Yes it was a great weekend. I won't repeat the what was been say. [emoji295] [emoji295] [emoji295] [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I got in about 2.30 and the rain was already coming down.

The Mansfield police tried to put a stop to our weekend, but being on 33s and 2" I thought I was all good. Until he said "mate, where's your sway bar". Ahh crap. He saw that it was broken and not just removed. Came back with no sticker, no rwc required just a trip to vic roads once the bar is in.

Thanks to rusty_nail for the use of his bar.

Only thing it was a bit of a "short" trip..

Credit must go to Hodge for getting the ball rolling.

The following morning I stuck my head out the swag , and there was a bunch of cockies and many parrots having a field day around the camp site...
Having a Time of their lives as a smorgas board was presented to them as we left a lot of food on the table overnight...

Jesus christ mate. Us Gala's had an absolute ball though. I just found a short vid on my phone I totally forgot about of the weekend and sent it to rusty_nail, which part of it shows him "cutting the rug". Absolutely briliant.

Just reveals how relax we all were.

It is a Fail mate. They pulled the pin on Tuesday. I was gutted. I was last on their list and they bounced me. I fully cracked it at them for delivering my kit and leaving it on the front lawn over the Christmas period at MY RISK. Filthy.

Huge HUGE Shout out to MB who offered last night to come and grab the full kit off the front lawn using his Crane truck and secure it for me and bring it back next year. BLOWN Away at this generous offer. Thanks Mark.

Shed Builders now booked for 7th Jan.

Overcompensated and planned on just cutting legs to the "right" height according to the missus haha for perspective, the bed side tables were roughly about the same height as the pillows on our old bed, and new bed is just below my waist line

Someone on Facebook has been trying to off load a heap of tools including two paslode nail guns for $150 the lot , everyone must have thought they were stolen because they advertised for the last three weeks with no one interested .
Thought I'd get in touch just for curiosity and see what the story was and it was a builder who had replaced his tools and was short of cash and emptying his shed .
Fixing and framing gun both work will get a photo of the whole deal after the minister of war and finance has had a few sherries but until then have hidden it all in the shed .

Daughter just sent thru photos of the property and their chickens and monster rabbit are still ok, no power, restricted water flow, and house reeking of smoke, Dead burnt leaves all over the place, no doubt the carry over from the previous event. They are so lucky compared to a lot down that way. She said it was eerie driving down the highway and livestock was wandering all over the place, no one around, everything black and charred - and heavy dense smoke, ash everywhere. I don't think they can stay there at the moment, busy emptying the fridge - poor buggers just did their monthly shopping trip the day before, so most lost.

Hey thanks for that, yes, its starting to feel like I own the solution and pretty happy where it has landed, still had its moments as you all know, but 80% thru the wiring tidy up, been at it 2 days now, also applied Jing Ping to the front compartment floor, which was easy, just more time, keen to see what difference it makes.

The generosity and in general the unbreakable Aussie spirit.

Some of you may may know, Sprock has had a tough time recently given his truck motor needed to be replaced, a mere 50k for the bill, also on the way to pickup the fixes up truck his patrol radiator decided to let go so that was off the road also.

I offered to donate my radiator from my patrol as he's also had a slow year for work and after all other expenses his family wagon was going to have to wait till things got better.

Took a drive down there yesterday and low and behold, sprock is in the midst of arranging to take 6 semi trailers of hay to the farmers up near Buchan as their paddocks are all scorched and there is no food for their herds.

After installing the radiator, I jumped in with sprock and we headed over to a couple of farmers places. Both had agreed to donate 10 large bales each with the plan to swing past a third person to fill the remainder of the truck. both blokes ended up donating more than the original quota, with the second insisting he wanted to just put on as much has as could possibly be fit.

