I made a coffee table from some red gum 200 x 50 and 100 x 100 red gum gate posts.
Laser cut some gothic looking brackets . looks ok to me
hard bit was chiselling out the 100 x 100 holes.
A guy up Alice makes outdoor furniture fron the old Ghan sleepers
and boy do they look awesome sanded back and clear coated 100yr plus as a sleeper and
maybe another 200yrs as a tree

I wish you all the luck AB ! Me and the missus went through the same adventures ...
Benjamin would just not fall asleep on his own, and would wake up every 40 minutes (sleep cycle) on the dot. This kid was more time accurate than an Olympic stop watch. This went on for about 4-5 months after trying a lot of things... If he had a continued sleep longer than an hour, it was like winnig lotto! Eventually we were on the brink insanity and attempted controlled crying. It worked... for a little while. Then the nightmare returned as he went back to the same routine. We eventually found out he was allergic to dairy, so obviously this has been making him uncomfortable for a long time and we didn't know... So we cut that out and hoped he would now sleep etc... It was not the case.

When he was about a year and a half old (this time last year), we decided it's time for sleep school, after procrastinating on it for a long time... I really hope where your family is going is better then what we went through.
We went to Tweddle sleep school in Footscray. Nice people, nice place but their practices were flawed... We were in this room, and the corridor next to our room had 4 other rooms. So at least 1 kid is crying their lungs out at any given time. So in turn this wakes up the other 4, and it was a viscous cycle for the whole 2 days. Not a single person in there got any sleep whatsoever, and more importantly the kids learnt sweet f*&% all about self settling and re-settling... On the 3rd day 3 families decided this is far worse than at home so we left as well.

Things are now better, but we are co-sleeping for second part of the night. So everyone gets 8-9 hours sleep at least, but we have to wake up sometime during night and go get him and bring him to bed. Co-sleeping was last resort, but it worked!

Hope things work out for you mate.

We must have been lucky as we never had trouble of either of our Girls.

They both were put to sleep in a bassinet in the room where we were with the TV and talking going on.
When we went to bed they were put in their own bedroom.
There was no be quiet as the baby was sleeping and it worked for us.
Whenever they did wake up and try it on they were spoken to sternly and left to cry themselves to sleep.(Even as babies)

As I said we were lucky that they were both good kids as they took after their Dad LOL

Well well, the GQ heater duct and heater
module designer wasn't a complete
mongrel after all. I had to start stripping
the centre of the dash to retrieve a
silver ring and the inspection camera
hook. With the centre panel out I
was able to undo the bottom
plate off the heater.

The inspection camera revealed
that there is a sort of a catchment
area below the heater core.
I found the ring, the hook, a 12volt
plug, a plastic skeleton foot and
a heap of Beachport sand.
The entry into the catchment is a
bastard to negotiate.
The camera's magnet grabbed
the hook.
I made a vacuum
hose out of 3/8 petrol hose and
taped it to the camera. It easily
sucked up the sand. I added a
larger diameter end, and it
grabbed the plug.
I also made another hook
which grabbed the foot
and the ring.
It took me 7 hours but
it's done. YAY!

Feeling a bit pleased with myself. It’s been a while since I did any woodwork & have spent much of the past week knocking up a new workbench for the new shed, having decided that step one of fitting out the shed needs to be the establishment of the workshop section. Walking between old & new sheds multiple times to do just about anything because tools/machinery are spread between the two was wearing very thin. So first a new workbench, then some power & lights for the workshop are the current agenda.

This was my ‘detailed’ plan for the bench on a piece of scrap paper. Mostly in my head following the usual ‘Cuppa’s making it up as you go along’ model. :)

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/07/44.jpg

And this was the outcome

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/07/45.jpg

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/07/46.jpg

6 metres long. Frame & legs all 90 x 45 ‘merchant grade’ pine studs - except for leg where vice will fit - a section of 100 x 100 verandah post I kept when replacing one which was rotted out at both ends. Bench tops are yellow tongue flooring with additional crossbracing underneath. Wall backboard & shelf is 12mm ply attached to 90 x 45 timber.

And this is my new favourite tool. (The whole thing is only screwed together (used around 700 screws!) to allow for dismantling should I ever want to move it elsewhere. Solid as!)

Possibly TD. Will decide once higher budgetary priorities are taken care of.
Having been accustomed to getting timber for next to nothing back on the farm I’m still in a state of shock over the cost of timber. Believe it or not there is over $600 of materials in that bench!

Too early to tell as I only finished building it today & haven’t used it for anything more than a ’shelf’ yet.
It’s a lot heavier than ply & quite rigid on it’s own, but I added additional cross members underneath it which I screwed the top to, to make it as rigid & ‘bounce free’ as I could. It’s also perfectly flat & warp free. I think it will work well. The top surface has some sort of wax impregnation to give it a degree of waterproofing (designed to sit out in the elements for up to 3 months whilst a house is being built. It feels like quite a hard surface which I think will be quite durable, certainly a lot more so than ordinary chipboard. I plan to use it as is & think it will cope well but if I find after a while that the surface does deteriorate it would be easy enough to cover it.

Cost wise - if money were no object I’d probably choose 150mm thick seasoned hardwood strips laminated together & covered with metal or laminex sheet but I didn’t want to take out a mortgage! The yellow tongue was $42 for sheets 3600 x 900 x 19mm - 2 per bench with enough left over to make a couple of shelves elsewhere & a couple of doors for the ‘cupboard’ I’ve built to house the water pump. You can get the same flooring in thicker section too - Red tongue =22mm & Blue Tongue =25mm but it would be *very* heavy to work with. We (wife & I) ripped the length of our 19mm sheets on my old Triton saw bench & I’m really not sure we’d have managed it any heavier.

