Got all my ducks lines up and I'm heading out for a day looking for timber to collect. Gonna make it to a dawn service up near Millgrove on the way which will be good to get to then on to the bush. All chains sharpened, batteries charged, petrol sorted and I even got my car compressor working in the event I need to air down (or the trailer up) gonna be good to get into it.

Scavenge a few chooks and fence them off around the pile of infested wood for a few days. Termites be gone, and you get a roast chook in the end.
Do it all the time with termited power sticks we cut up.

Port of Geelong Hodgey. Lots of large freight comes in and out of here. Often wind turbines, sometimes huge transformers or other mining stuff, have seen oil rigs come in for refit, and other massive stuff. Today the air cranes were in. Yeah maybe dismantling and readying for return to northern hemisphere. I was surprised they were still here to be honest.

Good on you Winnie, the last big deck I built I did the holes by hand, but was younger and stronger then, not today, someone else can do it and all I have to do is lift the index finger and punch the phone to transfer the money. How did you go operating the digger - first time or used it before - might have a requirement on the new block for one.

With a very evil grin I agreed for the Supercrap bloke to "fit" the globes for $10 after he offered...
For those who know the back of the GU headlights, know the pain and misery of getting those globes in and out.
10 minutes later and assistance from the other members in-store, they caved in. Wasn't happening.
Anyways back home. Grille off, 10mm socket, 10 minutes and job was done. 3 x 10mm bolts on each headlight. Undo, pull forward, full access to everything. How I've always been doing it!

get to work this morning. Patrol is covered in black goo, take a sniff, diesel oil. All up the inside of the guards, sprayed up the rear of the vehicle.
Heck, what's let go me thinks.
look further, more oil, not so much on the passenger side.
look further, it's sprayed up the front of the front wheel arch.
Me thinks, hmm, that really can't happen, it should all be blown backwards, not to the front of the front wheel arch.
Down on knees, dry as a desert underneath.
Then I thinks, remember that B double parked on the side of the road, no one around, middle of nowhere, I bet he's blown a hose.

Productive day out powelltown way, collected a great load of timber, with zero rot and I don't believe any termites. I'm not sure what timber it is though, it's nice and dense, but far paler in colour almost straw-like than the goldish or pinky messmate I normally find. Hopefully good burning!http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/05/87.jpg

Hahhahaa mudnut that’s a pisser . Years ago when I had my big tree trimmer machine I was working away & watching an old bloke ( 80 odd ) trying to light the big pile I’d heaped up - he was gingerly try to splash a bit of fuel in a plastic 20lt container towards the smouldering fire , I watched him do this 3-4 times so I came over - full of bravado & said ‘let me do that for ya’ , before he could say a word I’d grabbed the container & splashed a heap of it towards the fire & it hit the flame & exploded - launching me a couple of metres backwards arse over tit . When I regained composure & smelled the drum I said ‘fuck me mate that’s petrol ! ‘ he looked at me with a wry smile & said “ why do you think I was being so careful lad “ hahaha I’ll never forget that

Hope the healing process goes ganbusters for ya matey...

I had a similar issue with my gall bladder a couple of years ago, went in for a quickie keyhole surgery and one night stay to remove said gall bladder.
They opened the keyhole, took one look and ended up 7 hours on the table, right side of chest opened up and over a week in hospital but all good now.

After I serviced the Patrol , gave the engine bay a quick wash / clean , a "rattly" noise developed several days later ... It sounded like it was a loose bolt rattling around somewhere on the engine side of the firewall. Sometimes it sounded like it was even under the dash somewhere ...But it happened only in certain rev ranges and under load.
Drove me around the twist !
I checked and re-checked every bolt and any thing I could get my hands onto.
I nailed the f#*ker before !!
It ended up being the intercooler outlet hose rubbing/squeaking against another bit of rubber sitting on the intercooler bracket ! From inside the car I could've sworn on my life it was just a loose bolt as thats exactly what it sounded like!! Must've created a dry spot when I washed around there.
Bit of Inox and she's all good now.
Ahhh what a relief that was. Made my week!! That's how bad it was !!
Happy thread. Weekend is here. Stubby 'o clock !

