yeah mate, got made redundant...... things haven't been great at work for a while now and instead of doing something about it I've just stayed there because it's what I know and played it safe. So now that I've been forced out of my comfort zone, it's given me the push that I should have done myself ages ago. Even though I was pissed off and disappointed, and no doubt will feel that for a wee while, I see this as a blessing, a fresh start elsewhere with new challenges and no longer stagnating and that's not the 2 bottles of red talking

Good onya clunky. 2 years ago i got to a point i could no longer handle working for the company i had been with for over 10 years. I was burnt out and stagnating, unmotivated and pushed past the limit after years of hanging on to security by my fingernails. I bailed and rode my luck. Now i work for myself, have really busy and profitable periods, then quiet periods which drive me mad. Overall im better off not only financially but mentally too. Huge decision to step into the void by yourself but very satisfying when you make a buck, especially when you take customers with you!

Just reflecting on the last 6 months or so.
Sold our place after almost 10 years of headaches and crap.
12 night cruise over nye.
Changed jobs after almost 19 of nights.
Brought an unmolested low production number HSV
Wife finally got her x5.
Kids are both back in their sports injury free.
Probably the only thing that hasn't worked out for the better is the lack of time I've got with the job change, but I can live with that.
Got a but of running around this morning (waiting for a wheel alignment now) but will spend the afternoon catching up on the forum. Well that's the plan.

A mate has finished welding up my custom SS water tank, it will hold around 75-80 litres and fit behind the 2nd row seats when I have them in. Just need to get it delivered from Cairns to Perth now. Looks good though and will be heaps better than dicking around with jerry's like I did last trip.

Nice one.
Hopefully hes put baffles in.
My 75L definitely needed baffles.
I had 2 in it but only to cover the middle 2/3 level.
You could feel the water when full, it was better when 3/4 full

A wise man allegedly once said "search until you find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life"

Be wary of which department tho...I had a ADF job but then I found out the other mob was allowed to shoot back... #$%# that!!!

Very nice Steve! Looks a treat mate. 80L is great capacity. I've got a 50L Boab tank in the same spot so an extra 30L is great! This one's not baffled either so sloshes around a bit, but for around $200 it's a good thing.

Yep, I looked at these and would have been far cheaper, but I needed the tank to be no longer than 800mm, as I also have my distribution box and associated wiring etc for the rear mounted dual battery in the same space. This tank matches the height of my drawers and will fit the space beautifully. Famous last words ;)
Its designed to fit into the spot where the snatch strap and recovery bag are sitting in this photo.
http://i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh486/stevemc181/Y61%20GU%20Patrol/Drawers/IMG_4526_zpsw8bh7jsj.jpg
The box covers the mess of wiring I have in here, but it is very easy to access if things go wrong.

I was waiting for a pay out. After almost 20 years I was looking at over 100k, but it was never going to happen. Well it better not now, because I left. Besides the $$$ it was the best thing that I've done work wise. Now working 4 days a week 40 hours with Friday's as overtime when available. Loving it....

Got insurance on the R8 with RACV classic and veteran. Even though it's just on 15 years old it qualifiers for their cover because of the low build numbers.
Can't drive it as its unregistered
but it's got full cover from fire theft, storm, hail and malicious damage all for $200 a year. 😎👍

Yeah the radiant heat it puts out is just awesome. We are going to put another wood heater in upstairs before next winter as the ducted system is really shoit and uses a crap load of gas. I am really not looking forward to the gas bill.

I disconnected my gas system ages ago. It ain't worth it with the bill, 'cos the electric fan heaters have been doing the job for me while consuming less dollars. I think ducted heating is good when they are new.

Cost me $1300 but I on the pension plan, also there only one of me, plus it`s off peak but only night sails.
Time before, a couple of years back, me and the missus, same rig and same time, cost was $1700
We just booked for 3 ˝ months over there too (first time), beginning of December through to mid March. Cost us $1340 for 2 of us, Patrol & Tvan, with cheapest cabin/night sailing both ways.
When are you going to be over there pearcey? pearcey

Wow, $1700 is up there for sure mate! Hope that was return/round ticket also :-(
Mate it was a round trip, and again we spent 3 months there, did 8000 yes 8000 ks and only backtrack about 400 ks
$1700 was reasonable at the time . I`ve been over and back ,lost count over the last 45 years, and prices varied heaps, just got to get the specials.

Nice one mate, I love Lakes, my dad has lived there for 20 years.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I use to come here every summer with the family when I was a kid. Dad would sleep on the beach, mum won't go near the water (90 mile beach) and my brother and I used to drift away past the wave break, until we had trouble seeing the beach umbrella.
Weeks later we would be popping fair size blisters off my dads back and peeling large pieces of skin off. He's 82 now and has never had a problem with his skin, must be the tough silician skin.
With all the times I've been here, I never done a cruise of the lakes unti now.
Lakes to Metung 3 hours with fresh scones made on board. Perfect weather highly recommend.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/91.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/92.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/93.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/94.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2017/06/95.jpg

Just back from 6 hours up the Grampians.
Took a track that had an open gate up around the Chimney Pots. Wow, what a ripper. It's a bit cut up and would need lockers f&r to go the opposite way to what we went. The track was cut up due to rain and very rocky, not crazy hard but very enjoyable. Had some 1st low with rear locker on coming down some sections as it was so rocky and slippy.
Got to the other end ad yep, the gate was locked! But there was a very well worn and built up way around it to the side, looked like it had been locked up for quite a while, but the way around the gate also looked like it had been used for some time.

