Maybe you've done all the shit and there's no shit left to do? Sorry, I haven't been following this thread.

I'm pissed off coz my brain just doesn't work as well as it used to, I used to be pretty sharp. Shit just seems harder to understand these days, everything seems more involved & more complex than it needs to be. I'll tell ya one thing though, I've become happier since I only listen to the news once a day. Bloody over sensationalised crap, I just don't believe anything anymore.

Sometimes I feel like I have two brains. One says, take notice of that, read that, talk to that, move and eat. That one seems to be working really well. The other one is used for things like, understand that, think of something clever, self control, remember what you knew 5 years ago. That one is only running on 4 or 5 out of 8 cylinders, it's a shit of a thing, I can use it and it gets me out of trouble, but it never makes me look bloody fantastic.

Thanks mate, I sometimes go 2 post in the depression thread but think 2 myself people have suffered and are still suffering worse off then me so don't end up posting in that thread.

To Todd and others - including myself.

We all face challenges, varying circumstances, issues and concerns - none less important than the other.

I'm growing in the area of asking for help. I reasonably regularly ring up for professional help, and most times, after a phone call or two, I'm back on track.

Please, if you need help, or think you need help, or others have encouraged or told you to get help, please do it.

The only number I can think of at the moment is Lifeline 13 1114.

Unconditional love to all.

Take care out there.

Not angry but a little disappointed. I did a Vic High country trip over last weekend. As soon as I left the black top I stopped to air down, even though it was a dirt road I thought it will be a much more comfy ride at 25psi. Upon doing so I heard then saw three Vic Pol dirt bikers coming up the black top and turned onto the road where I was at. They saw me and stopped. I though beautie! I can flash my Engineers badge and paperwork at them. The copper gets off the bike and comments on the scoop. I said to him the entire car is engineered and i can show him the paperwork. He declined and just took my details, had a short chat about the track conditions of where we are going and then took off. WTF! No questions about lift or anything else?! I even said to him it has a 4inch lift and he didn't care.... Haha!
Maybe i just gave him the right attitude? I was totally expecting a rude and arrogant person as soon as the helmet came off.

With all their comms nowdays they most probably had all the vehicle details before the helmets came off. Just checked your details matched the vehicle.
Either that or he has a patrol and wanted a closer look at yours.
Reminds me of getting pulled over on our bikes one day because the copper wanted to have a look at my mates SS Ducati.

Yeah dunno. First thing he mentioned was the scoop. Then pretty much the rest of the conversation was about the weather and track conditions while he wrote my details in his book. I was like dam! Atleast let me pop the hood for you to see my blue badge on the firewall.

15 years ago we used to ride fairly regularly in this area on trail bikes. I had a new Husqvarna 250cc 2 stroke bike. The coppers were just upgraded from the XR600 to the XR650. The copper stopped me just to look at my bike then asked if he could have a ride of it. I replied with only if I can ride yours. He declined and so did I. After we chatted I took off and stupid my decided to do a wheelie down the road, it was a good wheelie, maybe a 100 metres or so long then I got cocky and decided to knock it up a gear and I hit powerband and the bike just spat me off the back. When I stopped sliding down the road I turned to see the copper in hysterics. I bit red faced I got back on and road off nice and quiet. Haha!

Yeah the cops had a thing on over the long weekend up around that area looking for unregistered and unroadworthy & unlicensed bikes & cars. I'm finally finding a use for Facebook. I follow DELWP and Parks Vic and others and it was all mentioned by them, it's pretty useful actually. I follow DELWP Gippsland and you can ask them directly questions about tracks etc, pretty handy.

This from a site where some of my equipment is used;

Good afternoon Tony,

Following up on the supposedly visit here at (site name), I do apologise as I wasn’t aware of the centre regulation regarding contractors coming in after hours. I have raised this with the centre management and fortunately we are able to persuade them into allowing us, just this once, to not have a security guard whilst on site. The only condition is that all contractors who will access the centre must be (company name) inducted. I am aware that only James is inducted so we will need you to be inducted as well.

It will be an online induction which I can assist you by getting one of our colleagues in the head office to send you the induction link.

As soon as we secure the induction, we can then set the site visit on Friday 16/06/17 at 2230. I will make sure to be on site that night so we can get at the bottom of this together.

