The panel beaters tell me 99% of the damage is bits that are removed to fit the steel bar anyway so might get lucky. One place reckons they can get them fitted as part of the insurance claim if the whole job comes out cheaper. Not a bad way to get a bar fitted on the cheap I reckon

I'd be surprised if it isn't something to do with P plates..........
That said it's rubbish that Affinity would behave that way given they heavily promote themselves within the industry......
I'd be half tempted to have a whinge to 4WD Victoria and see what they have to say.

Yeah thought both those things too to be honest. Most likely the "P" Plate is the biggest problem. did you list it as a Turbo Diesel or list the type of Turbo and brand of Intercooler? that might also have scared them off given your "P" Plate.

If you were a member of 4wd Vic i'd be giving them a call for sure!! They will be Pissed! not sure they will care as much if your not a Club member though as the logic is that if your a member of a club and the Association then your a responsible 4wd owner ;)

When I had my bull bar replaced they got a quote for a alloy bar at $2200.. I said to them a Arb steel winch bar is only $1600. They said no worries and installed it all..
So don't get the cash, unless they refuse to change it.. They should go the aftermarket if it's cheaper.. And install it for you..

Just spoke to them and their reasoning is because their underwriter, CGU, changed their policies in the last few months and have said that if the value of the modifications and accessories exceeds 100% of the value of the vehicle they will not touch it. I suggest you check they haven't changed yours without you knowing.
I said they would be losing so many potential customers especially with older vehicles and he said they are coming across the problem very often. Well they should change something!

And the problem is??
If you're paying for agreed value and accessories you're paying for that risk in your policy.....
I'm not understanding how that affects their policy's or ability to insure.....

My guess is it has something to do with the airbox/intake. I think it has to do with the pressure of the air inside the intake when you are gassing is quite high, then when you lift off you are taking all the fuel out and mucking up the air fuel ratios. I know on real cars that are on gas, patrols, you need to fit an equalizing pipe to the intake to stop it doing that.

Realistically they aren't worth that much. That's a pretty good deal Winnie. They sell for more privately due to demand of the drive train. You could cut that in half for a petrol variant. We are lucky that we can insure them for higher amounts compared to most cars of the same vintage.

Might pay to have the gas system checked, they are a fickle bitch and a pain in the arrrs if they dont work 100%

Farkin gas system backfired again and stalled but this time would not start again on gas and when I started it on petrol all it did was idle roughly and had no revs whatsoever :( So he I am on the side of the highway in the breakdown lane with trucks roaring pass me at 80+ clicks and all I can think about is that guy and girl that got killed a while back that was on the side of the road broken down.

Rang the missus and said you better pick up our daughter as I'm going nowhere, lucky she was able to leave work and pick her up. Not with NRMA roadside so rang my old man who is an ex diesel mechanic..........typical no answer on home phone, rang his mobile.....no answer!!!! Buy this time I'm wondering if I would make it by 6pm to pick up my boy from pre-school and wishing I was at home with a coldie in my hand.

Decided to ring my local mechanic ( which by the way I don't use that often so didn't like my chances ) and asked him what was the chances of coming out and having a look. I'll be there in 10 was his reply :)

He believed there was a problem with the gas converter ( I think thats what it was called ) and buy passed it so it would hopefully run on petrol. Managed 2 get it back 2 the workshop and lucky for me the gas specialist next door to them was still open so sent me around to him. He pulled what i think was the gas converter apart and sure enough I had blown the diaphragm so it wasn't making a proper seal. The guy said whoever had put the diaphragm in did not put it the correct way and because of that it allowed it to blow in when it backfired because one of the bolts wasn't holding it in properly.............well something like that anyway.

Finally back on the road, picked son up from pre-school and daughter up from my partners work was meant to do some shopping but said bugger that I'm going home for a beer

So here I am in the angry thread with a beer in hand :)

Car still backfiring on gas so leaving it on petrol for now, going to ring the the mechanics 2morrow and book it in 2 get the leads and plugs done then in a few weeks when money permits will book it into the gas specialist and get it tuned.

Thats a shocker mate!