Haha shopping like a man! Love it.
Don't get me started on cushions though. I have absolutely no idea what they are for or why they are ever needed! Want to sit on the couch? Chuck the cushions off and sit down. Time for bed? Pick the cushions up and put them back on the couch, walk into bedroom, chuck cushions off bed. Get up in morning, pick up cushions and put them back on bed. They are forever being moved out of the way and never used haha! Women and cushions are like wogs and cash. They just go together for no discernible reason.

Yeah I did blame that cheap fuel from an outlet in Wentworth but if seals are original it's more than likely just the seals perishing because of the new low sulphur fuels we have nowadays, at least that's what the mechanics are saying .
And looking into it the seals leaking problem is not uncommon at all for earlier model 4bys .
I'm going to have a crack at replacing the top seals myself there is a lot of info on you tube etc on how to do it , all mechanics I've spoke to insist the pump needs to come out and be rebuilt but apparently this is not always the case .

I had never looked under the bungalow since we moved in. Low and behold theres a ship to of new timber in 4.2 metre lengths under there. Im no expert on timber but this wood is no standard MGP10 pine too. Its got a bit of weight in it. Also a heap of hardwood planks at around 300mm wide by a couple of metres or so. Theres got to be maybe a grand worth of timber under there!

Tell me about it. After the crap we are currently going through this was a really good find. Theres some bigger pieces of timber under there which will be used to fix up the pergola.

How many kms on it?
I don't know mate, no rego... you'll have to strip all of the mods off and find stock parts put it all back to grandpa speck and take it to the pits at VicRoads which will be scary.
Very risky mate. You should be trying to find a nice clean one with legal fruit on it and over the years build to suit what you want.
It's a beast don't get me wrong but for you to get that on the road will be a mammoth effort.

Hi Guys, No i don't know the car. it is all over Facebook now. reading the threads there is a heap of interest. it is very well priced. Lots of good gear hanging off it.
It doesn't list the lift but its a Coil Cab so swapping out bigger springs for 2" for pits is Nothing. All the other bar work would stay. It doesn't need to be grandpa spec for Vicroads. It would not need a Vicroads inspection anyway?? Just a RWC.
I think i read it had 450k on it. but it looks like a beast to me. I spent at least 20 seconds thinking about buying it and parting out the GQ to be honest.......... Then i remembered Naomi would kill me. Nice rig i reckon.

ha. i just re read the add.
So it has 4" rear springs and 5" front springs due to the extra weight in the front with the bar work and winch. Running Kings Shocks. Depending on which Kings Shocks there is some coin there. Himount.

VicRoads do inspections on vehicles which have been unregistered. They only check over a few things quickly though to make sure the person who wrote out the RWC is being honest.

does it say how long it has been out of rego? f it has just ran out then the guy might be taking the plates off just to protect himself. I thought it was 3 months out required an inspection. I might have made that up though.
The Rego plate is clearly visible, do a rego check on it.

Vicroads inspection of my dual mod plated vehicle was cursory to say the least. The lady who checked the engine swap didn't even check the engine number! The guy who accepted the GVM upgrade was only interested in where the mod sticker was located. I have heard the saying 'going over the pits' but at Burwood inspection facility I would say there is no hoist or pits and pick a day in the middle of winter when its 5 Deg C and blowing a gale and raining and they will probably not even come out of the office!

Main thing I found was the engine no had to match the vin no or you had to have the paperwork for it , getting a roadworthy in some parts is as easy as paying a bit extra .
My sons GU ute proves that .

Richard, from what I see the obvious problem areas are
1) tyres, 2) exhaust, 3) would remove the lightbars,
4) springs
If I was going to buy this I would swap the tyres and wheels with someone who has a patrol parked up in a garage and can do without them for a RWC and a Vicroads inspection, 2) take the ute down to an exhaust place and get them to stick a muffler on it, I would remove the light bars front and rear just so it looks a bit more ordinary, find a set of cheap springs and swap them out, then chuck them or flog them on gumtree. From there you have a solid platform to work with and only have to review the 'normal' RWC items. You can always present it to a RWC guy and get the defect list first. With a bit of help you should be able to convert this beast into a nanna tractor in a weekend.
Its got a heap of fruit and also has had a lot of work down, you just need to get it a bit more street looking. I don't know if there are any regs regards the tray though? Personally I think its worth the effort.

Spent this arvo in town and was directed by a guy at Auto Pro to a bloke that services autos. I got there and found a South African built XY GT Fairmont sitting on the workshop floor.
Apparently the bloke who owns it bought five of them and imported them a few years ago. Apart from some rust in the bottom of the front guards, it was in mint condition.
They're not worth near as much as the locally built GT Falcon, so it is a cheap way to own one.

Years ago I seen a story about someone buying a property that had a large shed with no windows and a massive thick steel door and no one knew what was in it as it was a deceased estate and previous owner was a bit of a hermit with no relatives .
The new owner had to bring in specialists to to get the door open only to find the shed was packed with rare and exotic sports cars and classics , among the haul was quite a few of the South African made XY Gts , the photos were amazing .

At a lookout in Mt Cole State Forest yesterday, admiring the grouse view. From where I was standing in the first photo, I spotted 3 eagles circling in the updraft about 100m-200m out. They were looping slowly around in wide arcs I presume looking for a tasty snack below. I stood there for a few minutes just watching them when two diverted over to check me out circling for a minute about 50 feet above me, before silently gliding further around the mountain out of view. Not one wing flap the whole time I watched them. I was so close to these silent, gliding beauties!! Absolutely magic!!
