I know Rum is not your poison Mark Mate but keen to gauge your thoughts on a “make an offer” our little bottle shop was kindly helping/seeking for an undisclosed local in desperate need looking to start sadly selling the first lot of their pride and joy collection apparently:

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/08/198.jpg

I nuffy suggested the owner should try online Gumtree or the like but tonight found them 101’s might have some serious worth?

https://www.nicks.com.au/bundaberg-101-rum-700ml

Any suggestions for them to maximise their unfortunate return Brother ? [emoji120]

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

From a collector point of view. Anything that is sold on line will be over market price three fold. I have many bottles in my collection that I paid say $150 for. At an online shop the will be selling for over triple. Put it this way a bottle of JD, it’s their flagship top of the range bottle called Sinatra Century. I paid $600 for it. I can easily sell it online for circa 2k. And I was going to crack this open and drink it for my dads 80th last year. Only to be told not too as it’s not even that nice.
So if they want top dollar go by online pricing. If they want to move them. Join a FB page for BRum. They should move them quick through there.

Otherwise, tell them I’d give them $500 for the lot. Cold hard cash!

You won't need to convert me mate. I love my Scotch Whisky just as much, aswell as Irish, Australian, Japanese etc etc. Just because I prefer one style of Whisk(e)y does not mean I don't enjoy all and just stick to one.
I recently got onto Texan Bourbon. Because of the warmer climate, the distilling process gives a real different flavour profile and ABV. I love trying different Whisk(e)y's from all over the world.

Just a few of my other favourites.

Just spoke with the Dealer. the Y62 is ready to go. Due to Covid lockdowns i have opted to have ti Trucked to my door from Adelaide rather than fly over and drive home.. $514 shipping to my door!!. Bargain. and will arrive with a full tank of fuel so there is a significant saving having it shipped rather than fly drive. Stoked. Should see it next week.

I drove the Patrol to work today. 25k there and back of suburban driving. Fark me! It’s actually a joy to drive it! It’s never gone so good. The different setup with the boost controller has obviously done the engine good. Way less soot and boost is coming on a lot earlier and holding it high in the revs too.
It’s a whole new beast to drive now.

That's because you are using a proper boost tee instead of a needle valve. A needle valve will always allow flow through unless it is completely closed. So effectively you were always slowly bleeding to your wastegate and having it open before it should have been. The turbosmart one is like a relief valve. You are adjust the spring tension to an opening point. Once this point is reached the valve opens and allows the wastegate to open and control boost. This has its limitations and is why electronic controllers are so good.

Thanks Mat, makes sense.

Another thing mate. Speaking with a customer of mine he suggesting to have the boost supply to the Tee on its own and NOT have it sharing supply with the injector pump. This way the compensator will get "actual" boost signal, not a shared signal which may be incorrect due the the controller bleeding off.

Sound right to you.

It will most likely be right. I, myself always like to have each thing have its own supply and also be supplied from closest to what's being fed into the engine. So usually in the intake manifold. As you have will be fine.

Bought a new little toy today, just waiting for the ticket to come through so I can pick it up. It's a Ruger American .22 for a bit of bunny busting and plinking fun.

Had a lever action, 9 magazine Ruger .22 magnum for many years. Sold it when we left Callignee South. Was a lovely little gun. Only thing was that the magnum shells made a loud bang & alerted all the other bunnies. Low velocity .22 shells would have been better. Good for foxes though.

My journey is almost mirror image, went to the Doc and blood pressure too high, overweight fat bastard, 105kg. Lose weight or else was the command. I started exercising during this latest 4 month lockdown and combined with no grog for the last 3 yrs, am down to 92kg, blood pressure on the money, look like I can get off the blood pressure pills as well, so That you Covid lockdown. Interesting the different outcomes eh?

Managed to find the time to upgrade my battery bank to how it should have been done the first time. Scored the wires all crimped and heat shrunk for $5 per pair. Upgraded all wires to fuse and heavenly devices to suitable wires and also fitted a mini VSR to exclusively run my inverter. Now the inverter can only be on while car is running but can also be manually switched off. The inverter will run from the alternator rather than drawing power from the second battery via alternator charge. Works brilliantly and cost me less than $100http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/10/144.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/10/145.jpg

Nic, nice setup. I also run a large inverter(3500W) and battery bank (390a/h). I have a large alternator as well (300a/180a at idle). I find I use the battery bank feed to the inverter to charge small items like battery chargers for the makita chainsaw, without the alternator feed, but need the alternator running for other power tools or the coffee machine, I would say in the main the alternator runs most of the time as the current draw without the alternator top up depletes the battery bank too quickly. I certainly cant run the coffee machine for long without the alternator assist for example. If you can still run the inverter off the main bank for the small items you might get some flexibility. What size alternator is in the vehicle? For extended running of 240V power tools, if you need to go that way, that could be your limiting factor - being inability to top up the depleted charge.

Simple numbers, ignoring efficiency losses.