I only got to see the generosity from these fellas, but I wanted to say how awesome it is to see that there are still people out there who can do stuff like this, including legend old mate Sprock

I only got to see the generosity from these fellas, but I wanted to say how awesome it is to see that there are still people out there who can do stuff like this, including legend old mate @Sprock (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/member.php?u=34974)

Whilst this makes me happy visiting my old haunts, it's bloody awful what going on for a lot of folk in Oz, thoughts go out to all affected and all involved in the fighting of fires and dealing with the logistics of everything. Take care all.

PeeBee Late getting back here Phil, been busy reducing flammable clutter around the place and associated jobs.

Used Car Builders peel and stick heat and acoustic shield mat'l against firewall and their embossed heat shield for stand off around dump pipe. As I now use FM IC, have replaced bonnet scoop with rear facing louver panel (600x300mm) what a difference in engine bay temp and transfer thru into cabin.

Hope all safe.

Thanks for the reply. I am thinking about the embossed alum. foil as well for my firewall. I used their felted material under the bonnet to great effect. Trust you are in good shape and out of harms way.

Thanks Phil, like a lot of areas we have been living with continuous heavy smoke for over a week now (P2 masks outside). I live in the southern tablelands NSW, a bit Nth of Canberra. The south Easterlies are causing some local concern, was 44c yesturday but cooled of significantly today. Trouble is lack of water, my dams are near dry, have a bore that I pump to a turkey nest dam(20m head/gravity feed) use for sprays at tow of hill by house and for hose. Been moving water around to better position myself and have 400l tank and pump on trailer. Just need to keep a look out.

The Adaminaby complex and Tumit fires are of interest. Few around us so hard to predict with the south and north easterlies about.

After changing jobs a couple years back I'm not as active as I used to be, that and age has resulted in a few extra kgs and some irregular bowel movements. Doc has ordered camera inspection for both ends.

Well I thought that I might as well do something for myself. It's only been 4 days, but instead of sitting in front of the TV after we have cleaned up from dinner I spend 1/2 hour on an exercise bike and that gives me 10ks, then another 1/2 hour on the weights tyring to lose the man boobies.

I'm going to have my crap eg chips, alcohol & chocolate twice a week and only if I really want it. Hopefully this will motive my wife to join me and anyone else who has a couple of niggling health issues.

SO WHAT MADE ME HAPPY..

Going to do number 2s daily.

I think the bike has helped move things along.

Hahahaha! Who would ever think that having a regular dump would make a person happy.

In all seriousness though. Good on you John. When I used to do the long hours and night work with Nic I packed on 11kgs. I had been 70kgs for as long as I could remember. After I finished doing the crazy hour work, I tipped in at 81kg on my first weigh in at the local gym. Since then I have been running and going to the gym a lot, I got down to 75kg (seems a lot harder as I get older), but now back up to 77kg, as I have a torn hammy which has played havoc since just before Christmas, and plus being away on holidays I had relaxed a lot on eating right and drinking booze was a bit excessive. I will be back into it soon though as I did feel a lot better within when I was exercising. Just waiting on the hamstring to get better. Taking bloody ages...

Taking a more responsible path in my health has changed me, I don't drink as hard as I used too for one. Even though I have enough booze at home to last me ten lifetimes, thats a feat in its own to not go and crack open a bottle. Lol.

Not today but over the weekend. Got started on cutting back the Ivy from these dead trees so they can be lopped. We have a few Brushies and Ring Tails living in them. So I need to let as much light in as possible to encourage them to move on.
80023

Once I could cut as high as I could I moved onto this bushy area, I think its call Chinese Latern or something. A bloody weed. I need to rebuild the leaning retaining wall at the end so I can put a water tank or two there.... Rossco, check out the lean on the Ivy covered dead tree in the back right of the pic.

Nearly all out... Just gotta get that other bushy thingo' out too. This weekend I hope to finish it.

What also really made me happy is the kindness of two council workers. We are allowed three 1 metre cubed trailer loads of green waste per year from the council. Then its like $70 each time. So Sunday they were shut due to the holiday. Monday they were open. I take the first trailer load down, I was holding around 2 cubes in my trailer. Packed pretty high. I get to the gate at the tip, show my rates notice to the guy, he looks at it, and tells me to go around to near the entrance where there is another spot to unload green waste, a guy will be there to direct me. He didn't even stamp my rates notice. Great 1 load for free.
A few hour later I rock up with another very full load, this time I didn't even get in to show my notice to get it stamped, the guy just sent me straight in to unload! Second load for free! So I still have three trailer loads. There is kind people that work for my local council!