To which my response was;

Good morning Paolo.
I have reluctantly completed the induction as demanded by (company name). Hopefully I will now be allowed to enter the premises and observe the operation of the buffer. I am now inducted to (company name) sites for a period of two years which is ridiculous as I will only be making the one visit in all probability. I am a massive supporter of safety in the work place, but in this instance we will be observing only, no work will be carried out and no tools will be used and therefore no permits will be required. Considering we, the owner and staff of Specialised Mechanical Services, are initiating this visit to assist the client at no charge to either the client or the contractor I see this overofficiousness as ridiculous and obstructive. At the end of the day however as I am now inducted can we please proceed at 2230 this coming Friday 16/06/2017.

I should add that my existing accreditations already allow me access to most mine sites in WA, some ADF sites and Rail and transport sites and workshops. not good enough for an inspection after hours as this place though.
End of rant

I agree Clunk. Visitors to every site need to be aware of operations and risks that are typically unique to that site. It isn't satisfactory to assume you have the necessary knowledge to firstly be aware of a hazard but you also need to be familiar with the way the plant handles an emergency or even what its normal protocols are. I have worked on numerous minesites and also dozens of food manufacturing sites and each has its own contractor familiarisation process - its simply making sure you as a visitor remain safe, and there are not people on-site who are not at the minimum level of awareness of the operation. Its a pain, and I have questioned this process for a while, however now realise its there to ensure I am fully prepared for the interactions on that site.

You can get a pretty seriously decked out fourby for under 5k now and people realise that. Camping and 4x4ing have become the latest trend and honesty I hope it's a fad that will die out.
So much different to 5 years ago, you could go out on a long weekend and just about be guaranteed your favourite campsite. Now you have Buckley's chance unless you leave 3 days earlier.

A black discovery fell over coming down Dingo and came out on the back of a MB Unimog Saturday. I had the misfortune of being with a group that wanted to camp at the intersection of Howitt High Plains Rd and Dingo Hill TK - could not believe it, but they would not be swayed - they 'liked to be around people'??????. Well I reckon 300 4wd's screamed past from 11am Friday to 4am, then it started again at 6am Saturday. I stopped counting at 100 vehicles the number that headed down Dingo Hill Tk. I peeled out of there at 8am Sunday - couldn't take any more of it. Great bunch of guys, but crap campsite knowledge. Great food, brilliant weather, good company, just the wrong weekend and the wrong campsite.

Couldn't think of a worse place to camp on a long weekend. I am an average guy, and maybe my sense of what is right or wrong has changed now that I have a learner driver in the car with me, but we had a 100 series and Pajero, with no sense of road positioning try to take two of our learners off the road at once. One of my mates had to grab the steering wheel in fear, and I just basically shut my eyes and hoped for the best as we headed through the edge of a spoon drain ......
the speed some guys seem to want to travel at on the Tamboritha Rd .... it would have sounded like you were camped on a freeway.

Would have been a little colder up the top too. There was still a whole bunch up there on Monday when we came through which may have been your crew ....

We had a great weekend, and the track conditions were as challenging as I can recall them on Butcher Link and Dingo ... I would not have liked to see someone having to reverse back down in a couple of the trickier spots, but luckily we didn't have to.

The black Disco could have been us at one stage, when I was trying to teach my daughter about gearing and engine braking whilst going downhill - she tried her first fairly steep short downhill section whilst ignoring my instruction and left her foot on the clutch the whole way down ... was a little bit of a heart stopping moment for me till I realized what she was doing

Coming home on Sunday morning, I was cruising down the high plains road at maybe 50klm/hr, and a young buck in a hilux, red P plate, roared past me in the gravel and stones and disappeared into the distance. I got up to the next corner and there was a great big long seat of fresh skid marks where he had overshot the apex. He was nowhere to be seen, but maybe in the bushes clearing his pants I reckon - just crazy speed.

Still remember my driver training days when the instructor drilled it into us that the left foot would be the one to kill you and by that if you took the vehicle out of gear by depressing the clutch you were essentially in the hands of the gods - never forgot that. The Disco was saved from being totally pancaked by a set of home made drawers in the back that kept the roof up it looked. Still it was a write off for sure and unfortunately he was from the ACT or at least the car was registered there, so a long way home.

Amen to that... I sure get fired up pretty quick when it happens. :210:
In the theory phase I threaten to beat 'em to death with the Learners Manual if they do it. :D
If they do it during an assessment phase they get an instant 'not yet competent'.
If they do it when operational and I see it (or even worse I am in the vehicle then I treat it as attempted murder suicide) I pull their competency until they pass a V.O.C.