2400W = 240V x 10a, so converting to 12V power supply, 2400w = 12V x 200a (200amp is the draw on your battery bank, so 120a alternator would not cut that load), hence the load comes out of the reserve in the battery bank, not the alternator. Battery voltage drops, alternator tops it up, but as you can see in this example, the gap of 80a (200 V 120a) leads to an eventual flattening of the battery.

Finally got our power back on, about a day and a half with no power due to a tree taking out the neighbors power line to their house. With the line ending pretty much at their doorstep. So they couldn’t get or or in their house.
Lucky I had the fridge in the Patrol on standby.

Stupid thing is. Our power was restored and the power line still lying over the road and across their front yard and driveway! Rang SES, they said they won’t touch it. Rang our wholesaler, was on hold for near two hours. Only to be told it was reported yesterday, when the power was off. Then all of a sudden, fireys turn up lights and sirens, then the cops.
I think the house owners that were trapped in their house had enough and rang 000.
But putting power back on with a power line still down? Think they forgot this one… lol

Just got back from a very much needed sneaky High Country Trip. A group of mates that have been apart for nearly 2 years. We headed to a secret spot only known to a few but is God's Country on top of the World.

I was lucky enough to find 4 days to kick back. Sitting around the fire with some of my best mates, mate I met here, 7 blokes at the fire on Saturday night. 5 cars, 3 cars winched into camp.

I took about 10 photos in 4 days. Most I won't post here, a few good men might post 1 or 2 though.

One of the more surreal things of the weekend was seeing my beloved Rufus being man handled by this bloke. He might be addicted to Induction Noise and Turbo Spool.

Cheeky bugger, Grinning from ear to ear.

Been down at Wiseleigh and mapped out the block building envelope. Unfortunately found that 2/5 of the building envelope has a significant ground flow water runoff from the paddock above, so have pegged that out and now looking to position the house on the remainder. Whacked some trees in, with a perimeter protection fence, and the next door neighbour is running 20 cows on the block to keep the grass down. Its getting real.

Had a busy day today at home. Got up, drove to Yarra Glen to pick up the whacker for the crushed rock I laid last week. Decided to get a trailer load of lawn mix soil while I was there. Got back home, whacker the shite out of the rock. Emptied the soil from the trailer, went back to Yarra Glen to return the whacker, decided to get a load of mulch and lawn seed. Got home, spread the soil and seeded it, laid out the mulch and had left overs so did topped up another garden bed to the right of the pic. Cleaned everything up. Sitting back having a bevie now.

It’s not ideal to do all this work as all this is temporary, but looks a ship load better than the two piles of crap that was there.

Tomorrow I’ll lay out some bluestone blocks I have around where the crushed rock is to make it look a bit nicer. Got family over at lunch so can’t get much done tomorrow.

Big thanks to MB for the assistance. Slowly the place is looking less like a building site. Love it!!!

A young couple, I know, went walking along a rough coastal area not far from here. The young buck decided to climb down a cliff. Part way down he came across an injured, emaciated dog. After leading the dog to the beach, the couple helped it climb up. They took it home, washed, fed it and put a post about the poor thing on social media. Overjoyed a family almost immediately replied and picked up their pet, which greeted them enthusiastically. It turns out it was lost for a week and the family had been searching for it everyday!

Statement issued by Shooters Union of Australia...17th Dec.
PATENT ISSUE LOCKS AFFORDABLE LEVER-RELEASE SHOTGUNS AWAY FROM AUSSIE SHOOTERS *

AUSTRALIAN shooters are being denied access to new firearms technology at an affordable price, as a patent infringement claim on lever-release shotguns has resulted in all major importers cancelling their orders of the BA-X12 “Bushmeister” shotgun.

Within a day of the announcement of the customs regulations being amended to allow the import of lever-release shotguns, and the accompanying announcement from Nioa they were importing an affordable design using the tech, another entity made it known through industry sources that the Bushmeister design infringed on patents held by another manufacturer.

As a result, Nioa have cancelled orders for several thousand of the BA-X12 shotguns, and have stated the project is on hold indefinitely as they simply don’t know when the design issues can be rectified.

In a statement provided to Shooters Union, the Firearms Dealers Association of Queensland – who were strongly involved alongside SIFA, Nioa and Shooters Union in getting the guns cleared for import – said they were not impressed by the sudden turn of events.

“It’s a shame this new technology that’s just been federally approved with the help of importers like Nioa and groups like SU is now being blocked from import by potential patent issues.

“To the best of our knowledge, the entity involved was not substantially involved in the fight for recategorising these guns, and at no point flagged a potential patent issue with us or our import partners until after the approval.

“As you can imagine with multiple importers being able to bring this technology to Australia, the designs using it were going to retail for less than $1000 per gun. Limiting the number of importers will only mean a significantly more expensive product available here, disadvantaging shooters as a result.”

The FDAQ also said they had been advised by other importers planning to bring in similar designs that they had cancelled those orders as well.

We at Shooters Union are disgusted that years of hard work at Commonwealth level appears to have been undone in a day by parties that were – to the best of our knowledge – not involved in securing the import changes necessary to bring straight-pull shotguns to the Australian market.

