Bloody game changing experience today - Coles Click & Collect grocery shopping!
Pull up at the supermarket in a specially marked car park, right out the front. Dial the number on the door and they bring your shopping out to you! All done, door to door under half an hour. Unreal! Winning!!

Tegan and I went looking for a new car for her today as I feel it's time to upgrade her car. Conditions were it had to be diesel, she would have preferred a wagon but there are bigger all of them these days. Talked her into looking at mid to larger SUVs as the boot space is a big factor for us. First stop was Hyundai, took the Santa Fe for a test drive, it was nice but the boot wasn't too much larger than her i40 and it had features we didn't need like the extra two seats. Went past Holden... Kept driving lol. Went in to Nissan, the only diesel they sell is the X-Trail - too small, and Navara, went to Toyota, only diesel they sell is the Prado - too big, or bigger. Went to Subaru and I reckon we struck gold. Took the new outback for a test drive, 2L turbo Diesel, ask the bells and whistles, came well below the santa Fe, the size was great, the warranty is the same as Hyundai, Tegan felt instantly comfortable driving it. Time to sort out finance and looks like we'll be picking one up pretty soon. Couldn't find much/many bad reviews about them online, has anyone had any experience with them or heard anything about them?

We did a heap of research earlier in the year on new cars and in the end decided we were going to buy an Outback. We were going to get the petrol though.
Never went through with it though and have changed our mind and will keep what we have, but the Outback is an awesome car!

Earlier ones had problems with the auto not engaging due to a faulty 'o'ring or seal. Don't know if they have rectified that or not. Otherwise they seem to be a good thing.
I did some research too, and looked at some for my youngest, but ended up with a Camry.

Sent from my SM-G950F using TapatalkMy sister and brother-in-law have had an Outback for a couple of years and overall they've been really pleased with it.
The one thing that has made them want to sell it is the lane departure warning and collision warning/auto braking system.
You can switch it off, but you have to do it every time you start the car. I don't think it's an optional feature either.
When we bought our Subaru (Forester) we were able to take it for a 24 hour test drive, so got to test it out in different circumstances where we used our car.

Nice cars Outbacks, but why does it have to be diesel? All the usual issues with DPFs and intakes clogging upThe guy actually made the same song and dance at the dealership, we just feel we do alot of long distance trips eg back and forward to Sydney etc and the economy cannot be beaten by a similar size petrol car. Most of Tegans morning commutes are only around 20 mins but on weekends the car generally get driven for at least 2 hours per trip, the dpf shouldn't be an issue with the way we will use it but it was definitely something we considered.

And honestly , most of the time I drive it with steering wheel pedals and in S mode. Becomes very responsive!
The only thing that shits me up the wall is the auto stop start ... Because the motor is so quiet and it turns off on you without you hearing it . Then when taking off there is that delay and sometimes it was borderline dangerous . E.g. pulling onto a rd.
Having to turn it off manually everytime when car is turned on is begining to drain me.
I'm looking for a permanent fix !

(From the 'what has made you angry today?' thread)
This happened to me in August as well. I was pulled over and informed that my registration had expired 5 days prior.
No warnings now, if you get pulled over for that they issue you with an infringment.
I contested the fine and I'm awaiting the decision.
Just received notification in the mail. Infringement withdrawal notice and official warning.
As you could guess, I'm more than happy right now! Well worth the time spent writing an angry letter.

Well it's a long weekend and got some time in my shed today while the little one was asleep. Was great to get a bit done.
Set up a couple bays of Pallet racking and making some good use of it!
Found a 1997 955i Blue Printed Race spec Triumph Daytona buried under some boxes at the back of the shed I have not had the blanket off for 2 years!!
Got some floor space now, might even take that blanket off at some point over the weekend and have a fiddle.
What has made you happy today??

To enjoy this fully, you need to forget any other show you've seen with joker in it. Especially The Dark Knight. I feel a lot of people and reviews have high expectations in contrast to Ledger's performance in Dark Knight, which IMO is unrivalled.

Tightened it all up and it seems to have improved cold starts dramatically! Also found I am only getting around 10.5V to the glow plug rail when I have 12.8V at the battery, that can't be helping cold starts at all.

Glow plug voltage is rated to 11V on those, so that sounds right to me. Unless the rail gets the full 12v and converts it at the plug. Not sure...

Yesterday we were asked to caretake Portland House for February after we finish here in the Daintree.
For us it is a dream destination - way up Cape York in a spot about 30 minutes North of Lockhart River, 800kms north of Cairns & adjacent to one of Australia's best & unique wildlife locations, the Iron Range National Park. (And Chilli Beach is just a stone's throw away).
They will fly us up there & back to Cairns 'cos the access roads will be closed & give us the use of their 3 year old Hilux 4wd.
We'll be living in comfort in one of the Cape's more upmarket accommodations within a tiny community of just 10 houses. Our role, apart from providing security for the property by our presence, is to undertake a twice weekly mail collection from Lockhart River airport & distribution of the mail within our immediate community, far from onerous, this will ensure community contact both in Lockhart River & Portland Roads. Similarly a bit of grass mowing etc in & around the community will no doubt enhance our position as temporary community members. For things to work out so well feels like karma. To have access to Cape York at a time when it is at it's most vibrant & essentially shut off to tourists is a dream come true. We are absolutely stoked! Woohoo!

Spent the evening with Mrs Mudski having dinner at the Warrandyte hotel then a lovely set stroll along the banks of the Yarra. What a perla of a place to be at that time. The only issue was the millions of flying ants that come out just on sunset. Litterally millions of these things flying around at once. My car was covered in them when we left. But it was a great get out none the less.