I've made a few work benches over the years the best one was 50 x 50 x 6 angle iron. It had a lower lockable section a big under top drawer
the top I inverted the angle and filled with 25mm timber x 2 then clamped and welded a sheet of 3mm steel on top, for electrical work
a piece of rubber matting up one end worked a treat. Wish I had it now, The one I made for home is made from 50 x 50 x2 rhs with 3mm top
solid as.

I used to have my own Cabinet Making business with a production staff of 20. All my benches had Yellow Tongue bench tops. It's flat, it's strong. It's durable. Perfect for the job.

Obviously if you want to do a heap of welding then something else would suit.

I used to lay 12mm MDF over the work stations though as they got a workout and would swap them out every year or so to freshen thing up. Production runs are a little more demanding though.

As is the case with all of the great lighting setups out there, just have to hope that something doesn't jump out when your lights are on low beam (which is a large % of the time anyway). Looks good though.

I think it would be a rare ocassion when all lights are on together.
However its only about 35 amps, so the alternator has it covered.

Have you driven at night with the 75w headlights yet? I am near certain you are gonna annoy a lot of people with that much light low beam. I had issues with 35w ones at 4300k.
Projectors are far better for headlight application.

Your calcs are a little out as well. With that many watts at 12v you are pulling nearly 50amps. Even at 14v its still nearly 43.

Surprise, surprise Telstra of all things.

Had trouble with the home phone and internet and was told to call another number after 24 hours if the problem was still there. Sure enough nothing had changed and I called the number. Three times over two days, without knowing that it was a premium number 20-40 minute phone calls. My mobile is with a different provider($18 per month) and I got a message from them telling me that I was $98 out of my cap. Rang Telstra and explained it to them and was given a $100 credit to my account no questions asked.

Yeah think I only calculated one driving light and one headlight still covered by the alternator
Dont do much night driving if I do I give the person in front plenty of room.
Not a fan of those projectors, illegal too but with HID i can just change globes
if I get nabbed.I also have some smaller lightbars 36 watts but no idea what to do with them

Good thing about email is you can request a delivery and read receipt so you know it has been seen.
The fax excuse is probably bullshit anyway, they just want to delay and hope you will give up.

Got no assistance at all from the company that we had install the system (a well known provider), this despite being under warranty.
Ended up getting a private contractor to the repair the system.

I pursed the company for months, and still no result. I then decided to pursue the matter legally.

The home straight now. A couple more hours at work then off till Monday night.
Have done 6 12 hour night shifts in the last 7 days. Two for free, well almost, building up some extra A/L.
Won't rest to much Friday night taking my youngest to the WWE his birthday present a few weeks early. Has no idea, he's going to be wrapped. Saturday a wedding at some place that George from Master chef owns and Sunday footy training. No game as the eldest got knock out last week and the youngest won and went straight into the grand final next week. Another busy weekend and I'm not at work. That has made me happy today.

Oh, Mudski what are you like on Saturday, there's a chance that I could pop in to get that thermostat if your free.

I’m still in the process of moving stuff from the old workshop to the new shed bit by bit but another small milestone in my shed project was reached today.
A fortnight ago I had power & lighting installed & last weekend I picked up 2 bays of pallet racking I scored off eBay (for $325) which I finished putting up today. It took a while on my own as the cross beams are not lightweight for one person of my size & I took my time, roping them up to protect myself. (Shame I didn’t have them when I hired the scissor lift to put up the lights). I also got some more Yellow Tongue flooring cheaply off eBay to use as shelving on the pallet racks which my wife & I cut & fixed up today. (Also not light especially when trying to manouvre it more than 3 metres up in the air!) It’s beginning to look more like a workshop. :)

Well done Cuppa. I dream of one day owning anything near that type of shed. very very nice!Ta.Yeah, I’ve dreamed of an undercover workshop with a smooth concrete floor for years, mostly whilst laying on a drafty damp dirt floor covered in lumpy gravel, old carpet & goat shit. The decision to put up the shed to house a ‘between travel dwelling’ was all part of the cunning plan. LOL. MrsTea will never know!

Bugger, rumbled! She just came & read this over my shoulder. She just smiled with a knowing look. Ha Ha.

Somehow I don’t think she was fooled for a second. She bought me one of these for my birthday.

Oh hell no ! No Toyota here lol .

We have done a small extension by adding a master bedroom, bathroom and walkin robe and in doing so also have a room under it that's just under legal height that I have shotgun for a pool room/ man cave and saved our old kitchen for it as well.

The rest of the house was gutted for new plaster, ceilings, insulation, old floor boards sanded etc walls knocked down for bigger kitchen etc.

unfortunately I still have a hell of a lot of work to do still but mostly on the outside rendering, painting(walls and roof) I just need to find the time also

I must draw the short straw then, been called up at least five times and selected twice. Both were horrendous cases, one was abandoned after five days. The last one went the distance and the whole jury were exempted from further jury duty for about seven years I think.
Happy to have done my duty but can be confronting depending on the case.

The payment is what I do not understand, if you get paid less than your job would pay how can anybody be expected to keep up with bills & Mortgage?

My daughter was selected last year 2 days after she got a new job, she told her new employer and 2 days later was told they no longer had a job for her but said it was nothing to do with the jury duty, no way to prove otherwise so it cost her a job.

They pay you $50 per day and your employer is expected to make up the rest. Not so great if you work for yourself though.