Trying to see the light at the end of this never ending tunnel in regards to our council notice and the $5100 worth of work that has to be done is proving to be impossible. I have spoken with VCAT, numerous lawyers, our conveyencer, who now refuses to take my calls, and their (the vendors)conveyencer who are now doing the same, and not one person is willing to help. This is so bloody frustrating! I can see this fucking asshole who sold us the house will again win and walk away without paying a cent. Why is this issue something that no one wants to touch? Its simple in my eyes. The vendor did the wrong this by not disclosing the council notice prior to auction. Therefor he's in the wrong, he needs to pay.

Who is responsible for the building/energy and pest inspection in Vic?
Either way it should come back on the conveyancer IMO, they farked up by the sounds of it.
Don't think the vendor is responsible

Vendor is responsible. He should have said something to their estate agent but chose not too. The agent and conveyencer wouldn't have know anything about it. Its not mandatory to get building inspections done pre purchase, we did however get one done, we knew of some of the issues that council have raised, but it is beside the point. Council have gone through and want everything to have a gutters and storm water connection. Even the lean too on the granny flat which is barely 1.5m wide by 1m long. Water barely drips of it when it rains its that small.
I can see us losing this, even though we shouldn't, so I guess we'll just be ripping the roof off the carport, the pergola and the lean too and just fix the bare essentials. As we simply dont have this kind of coin to get this stuff done.

Hmm, if it's not mandatory to get the inspection done like it is in ACT and you got the building inspection done on your own accord then the conveyancer is at fault again if the inspection report was passed on to them prior to sign off.

What am I missing here? You should not be up for the cost!

No the inspection reports aren't passed onto the Conveyencer. This is done privately between the potential buyer and the building inspector. Think of if kinda like getting a car your wanting to buy checked over by a mechanic prior to purchasing. The inspector give you a report with a list of things they find.
Our conveyencer wont talk to us anyway. I told her whats happened, I got her to email the vendors conveyencer with all the details, and that was it. No return emails, no return phone calls, I then went into her office, she saw me and took off in another direction and would come out to see me.
And no. We shouldn't be up for the cost, as what the vendor has done is not right. But from the five companies I spoke to today, in trying to get some help with the matter, all said, yeah he's in the wrong, but the cost of chasing him will probably outweigh the 5k cost for repairs. Which really sucks as this means we will more than likely give up as we cant afford this, and this idiot will again, get away with something. I recently found out our first issue with the rubbish left behind that the reals estate agent ended up paying out of their own pocket for the skip. As they vendor simply said no, and would budge.
I seriously reckon if i saw this joker walking down the street I would clock him. My blood boils every time I think of this shit we are going through and I think of him. Which has been everyday so far. The stress is put on my family, my wife is stressing out big time, the kids are too as they see us talking about it the entire time as its pretty much consumed us. They know now that their promised trampoline for their birthdays isn't going to happen now. They said to us they understand, but I know they are disappointed.

We just want this to end the way it should. But just trying to get help, is a right pain. I thought of VCAT. But I don't know how much "pull" they have with this legal stuff. But its way cheaper than a lawyer. So tomorrow I will be spending my day making calls.
After all the shit we are going though. I still love where I live. And have no regrets on our purchase. Its just the scum in life that make things bad for others....
Time for another bottle of red.

Yeah we had the building and pest inspection on this place and two others. Energy is pretty much unheard of here. But we knew this place is as energy efficient as a Nasa rocket ship. Like I said, we knew of some of the issues, I have already fixed one of them myself and am in the process of starting on the next.
The issue is, the vendor has done wrong, again, and will probably get away with it. Again.

Mark. We went through a similar thing when we built our last place.

We got f@$ked over by the system. VCAT will only place an order, then it's up to you to chase the a$$holes. Even the Sheriff's department was useless and everything has to be served. It was over 10 years ago now, but still pisses me off every time I think about it. We lost so much.

All I can suggest is do what you need to and try not to stress out.
Unfortunately the system protects the scumbags.

Another camping rant but I took the kids out today to Toolangi on the hunt for a good spot to camp.

Found beautiful hidden spots on the river which had glass everywhere, broken camp chairs, burnt camp chairs, rubbish and human shit and paper scattered 10m from sites.

We're going to lose our little local spots one day!

That make me rage too. I posted up a pic on the Aussie 4wd Tracks Vic FB page of a camp ground that some dickheads decided to make their personal donut pad. Absolutely torn this place apart. While most agreed with me, there was the few that posted up comments and obviously dont give a rats and do this stuff themselves.

Yeah not sure bud. I doubt it though. Theres a lot of water than needs to be run off. I've started the demo of where the new pipes need to be laid. Had to remove a heap of tree's that I didn't want to remove. And I have a few more that I need to remove too so I will get stuck into these soon. Then starting digging the trenches. Not looking forward to this part. But the more I do the cheaper its gonna be for me.