Yep. Ice just waters it down and hides the flavours. I admit this one needs a pre warm up spirit first because of the high ABV. It’s got some punch. Next time we meet I’ll have to bring a bottle.

Sent from my SM-G986B using TapatalkAll fallen/taken from within 100m from my place mate. I've probably taken less than 25% too. We have had alot of trees come down in our street. Big ones too.

Have you had any experience with mana gum for burning? I've burnt the messmate I've got plenty(Burns reasonable imho) but never had the opportunity to light up the other

Finally after 30 years of pain Im having an Op at the end of the month
to block the nerves that cause my pain,
First I received an email saying the were having no liability for my back
That broke me , only to receive A call to say they were sorry and in fact
the nerve block had been approved WTF A person who has had a recent
injury might have reacted differently
Hope all goes well Ive had similar procedures when fitting a spinal cord stimulator
So bring on the 29th of jult also fingers crossed

I won 280 1500x70x15 messmate planks at an auction. Went down to pick them up and it was a commercial hardwood saw mill. Had a chat with the owner and ended up driving away with another two packs. All mismatched timbers, grains and sizes but perfect for what I'm going to do with them. The packs contained various pieces of Ironbark, greygum, Redgum, West Australian karri, and others I can't remember. Also in it are some fiddle back timbers, from which species I do not know. Looking forward to finally having material to produce stuff with again!http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/47.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/48.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/49.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/50.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/51.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/52.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/07/53.jpg

Doesn't look like much in the photos but this arvo after work I knocked up this stand and holder for my fridge in the tools box in my ute tray. I needed to raise the fridge 50mm to bring it to a more convenient height, and stop it from sliding around in the box. One off cut off solid aluminium later and this is the end result.

I located where I did to clear the locking mechanism at the front and to give me access and protection to the loom for the fridge and lighting in the box and tray.

Very productive arvo.

See the light thru the panel boards, did you bother rebating frame for panel boards or just fix to back?

What track did you buy (ebay)?

Making mine out of red iron bark (external) and some black cypress (internal).

No mate, I didn't want the extra work. They are just glued and screwed together. At the end of the day the light through it is from an automatic sensor light that goes off after 2 mins. If it really ends up bothering me I'll glue a sheet of 3mm onto the back of it.

Track is from Bunnings, comes as a kit, the only extra thing I needed was a track joiner to join two kits together.

Mmm those timbers will come up amazing mate! Looking forward to seeing the end result

Edit: for what it's worth, each door is costing me about $30 to make, If they warp or buckle I'll just make another, I have enough timber to make about 10 doors. I Know I should do it properly but time is a factor here and if I spend lo get doing it now, it will just drag out other jobs on my list to do

You spelt it right! How good are those Glencairn glasses?! I have some home made port from red wine that was too far gone. Been "brewing" for the better part of 4 years mixed with Bourbon and chopped up mars bars. Yes! Oh the flavours!

Making my own Whiskey is on my agenda. Just gotta fit in with life at the moment.

I am suprised how good this has turned out after just a year, being a small barrel it has more contact to the oak per volume, also the barrel had stored port for about 10 years so that really adds to the flavour.
I love drinking out of the Glencairn glasses, really focuses the aroma.

Has a nice 15,000kms on it. I'm stoked with it. Needs some cleaning up but only cos it's been sitting not ridden for a few years. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/08/154.jpg

Yep she comes home Wednesday, but the old Covid bubble thing is going to make it difficult with visitations at the beginning - probably just my wife to get over there for now under the care and support umbrella - which she has been doing for the last 4 months anyway. Like most babies the one thing she has fully developed is the LUNGS!!!

I got offered a new job today, which I will accept.

I've spent the last 11 years working for an Industrial electrical and Automation contractor and I'm moving into a similar field but with more real instrumentation exposure, which I do have a interest in. My fairly vast heavy industry experience means I should be able fit in nicely at this new job

I know Rum is not your poison Mark Mate but keen to gauge your thoughts on a “make an offer” our little bottle shop was kindly helping/seeking for an undisclosed local in desperate need looking to start sadly selling the first lot of their pride and joy collection apparently:

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/08/198.jpg

I nuffy suggested the owner should try online Gumtree or the like but tonight found them 101’s might have some serious worth?