The changes allowing lever-release shotguns to be imported represented the first real acknowledgement by the Commonwealth Government that Australian shooters did not have to
be restricted to firearms technology from the 1930s or earlier, so having that rug pulled out from under us by members of the firearms industry itself hurts even more.

We understand it could take literally years to sort out the design/patent issues around the lever-release system in the BA-X12 shotguns (and similar designs from other factories) and the only real winners from it will likely be the lawyers.

We’ll keep you updated as the saga progresses, but for now: Don’t go trading in your lever-action or straight-pull shotguns just yet.

To clarify: We have zero financial interest in which brands of shotgun are available or who is importing them.

We're just extremely disappointed at the industry's apparent inability to come together to celebrate a real success for the shooting community, and at the end of the day the average shooter is the one who loses.

I made a decent start into splitting up wood for winter, it's been sitting on the ground since June and I haven't had the time. Home isolation has its perks I guess. I have a fair way to go though lol84927

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkHey mate, I'm feeling betterish, still have a killer migraine and constant nausea, Tegan on the other hand spent most of the day sleeping. I was in the splitter with Lacey during Aiden naps and took care of the kids for the most part the rest of the day. I definitely feel like some Fresh air, vitamin d and sweating it out helped me feel better.

Bit of an unfortunate situation turns into a win for me. Contractors on one of my jobs that I was returning site for have come down with Covid, so job cancelled. Second job 'could' go the same way, so I am not required on site in Jan/Feb - happy with that, both jobs delayed until Oct 1 at earliest.

You are the 2nd person who I have seen posting pics of Bunya nuts, the others hadn't eaten any when they posted so were unsure what they were like. Do you know? Are they an 'oily' nut like say macadamias? Or what other sort of nut are they most like?

I do eat them. I really like them but not people many do. Hard to describe the taste but they are sort of waxy if boiled, but less so if baked or roasted when they are a lot dryer and harder. They are not oily. A bit like roasted almonds.
You do have to work to get to eat them - first to get them out of the large cone, then cook them the way you prefer, then getting them out of the shell which is very tough but not crackable like many other nuts.
Grab some and give them a go some time - surprised you haven't already with all your adventures. I believe there are some up in the wet tropics but more so in the SE corner of Qld but you might have trouble with the weather up your way at the moment.

Vendor who sold me two 12v in-line diesel heater that leaked from start up agreed to refund me the cost, without return of unit, took 20 photos and a video and getting Paypal involved. Currently waiting on the replacement heater from the US to arrive so hope the outcome is better.

Chinese site, made out to look like it's made in USA but ultimately isn't, vvkb.com, if the lift pump was not in play I suspect the unit would be fine as when I pulled the first one apart to see if I could find the source of the leak, the seals are silastic or glue, not rubber and there are three elements sandwiched together including the mount bracket using the one set of screws. I have 12psig at idle and it starts leaking at start up, almost instantly. If there was no lift pump it would probably be ok. The brand is simatic I believe, there is a photo of it in one of my posts, either what I bought or did today or not happy perhaps? Customer service was pretty good up two the failure of the second unit, then got bogged down. Root issue is their spec does not preclude it's use with a lift pump or within the pressure size of the fuel delivery and should have a positive pressure limitation.

Once again we are pinching ourselve at our good fortune. Each time a desirable opportunity arises to have a more 'in-depth experience' that cannot be had by travelling alone, it serves to confirm the gut feeling we had when we commenced travelling, that taking our time & travelling slowly would flush out such opportunities & we have no reason to pass them by as we don't have to be anywhere at any time. We had been thinking of leaving the Cape at the end of this wet season, possibly heading west to Arnhem Land, but an opportunity that few people would ever get has arisen & we are grabbing it with both hands.

We have accepted a 12 month caretaking role at the Iron Range Research Station confirmed for when we finish up here at Moreton at the end of the wet. We certainly never set out to do any house sits/caretaking gigs back to back, nor to seek anything for as long as a year, but when an opportunity to live hidden away in the middle of probably the richest flora & fauna hotspot in Australia arose, we couldn't say no. We will be living in a modern off grid house surrounded by 800 acres of privately owned rainforest, which in turn is surrounded by the entire Iron Range rainforest.

Previously we have spent time in the Iron Range rainforest - day visiting, but expect to see far more living right in it & with access to rarely visited habitats.

Much of the time we'll be there alone, but will get occasional visits from an assortment of researchers & ecologists who want to study something or other in the unique ecosystem for a week or two at a time. Essentially 2 modern self contained houses with a shared outside undercover 'tropical kitchen & sealed food storage room. plus a few other storage buildings. Us in one house , visitors in the other. Although not far from Lockhart River Community the place is completely hidden away & can't be seen from any road , nor found on satellite imagery.

The 'job' shouldn't be too arduous or time consuming & is essentially voluntary, although we will get paid a stipend which will cover our living expenses & make our stay there 'cost neutral', plus all utilities & satellite internet included.