Now off to the angry thread to vent about our local council. Lol.

Flew into Lockhart River (Cape York) yesterday. Our home at Portland Roads (5kms past the turn off to Chilli Beach) for the next 5 weeks, with use of a 2016 dual cab Hilux for the duration. Other than supplying most of our own tucker (fish provided) & paying for the storage of our Patrol in Cairns the cost is $zero including the return flights to/from Cairns. Feeling very happy & lucky.

It's alright Jack it's not all a bed of roses - first thing the owner did was to bring us an industrial quantity of mozzie coils & then there were the bats flying past at close quarters though the kitchen area & the living room just on dark. It's all open you see, except for the bedroom. The resident python hasn't been in to visit yet. 'Different' would be a good description but I wouldn't want to swap it. Went back down to Lockhart River airfield this morning to learn the ropes re the Postie side of things, all sweet - pretty cruisy.

Mc4by The Dampier Peninsula 'gig' was via friends of friends/direct contact but the others have been via an online house sitting web site. There are a number of such sites but the one we joined is Aussie House Sitters. Cost us about $70 for a year - which from the results we have had we have found great value. We joined whilst we were on the Dampier Peninsula, having decided we wanted to do more staying in a location for extended periods rather than just moving on all the time, particularly in the Top End during wet seasons. Sending interested homeowners the link to our blog, in conjunction with phone conversations & email correspondence has been very useful in conveying 'who we are'. Many folk choose to fit their travels in between 'sits', but we like to try to fit sits between travel, at least whilst up north. For us we need to 'reserve' the dry season for travel. We had hoped to get a full wet season in one sit when we came across to FNQ, but the rainforest sit of 4 months was too good to miss, so we came across hoping we might find other sits to get us through the Wet, but if that had not worked out, we would have driven southward to drier weather, returning when we could drive up the Cape. As it is we have secured this current one & another a bit north of Cairns to see us through to mid April. We have applied for a couple of sits which we didn't get, but all that we have got have been home/property owners contacting us on the basis of the 'bio' we put on the web site. Since being in FNQ we have had to turn down several requests to do sits as we are already 'booked'. Our experience is that although it is possible to get sits arranged before reaching an area, it is easier once in the area. On the Dampier peninsula, if we hadn't already committed to the place we looked after we could have got 3 or 4 other similar gigs. Some are 'jobs', either paid or unpaid, we shy away from those as we don't really want 'jobs'. Check out our bio on Aussie House Sitters & check out the rest of their web site. https://www.aussiehousesitters.com.au/house-sitter-pet-sitter/reliable-trustworthy-mature-married-couple There are also a variety of Facebook house sitting groups, which we are on, but have not as yet sought any sits through. (haven't needed to). We do make a point of keeping any commitment we make. For this current Cape York sit we were contacted the day before we were due to meet another couple on the Atherton Tablelands with a view to sitting for them for the same period. Had we have met them 48 hours earlier & committed, we would turned down the sit here even though it was for us far more desirable. As it was we told the Cape York people we would have to reach a firm agreement within 24 hours, before we met with the tablelands people. A lengthy phone that day call saw them agreeing to us & us to them. So the point is it helps to be flexible & willing to grab an opportunity when it arises if it's something you want.

I wanted to see how I'd go getting home on petrol (my tb45 is dual fuel gas injected).
I wasn't quite full full but just about. Went through about 40 litres and covered around 160km. I work it out at 25L/100.

Not bad considering I was in 2nd (auto) getting up some of the hills. Revs we're too high at 4000 rpm to continue to maintain 100km/h. Settled for 3rd at around 90 ish below 3000.

I now know that I should be able to get 700 km between both fuels safely.