With all that backfiring keep an eye on your airbox coz they tend to blow up, also there is a pipe the goes from the throttle body to a purge valve near the transmission dipstick that pops off and there is another pipe that cracks that goes from the throttle body to the front of the pletnum near the coilpack.

Firstly, that is so lame!! Lmao what a poor effort!

Secondly, whoa up on the "greenies" call. Theres many, many people that want to close tracks/stop access that are in no way affiliated with "greenies". Plenty of farmers, bush walkers, shooters, forestry workers, tour operators etc that love to hate hoons.

And thirdly, what a crock that he is in a "4wd club"...... Call it a softroader gang and be done with it! Hahaha

Still ticked off from Yesterday, went to change my 305 Muddies for my 285s ATRs as I'm going fishing with Bob and Roofy.
Seems the person who fitted my snorkel cross threaded two studs on left front wheel, after I told him not to use the Rattle gun as I can't undo
them because of my back. Now the funny bit it cross threaded it so bad the nut spun on the stud, going nowhere. Steam was coming out now.
Finally got it off and changed wheels over. New stud from Nissan $14 and I'll get the ppl to replace it this week, Just a bit of care , that's all I want.
How hard can it be work on my 4x4 like its yours, that's all I ask, deep breath all better now and quiet as a mouse with the ATR Coopers on.
OH FYI the left front wheel needs to be removed to access the inner guard when fitting a snorkel on my model

As for that idiot doing what looked like donuts that one more reason Government Dept, Greenies and all the others Lucas mentioned need to have tracks closed.
Most have seen the awesome High country trips recently from members that's what will be closed at the drop of a hat. really makes me angry that some still think doing donuts is cool
Stupid Pr$cks are shooting themselves in the foot. If you ever see these clowns take regos, times and dates and hand it on. Sad to think maybe just maybe one clown in a Subaru

nah your missing my point. Which is: If they catch too many hoons in a national park, forest reserve, 4wd area etc then they close the whole area to everyone....BUT if they catch heaps of hoons in a particular carpark, city street, subdivision area they DONT shut the whole place down for everyone.
Obviously if they tried to shut down a city area because of hoons then there would be massive outrage from the local law abiding citizens that want to drive there.
But for some reason its different for recreational 4wding areas.........

nah your missing my point.

That would be because the want to shut most of the parks off anyway and just gives them the excuse to do it

I can't can't comment on the hoons because yes I was a hoon once 2 ( and I'm sure most of you where at one stage )

Hearing that the extreme fires around my way 2day may have been deliberately lit and considering that there was no storm activity in the area it doesn't surprise me!

With at least 6 localish fires that went to extreme warnings only 2 houses lost and some cars n sheds. So top effort by the the RFS........and all fires have now been downgraded to watch and act ( still out of control thought )

This is a linescan map of the Winmalee Fire closest to me. The bright areas show active fire. Brighter colour means more intense fire.

Popped down to SCA for some de-greaser to clean up some oil leak from filter.
Checked where my container on pentrite was and there it was in the back facing down with a loose lid..
And yes clean 5-40 oil everywhere, sprayed it with the de greaser to dilute it ,took off the kick plates
and there was the mother load in the channel that houses the electric cables, Spewing so stuffed some clean rags
into the cavity to soak up the fluid over night, Well that bit aint rusting out quick LOL

Stay safe with the fire pretty foul vision down here, stick to your plan.

well long story, but all year i have been having family troubles(extended family). me and my cousin are neighbours and had a biff. since then him and his mum, my aunt have been making mine and the missus life hell. its put alot of stress on me, tegan and all my extended family as it has torn a massive rift because of the way my cousin and aunt have been acting.

thats not what has made me angry tho, what has is i spoke to an old friend of mine today and found out he has recently bumped into my grandfather and spoken to him. my pop is 76 years old, he still operates a law and accounting business and is in no way a soft/weak individual. earlier this year he suffered a stroke and had a heard operation to clear out some blocked arteries. his health has been poor lately to say the least but because of the stress of recent events it lead him to say this to my old friend:

friend: "hi bill, your looking well since your heart operation, looks like youve recovered well"
pop: "yeah i guess, but i wish the surgeon had let me go... it would have solved all my problems"

it broke my heart to hear that.