So my work car copped a decent screw in the tyre and was leaking. I bought a plug kit a few years back and it lived in the Patrol and I have never used it.
Thought I’d give it a crack. Easy as and it worked. Let’s hope it doesn’t leak. Haha.

The only way to properly repair a puncture is to remove the tyre from rim and fit a mushroom plug from the inside after inspecting for other damage.

Never knew about that. My last repair I watched the guy do it at the shop in front of me. I thought nothing of it. Still plugged and working. Anyway, it was good practice since I have never done it before.

Heading back home yesterday and passed a GU near Millicent, wide tyres, dark green I think, with POOTROL in large letters across the top of the 'screen. Anyone know him?
Saw a really pretty silver GU in Beachport, built for looks I think, 31" BFGs, bonnet scoop, rear window scoop thing, nice & neat. Needed some oil though, rattle rattle as it took off.

After that severe wind this arvo we've lost power. Been advised by power company most likely all night. Pulled out the old honda genie, tipped out the off fuel and put new in and boom, away it goes. Probably hasn't been started in 10 years. Got the Waeco running to save all the freezer food and some minor baby essentials. Also got the house lit up by all the site lights I've accumulated. It's great. Better than sitting in the dark! Can even charge my phone with the Makita 18-5v charger I have.

Spent all day re-organising the layout of stuff in the rear of the Patrol.
We have a tent that weighs at least 30Kg, we used to throw it up onto the roof rack, literally. That is getting harder each 6 months, so changes needed to be made.
We used to carry a 45 litre water bladder. Not any more, that's been ditched. I re-org'd the back of the Trol and now we'll carry 2 x 20L jerries. I can now throw the tent on the floor behind the front seats, this is where the bladder used to live.
We now carry 70L of water (in 5 seperate containers) instead of close to 80 when we had the bladder.
Photos ...
Below you can see where the 2 x 20L jerries are going to live. You cabn just see the bottom of the rear jerry, it's military green.
79700
There's the bum of that rear green jerry and the rear 10L jerry ...

The Patrol is just about packed for the 6am departure. Anyone is welcome to tag a long last minute up the VHC. We will be going through Yarra Glen circa 6.30am. MB AB I'll shout the beers and whiskey, wine and port if you come. It'll be a bit wet but meh! I have my big tarp. I can cover half of Mansfield with it. Lol.

So my work car copped a decent screw in the tyre and was leaking. I bought a plug kit a few years back and it lived in the Patrol and I have never used it.
Thought I’d give it a crack. Easy as and it worked. Let’s hope it doesn’t leak. Haha.

Have a look at the wear indicator on that tyre. These were new, November 2018, and have done circa 15 thousand. Lol. Cheap tyres... Funny thing is too. Last Saturday the tyre was flat again. So I removed it and took it down to the tyre shop. the plug was still good bit had two other punctures. One was a piece of wood. A piece of wood...

So i have been in this house 10 years. I have rebuilt the GQ in the back yard. I wrapped The carport at the rear 10 years ago in black concrete plastic. It has lasted 10 years!!!
Well much planning and many variations and finally this happened today!

Are you getting the 600mm post extensions to allow for the height of a patrol with a roof rack etc. These allow the vehicle to be lifted high enough to walk under more easily. My son and I installed a 4 ton lift (not from Joel) with the extensions a couple of years ago at the back of our factory. Makes maintenance on the patrol so much easier
Cheers

Good for you Darren. I have had my eye on the 5t unit for installation at my brothers place. He had plans for the big man cave etc then the marriage went south. I said 'if he builds the shed I will buy the hoist'. Just heard the shed is going up 'in the near future, but its a chinese jobbie and nothing like the original so the hoist is off the table for now unfortunately. They are a very nice bit of gear.

No I am maxed out with this hoist and have built the shed around it. I have 100mm to play with. I went and saw the hoist today and Joel said at 5'10" I will stand up under the GQ no probs.

Yeah these are bloody nice kit mate. Joel is moving 2 a day! He has about 30 in stock and has 5 going out on Monday. The 5T would be nice but the 4.5T is plenty for me. No hesitation to recommend his kit mate. I'm.impressed with how it looked. I will post some pics I took today.

Yes I added 1m x 1m pad at 200mm thick for the base of each staunchon. Should be heaps.
I went out to Joel's today and had a good look at these hoists. I have to say they are bloody good kit. It weighs 750kg and each staunchon is 300kgs. Good kit.

"Been told today though I have to wait 4 weeks to bolt the hoist to new concrete so 2nd January is Bolt Down Day"
Darren, not exactly true. What concrete strength has been specified by the engineer? For example, the concrete reaches around 70% strength in 7 days then 28 daysfor 100% to allow for the moisture to dissipate. If you are keen for a quicker stand up, simply increase the strength of the concrete and ask the engineer to validate the strength cure curve. What we typically do when up against a schedule, say we need 20mpa concrete we specify 32 or 40 and it reaches the 20mpa level in the first week, so good to go. I also would recommend you use a chemset anchor system as opposed to loxins/dyna bolt or other mechanical anchor, unless yo are precasting the anchor bolts into the slab - which isnt a big deal, just needs a tempate in advance to ensure the distances are correct. The chemset system is miles in front strength wise and will never come loose. Only thing to check with the chemset system is around any residual moisture still in the slab during the process of curing to the ultimate strength.