I'll have to look around. I live in Lancefield and there are a few Patrol owners we know in the area.
My son figured he could as easily on-sold the wheels post the roadie anyway.
I told gumtree why I was exiting their 'no-service' system. It's because there is no accountability in gumtree that people can get away with that sort of behaviour. Most people if you contact them will honour a commitment to sell <rant off>.

Yep agree with you all and at the end of the day it comes down to honesty. People say they're going to do something and renegging on the deal. The more ways that have been made available for people to buy and sell makes it available to more tyrekickers. Just go to a swap meet or have a garage sale to experience that side of it.

Was about 150 k south of Birdsville (heading to the Mungerannie pub) and it just stopped - like we had run out of fuel. Managed to get it restarted a few times and got within 25 k of the pub and could not get any further so got towed by a mate (toyota !!!!) to the pub. Lots of opinions re the problem but had to get the RAA to recover the car and trailer.
Best advise I can give is get premium cover from these guys. So they took the car to Copley and they spent 1/2 day trying to get it going but no joy so it got taken back to a shop in Lonsdale (south of Adelaide).
Had to replace the fuel pump, the high pressure one, expensive one. They also reckon the rail should be replaced and the injectors could do with help as well. Always seem to having problems so I have traded it on a new car.
BUT it is still very hard to start so I hope they don't check trade-ins too much on the handover.

Cookies have a good reputation in Copley but anything to do with injector pumps these days and that's the response you will get .
They tried to fix mine from leaking and only charged $60 but gave me the option of just keep going or get it replaced so I chose to keep going which was fine being direct injection and where it was leaking from we did about 3000ks like that but cut the trip short a week early .

Don't gin around with it! Bloke at work ended up on life support for a couple of weeks when he ignored it, they gave him a 50/50 chance of pulling through at one stage. That was a few months ago and he is still recovering. He is no spring chicken (70) but he was pretty fit and healthy beforehand. He was coughing in the morning and at work, but by the afternoon he was in an ambulance and on life support within hours.

Well, it seems we have a mouse/rat plague at our house. EWWW.

Can't afford an exterminator, and allergic to cats. Going to buy the baits from Bunnings, apparently throwing them in the roof is the best option (we have a 15 month old).

Does that mean I'll have a whole bunch of dead mice to cleanup in the roof later? Still rather do that than have the little fockers crawling around pooing on everything. One jumped in my partners coffee last night, and I swear one crawled on my forehead when I was asleep the other night... The amount of poo cleaning and surface cleaning we are doing at the moment to try and keep our 15 month old safe from rat poo etc is ridiculous.

Not good mate. I haven't had a plague but have had two occurrences over 8 years here where I had one or two meecies running amok. I originally bought the throw bags and never even had one chewed! The good ol' mouse trap, set really really finely (set the trigger right on the leading edge micron!) and baited with peanut butter worked every time for me. Don't set the trigger right to the back as the mice are really delicate during their peanut butter raids and will get a free feed from you. I generally didn't snap any on the first night, but second night onwards was a snapping good time!

And don't do what I did once. I'd just caught a mouse and thrown it in the bin, then re-bait the trap for next victim. Opened a new jar of peanut butter, dunked the knife and applied the bait to the (used) trap. Needed a bit more PB so dunked the knife in again to get some more. D'oh!! New jar of PB into the bin after that!

I've had success with an old school trap.
Get an empty wine bottle or long neck,
Fill one third with water,
Put a piece of cheese or bread sticking out of the neck,
Wipe top couple of inches of neck with butter to make it slippery.
Lay bottle down on bench or table with neck sticking out over edge.
Place half full bucket of water on floor under neck of bottle.
Mouse tries to get cheese, slips on butter and falls in water and drowns.
Will keep catching mice until bucket is full.

I used to get mice in the house all the time but I now have a couple of Rodent Bait Boxes outside and as long as I keep the baits topped up I never get them inside now.
Have had rats in the roof and used some throw baits which worked for me and never had any smell afterwards.

baited with peanut butter worked every time for me. Don't set the trigger right to the back as the mice are really delicate during their peanut butter raids and will get a free feed from you.

Add to the above :
Wrap a small-ish lacky band around the trigger a number of times to make a "mesh" to hold the peanut butter, and put the PB on the underside of the trigger as well - harder for them to get to = higher catch rate.
I also put a bit of the leftover oil from the PB onto the end of the pin too, just to ensure it goes off easily.
Then you just need to find a safe place to set it away from the prying fingers of the youngun'...

