Great tools for a rusty as all get out set of paddock trailer tyres changeover finally.
Milwaukee 18v 1000Nm would have sheared the studs clean off without Penetrene wonder stuff!
Still had to Kinchrome mash hammer and pry the rim off the hub too!
BFG AT’s have near environment outlasted this entire 20YO trailer :-)

Talking to a cop last night, he was redirecting raffic, some log truck (I guess it was) had done something and the road was blocked), anyway, he was in a marked VW wagon. I said you guys are getting some fancy cars. He said yep, I said, I've seen the marked BMW 5 series around here and in Melbourne I saw an unmarked Range Rover, He said Yep. I said you guys are getting cunning, he laughed.

Starter motor cost $45 to replace brushes and a clean (I pulled it apart ) and now the old girl starts like new and first pop , symptoms were excessive cranking to start , blowing white smoke when starting and sometimes black smoke and was worse to start as the motor heated up .
Brushes were worn so much the spring tension was next to nothing .
Although to me it was cranking like normal just took longer to start the proof is in the pudding .

Was up there in 1997 with the family, camped at King Edward river, then did the day trip into the Mitchell falls, walked in from the carpark to the falls took about 3 hrs, followed beer cans nailed to tress,, minimal tracks, had a relaxing day swimming and exploring the upper falls, organised a helicopter pick up at 4pm for the trip from falls tocarpark, chopper had to refule so we scored an extended trip right out to the coast and up to the falls further up the Kalumbaru road. Met a husband and wife who had just sold their QLD cattle station and were on a private round australia light plane and helicopter charter - guy was wearing gold chains so heavy you could use them as recovery chains!

Road was very badly corrugated and Kalumbaru itself was basic but the campsite was clean. We stayed at McGowans Bay,camp area to Honeymoon bay - heard two different families own each camp areas - heard Honeymoon was better we heard later. Totally unforgettable, great trip, my girls still talk about it - so do I!! Have a great trip.

I know folks who went up to Honeymoon Bay several years running & loved it, but have also read of ongoing animosity between the two families who own Honeymoon & McGowans. Best to 'read it' as best we can when we get up there I reckon. Have been in contact with the bloke who is caretaker at McGowans. He's been there 3 years but is leaving in October this year. An opportunity to take over from him for the wet season if we wanted I think, but we have other reasons to be over near Cairns then.

Am so looking foward to it, not sure how long we'll be able to stay up there yet. I guess we'll be limited by the amount of food we can carry. Hoping to take the Tvan along the Munja Track too. Would have liked to be going up there at the end of this month, but will be in going down to Broome for a while (house sit) & leaving there at the end of May.Thinking we'll go Derby to Kunnunurra via Kalumbaru, restock in Kunnunurra & then wander down the Duncan Road to Halls Creek & back to Kunnurra via the bitumen & the Bungles (where we can camp in comfort this time - were on motorcycles last time), then on to Katherine with detours to Keep River NP, & a bit of 4 wheeling around the Gregory River NP. One way or another we need to be across the Gulf & in the Cairns area by beginning of October where we have a 4 month sit arranged on a 40Ha nature refuge in the Daintree. So much to look forward to!

Reckon we'll leave Arnhem Land to another time.

You lucky buggers!!! By comparison I am still serving out my time at the mine, battling flies, moths, brown snakes, death adders, suicidal kangaroos, wild pigs, lazy lazy people, fairly ordinary but nutritious camp menu, impossible decision makers, extremely dangerous site - have had 3 people abandon their jobs up here after the latest fire, morale is not fabulous, weather is firming up quite nicely though, so counting down the days until my next break, and further to that the mods to the truck. Travel safe Cuppa and Mrs T. One day we will cross paths i expect.

Sounds shit, but with all the money they must be throwing at you to put up with it you'll have an ace truck AND be able to retire early! Don't leave it too late I say, many do. Stay safe.

Bought 4 wind up legs so I can take the tent of the camping trailer and just use it as a trailer.

Can get the legs through work but are still about 100 bucks each so 400 bucks for the 4 needed, found some on FB brand new 30 bucks each or 4 for 100 bucks even better they where only 20mins drive away. Bargain of the day.

Sad news is they had the Jacola hot water systems for 250 bucks and not sure if the boss ( missus ) will let me get it even though its at a bargain price.

3 days exploring part of the high country! One of the best trips I've done . We had a bloke working for the forestries with us. Showed us some absolute cracker camp spots, huts, tracks , a lot of them , not on any of the maps !
It blew my mind how much stuff is out there to see that usually just gets driven past.
Also got to see some recently fire swept areas. Eerie is an understatement.

Unfortunately , back home now. .can't wait to go back !!!

I have read and watched others do what we are now planning to do, your turn will come.
The Kookaburra and all his mates made themselves right at home. They have no fear, we could almost pat them.
The shortcomings were ours, the trailer is excellent.
A place to store clothes was something we will address. A fold out pantry will be on our list as well. Opening and searching boxes stopped being fun very quickly. Our cheap can opener lasted half a can! So we had to get creative.
Our gas bottles sit on the drawbar and being a forward fold I set up the trailer tent before I realised I hadn't removed them.
A small backtrack with the tent and we were able to squeeze them out. A decent mallet to knock in the tent pegs will be a huge improvement over the limestone rock!
First time setting up the full annex and that was an interesting process. A few mulligans and it was up.
I will halve the setup time at the next outing.
We are currently looking into plumbing the gas bottles to the rear of the trailer where the stove is.

