general chat.. then you can search.. so if you don't know where a post is located it could be a Web search job..
Got ya, will have a fiddle with it later

Geezus mate, that's 3 weeks after I was born, I have no idea how you could of delt with that all this time. Hats off to you mate.
Fingers crossed they sort it out. All the best bud.

Still very painful but the meds are helping, missed MN's call last night
as I wanted to pass out and try and get some sleep.
Now I have to go through all the BS again about getting permission for another
operation, I have a request in already so that will help. Cant put up with this much longer
but plenty of ppl in worse off positions than me, I can still walk and drive painfull as it is.
So minimum movement from now.

You'll still bend it, if you really really try, but there will be more important issues to deal with first.

Nuff said....

Theres is 4140 Chrome molly and the Superior one is 4340. 4340's yield strength is nearly double of 4140. But RR are giving lifetime warranty of their product, which to me says that its strong and the likelihood of bending it is minimal.
Price difference is not a lot too. Not sure which way to go...

Bidding started at $600k and was very slow, stalling in the mid 600's, but the auctioneer kept pushing it - turns out the reserve was $720k!! Absolutely nuts!!

Thats the easiest bit to be honest. Silicon is Hydrophobic so a Wet Finger is your friend. Wet towel in one hand and either clean things off with said wet towel or wet your finger and clean it up with your pointer.

There's a number of ways to do it but the easiest way for a handyman to get a good finish is to mask both sides of the joint then fill. Run a dry finger over pushing the silicone into the joint and removing excess.
Remove the tape carefully and then gently run a finger lubricated with soapy water over the top to smooth the lip left by the tape.

Well today has dented my wallet quite a bit to the point I'm nearly contemplating missing the may trip..
Lights started flickering in the shed this morning and then all power lost..
Shed is run from house line so house lost most power to..
Wife comes out and says the fuse box is crackling and popping..
That's not good..
Grab a bit of timber dowel.
Open the box to smoke and popping..
Breaker not tripped, mains still on..
So first thing was trip the breaker and kill the main..
Still popping..
We still had the old ceramic fuse wire setup and it turns out previous owners doubled up the wire..
Fark..
It had melted the wire off the back of the fuse block..
We are so lucky that it burnt out in the box and not the roof..
But still it's $900 as the old setup was toast.. all fittings and screws were stuffed..

Ok the upside it's all proper and up to spec again..

On the downer is we only have 6mm mains cable coming in and a 40A fuse on the house..
So any future shed will mean new mains upgraded to carry the extra load..
And in now $900 down..

Now have to start all the scans again from scratch to get them right and finally (hopefully this time) find out what the hell is wrong and get it fixed.

Just what I need, all the discs being injected and pressurised again, friggen hurt bad enough last time....argh

Out in the shed last night cleaning up and lit the fire to burn some crap off. Threw a old water bottle in the fire that had something in it. It was quite flammable done is little woof now and spat burning liquid on my face...

Ended up in hospital last night but home pretty quick. Very very lucky doc said I escaped with only burning first layer. Equivalent to severe sun burn.

Now behind the healing which sucks so far. Face is all tight and weeping. Got a small patch on my forehead, some on right cheek, tip of my nose and the worst part my top lip.

Stupid stupid mistake not paying attention. Got a feeling it was either metho or something along those lines. It's burnt clear. Still hurt a bit.... 65672

Ah she was a little worried at first now just calls me a dick lol. Still weeping like the wet season up north atm and is bugging the hell out of me. It's itchy as the liquid runs down. Dries all yuck to. Ah well might try some time outside tomorrow and see if I can keep my mind busy. My back is getting sore watching so much TV.

Damn Matty!! I did read about it the other night on FB when Sarah panicked cause you didn't want to go to hospital. Damn you made a mess of that bud!! D1ckhead!!

Keep it moist made, don't let it dry at all mate. When I got my nose fixed they burnt the first layer and deeper in spots, I was really surprised when the healing began and skin just appeared. Keep it moist and the healing will be faster and the scarring will be less.

Good luck mate. Goose!