Thanks everyone. My partner has just gone down to the big green shed and dropped fifty bucks on various poisons, traps, and an electrical gizmo. I get the fun job of climbing into the roof and throwing the things around.

Guessing for most of them, I can just throw them around the roof? Or do I need to place them more strategically?

Hopefully they all work sooner rather than later. I cant shake this 'yuck' feeling off me. Ironically, I'll happily camp up to a week with no shower, but just knowing there's mice in the house repulse me.

Just be careful the rodents/ possums don't relocate the baits. We found a few possums writhing on the ground the day after I threw baits into the roof space. They had dragged some baits with them, and it was by sheer luck they dropped them on the outside of the fence, away from the dogs.

I just read what I wrote. It sounds like we were after the possums. They were an unfortunate by-kill. We have blocked off their entry point into the roof, and built some nests for them since then. I use traps for the rats now, baited with a bit of salami which is held in place with a bit of copper wire. The rich aroma drags rats in from quite a distance.

Poison bait is a very bad idea. There will be unintended victims and then the rats in immense pain end up die in places that are impossible to reach and end up with the deadly smell for months.
Avoid poison and use traps.
There always are four legged solutions like having a female cat. The best solution IMO.

Any animal that eats those dead rats will die as well. That includes native eagles, other birds of prey, etc etc. And not to mention the pet dogs & cats end up munching on those dead or dying rats also end up dead. Pretty bad idea to use poison.

Use the throw baits and wax blocks in the shed and roof , have done for years , yes it makes the rats/ mice thirsty they go looking for water outside and die .
Have three semi useless and one excellent mouse ,snake , rabbit catching cat and so far it's only been the big brown snake that has affected it , when the mice are about it's nothing to see it eat about four a day .

In SA we are allowed to use cat traps in our backyards and can borrow them free from the council. I don't need to borrow one as I have my own. <img src="http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=72608"/>

Yes we can get cages free from the council to trap cats too but it has to be done after dark and using one of those traps will get you into a heap of trouble .

Haha, we don't have any young kids on our street currently, bloody lot of cats though and for some reason they love our back yard.
Have caught them getting into the bin by the BBQ and leaving a mess and they shit everyware.
My dog is 14 and can't be bothered chassing them any more.

As much as I hate them I would not really kill someones pet.

Unfortunately I think I may have mate a while ago. I do love all animals although when they're (cats) are up one of our property trees tormenting fauna I deemed a quick sharp painless head shot justice :-(
No owners tag, but a useless neck bell was found on the 30' drop :-(

Don't get me started on cats!! This place is crawling with ferals that come from town and the forest. We often find the remains of native birds in the paddocks. Lead Aspros do the trick.

Whatever you do, don't get a cat. They will kill far more native birds and animals than thet will mice and rats.
Cats should be banned from Australia.

Good luck with that.
There are more feral cats than people in Australia. It's bit too late to ban them.
More practical idea is to pass laws to issue hefty fines to people who let them out after dark and people who abandon them.
Yes, it should be illegal to own a cat without desexing & registering them.
My cat(s) had no chance of killing anything native 'cos it stays indoors.
Cats are not the problem, people are.

Had the irony of a neighbour saving a cat from euthanasia at the local pound, only to let it wander free. Found it hunting the native birds in our backyard - so how many animals did that person actually save???
Makes them feel good I 'spose as long as they don't let themselves see the 'externalities'...

Yes, I see. It comes back to what I was referring to in my previous comment. Cats are not the problem, people are.
If we can get our polies to pass tough laws to prevent such imbecile behaviour by good-hearted people, that will be a good start.
Save a cat/dog from death row in the pound by all means. It is a humane thing what makes us human(probably).
But, keep them indoors or contain in area where they can't roam around and slaughter native wildlife if they are allowed outside.
Both are easily doable.
Feral animal problem is a huge problem in Australia. Cats are just the tip of the iceberg.
I don't see any chance of us fixing the problem.
We are too busy with our jobs, families, cars, etc etc.

You can trap the cat and warn the owner or handover to the local council.
You can borrow a trapping cage from local council/shire or buy a one for thirty bucks.

Just make sure you're home to attend the trapped cat.
It cost money for the owner to retrieve the cat from the local pound, so it is a lesson, for starters.

I am allergic to cats as well. I bathe the cat(s) once a week or so and trim their fur coat.
It appears to be working 'cos the cat doesn't get to drop dander everywhere.

Yep understand the frustration, paid ours off leaving a $1 balance, so the line of credit remained and no early exit fee. Just have to be ahead of the game a bit and play them at the same game. No doubt when we pull the pin here and downsize, we will get hit with the same frustration you are experiencing,.