Nothing there sounds too bad, just annoying. You'll have it all setup perfectly by the time you get back home & then will have forgotten it all by the time you leave on another trip.

How much time do you think the lap will take?

Nah nothing bad at all but good to learn now. We will both be retired and the house will be taken over by one of our kids who is going back to uni so we have no time limit. We will just stay out there moving around until we have had enough. We are registered for camp hosting so we will see how that pans out.

Its actually not. I've seen first hand using a test tube with contaminated diesel in it what Fuel Doctor actually does.
If your fuel is already good, or you are constantly refilling from a reputable servo, then using Fuel Doctor or the like is more than likely going to be fruitless. I use it in my tanks as my Patrol is not a daily and see's maybe 10k's a week. So the tank gets a smidge of fuel treatment just to disperse any moisture and void off those nasty parasites that love to live in Diesel thats sitting around for a while.

If you have crap fuel and use this stuff, keep a fuel filters spare...

Spent the day cleaning out the almost falling down carport which houses the camper and firewood. Split a trailer load of Redgum. Also made a firewood box so I don’t need to keep going to the carport to get firewood. Was made out of pallets I scored for free at work. The left overs got cut up for kindling. rusty_nail. How’s my carpentry work go? I am quite chuffed with myself really. Its got about 180 screws in it, and I used about 5 pallets to make this. I even gave it a coat of linseed oil when I finished to darken the light timber a bit. 7845878459

I've been thinking about adding like a narrow side section onto it so I can put kindling in it. I have more than enough pallets at work to add onto it.

If you have crap fuel and use this stuff, keep a fuel filters spare...

There has always been a bottle of this in my patrol for a long time now. I also use it in other things like our Subaru, Victa mower and other 2 stroke stuff I have at home.

A little while ago we had a fleet of 15 Diesel Hiaces at work (d4d motors). These got driven daily, 7 days a week, on the road all the time. They never got looked after, most of guys at work didn't give 2 f***s about them. Use to get trashed and bashed, missed services by sometimes 20-25k, some got filled up with petrol multiple times. So they had to get cleaned out etc.

At one point I had one of them for a month and it used to run like puss ! Idled shit, not a lot of power etc. After I got the van a topic of injector cleaners etc came up with our diesel mechanic at work and we talked about this fuel doctor. He didn't believe in it. I got some anyway and began running it through every fill. First full tank was a full bottle of the doctor, shock treated it. If it hurt the motor well, it can't get any worse than it already ran.
After about 2 weeks and possibly around 2000k travelled, the motor was purring 50x better! I don't think it's the way you drive. This definitely de-congested the fuel system.

Great to see a couple of NP.com.au members today at the sausage sizzle. Was a pretty quiet day, we raised a bit of coin, not as much as we would have like too. But every cent counts.

Just got back the next lot of drawings for our extension. Fark I'm excited! The new carport under the house, or new extension will be 5.2 x 10.2 metres long! If only they could make it high enough to fit my Patrol in with the roof rack I'm set!
No doubt I will be back in the Angry thread soon enough when I submit the plans to council. They already hate me.

Go to a private Building Surveyor mate. They are registered building practitioners with the the Victorian Building Authority, so they are highly qualified and it's much less hassle dealing with someone running a private business who works for their clients rather than dealing with a council. It will be quicker to gain approval but more expensive. Ring around for quotes. You'll still need to provide all the required documentation and engineering computations, but it will be spelled out to you, and if everything complies with Building Regulations you'll be issued with a Building Permit. You don't need to involve council now (since mid 90's in fact). Private building inspectors will do the on-site inspecting so it normally runs lots smoother than dealing with council. Don't believe the media hype about "private certifiers" being cowboys. They get caught out pretty quick and the loss of registration plus large penalties keeps the industry pretty clean. The private certifiers involved in the Opal Tower debacle are one of the leading firms in the country. I don't know the fine details of that issue but it's far more involved than just the involvement of a private building surveyor.

We are only have a draftsman at the moment, he'd organised a land surveyor to come out and do their thing. My brother is an engineer so he said he will look over that side of things. As for the council, I assumed the council has the final say in anything. They have already told us that we require a full town planning permit, because the works are facing the street, even though you cannot even see our house from the street, as there is a another house block that view.

Oh, and do your homework and get a reputable, registered builder. Don't be talked into being an Owner Builder so someone who's not registered can do the building work. The responsibility for the construction needs to be on the builder, not you if you don't know what you're doing.
I dont have time to be an owner builder. We have a builder down the street who we know and he's reno'ed a few houses in our street and from the people I've talked to he's good. But will be getting quotes none the less.

I was booked to head up to his place for a few days after Cape Jaffa but Roofy's passing had me come home early. Was great to have a couple of coffees today.

Today is the day to cross an item of my imaginary bucket list - The Pigrams are playing a fundraiser concert in Broome later this afternoon. Have wanted to see them play in their hometown for years & had really hoped we’d get that opportunity whilst up here. Todays concert only got advertised last week, & in a fairly low key way, so we are thinking it will mainly be local folk attending even though tourist numbers in town have seen a big increase over the past couple of weeks. Seems that their Mothers Day concerts are a bit of a Broome institution. Really looking forward to it. :D
