Hmm, from a practical point of view, the ply is a quicker option, but you miss the opportunity to pack and straighten out any bows in the wall. Mind you, you have steel studs, so there shouldn't be any defects. Battens will be cheaper, but the ply also gives you more opportunities to fix the vgroove. Both ways have their merits, what do you think MudRunnerTD

rusty_nails Question that u may be able to answer.

Started building my house yrs ago and stalled a bit due to health issues. Starting up again and has cypress T&G floor and going to put radiata pine lining boards on ceilings to steel joist /trusses and instead of battening it out thinking of fixing pine plywood sheet first and nail lining board to it or are timber battens the go?

Cost and time consideration, thanks Nico_thinking of getting some local hired help as been too long finishing.

Looks good mate, Too be honest i would Gyprock that all day. V Pine will be a fair bit of work but not crazy.. The metal studs should be straight and not bowed so no wall straightening required but you can't fix V Pine to them so you will need to batten them out with some 42x19 so you have some fixing for your lining boards. Buy a Brad gun if you are going to use Vpine though otherwise you are just doing way more work than needed.

Obviously if you Gyprock it then you just screw the sheet straight o the studs. You will need Furring Channel to batten out the ceiling, again, if you are using vpine then you will need to batten out again to fix too. Furring Channel you just screw the Gyprock too it.

If you sheet with Ply first then all your battening will be null and void so this may end up a cheaper option.. Again. Gyprock for the win in my opinion.

rusty_nail MudRunnerTD thanks for feed back. Bit of a wood project along with wall construction of roadbase stabilised with 4% cement (rammed earth/no clay).

The ceiling down below has raked section off flat and upstairs (loft) is as pic above. As mentioned, looking at getting some hired help to finish off internal fit out/lining, including the pluming/electrical. So with labour cost fixing v_joint on battens tending toward sheeting with ply first and then v-joint. Catching up with a builder tomorrow. Have done all except sheeting of roof (good lady and myself). Couple of pics.

That looks fantastic. I still think Gyprock would actually provide a great contrast to all your other textures. Colour on Gyprock (Even white) might just Pop!.. V Pine might actually clash with your floor a little. You might consider some higher quality face sheet ply and fix it up as a finished surface, that would give you the timber colour you are chasing and the 1200 x 2400 sheets would look great.

Nice mate, I had arranged 2 get a heap more from a place 10mins down the road from me during my xmas 2 weeks off, but done my back in last week and not sure if it will cope. Dropped off a trailer load of cut stuff today that I loaded weeks ago, it certainly wasn't happy doing that :(

13 acres, all grass. lowest fire risk potential, starting the journey now with architects and council for a dam and bore, going to set it up with double solar so batteries for the house and exporting to the grid, soar boosted hot water. No gas or water on site, power at the road, house should be about 150m back from the roadway and behind a small hill, so plenty of frontal privacy.
2 blocks sold before getting to market, board went up yesterday, they wont last long, all blocks around the same size.

Success, bonnet issue resolved. The pressed channel that runs from guard to guard and holds up a host of things, was deformed where the catch sat. I ended up cutting down a metal 'square' I had and then pulled out the protractor and compared the angle of the front pressing in other spots and it was out about 2 deg!!!! So I packed up the bottom of the new catch and the bonnet closes with a light push instead of the 200mm drop as before. I am guessing the extra scoop weight as MB mentioned has pushed the bracket downwards - happy days
Also hooked into the passenger side BOSS rear spring support - still took me 2 hrs, and my spring seat must have some minor distortion as the new unit would not seat without taking a sander to a couple of bits to linish the edges off. One hell of a lot easier to install than the drivers side. I did destroy a set of heavy spring compressors, so borrowed the neighbors and destroyed them as well - those Dobinson 300kg coils are a bastard to compress.

So, under bonnet temps with a 10mm packer at the rear of the bonnet, removed the rubber seal and 2 x 100cfm bilge fans flowing over the exhaust manifolds - what was 90 deg+, now 67 degC, happy with that result. Fans run all the time the engine is running.

Next is the 5th overdrive gears on Jan 12, then sometime later this next year the Willwood Brake upgrade.

Been working on the Hiace Commuter, fitted a fridge stand, now moving onto the second battery & charger. Blacked out the windows with that plasticy black corrugated cardboard stuff.

Found a card table so we can sit opposite each other inside when the weather gets lousey & play scrabble. Might be buying a queen mattress to leave in the back so we can just go away with a few minutes notice.

I can fit, could fit, the Patrol wheels onto it. It takes a Hilux diff so I could even put a rear locker in it, but ..... won't be doing any of that.

Had one of those rare days today where I had no commitments and all day to burn during a 200km drive home. Ended up taking me about 5 hours coz I turned off the highway at all those roadsigns to obscure places I've blown right past for years. Amazing the old villages/settlements/homesteads from bygone eras that are still out there. Nothing substantial that could be called a town, and no shops or touristy stuff, just back blocks and old stuff years ago bypassed by the highways department. Was bloody unreal actually. If you're not on a tight schedule, hook off the highway to check out something you've always driven past without a thought. You might be surprised/interested like me today.

Had a bloody good night last night, maybe a few too many rums but soo good sitting on the new deck at Coota looking across the lake at the Howe Range with the moon poking throgh the clouds. A fair bit different to a year ago down here. .

Yep, I fell in love with the Limeatone coast last year on our trip. Can’t wait to do it again. With any luck CJ will be on this coming Christmas. Only 12 months away!

Should have gotten out and threw his cup back in his car. I did this a few moons ago to a smoker. The words that came out of his mouth was amusing. Only because I flicked it back in his window and it landed on the passenger seat. Would have burnt a nice hole in the seat too.

Unfortunately he was moving at 60kmph towards Nth Ringwood where I finally had a chance to inside pull up beside him at lights for an attempt to subtly encourage him to return and collect.
Received nothing more than some jibber jabber crazy waving F-Off at me so bugger it, he can pay his Australian respects through his tax avoidance cash hip pocket fines!
Did honestly keep my conduct to a minimum beetroot level to hopefully ensure he didn’t take it out later on his oppressed wifey sitting on the back seat being chauffeured.

Woo hoo! Was really disappointed by a dry wet working in Darwin Feb-Mar '19. Was really hoping to see the gods angry but wasn't to be unfortunately.

Edit: Was only last year actually. 2020 bastard of a year all round.

Edit edit: Um yes 2019 is right. Got mixed up with a Qld contract early '20. I'll shut up and go home now!

Regular rain late arvo every day commenced in parched Mutchilba 4 days ago. Heaviest fall last night - 63mm. Almost 200mm over 4 days. Creeks that have been dry since we arrived here last March have become raging torrents. We were cut off last night by fast running water over our concrete causeway entrance. Now about 2" below the top of the concrete & still raging. More forecast for the next few days. Brown & dry is rapidly turning green. Huge puddles still soak away quickly into the sandy soil. More bugs/beetle, flying ants etc around at night. The Channel-billed Cuckoos are gathering together ready for their northern migration. Rains have cooled things down to daily tops in the low 30's (instead of high 30's) but humidity has risen (although nothing like it is down in Cairns.

MrsTea has survived an acute allergic reaction to something unknown (but we suspect debris off a collapsed tin roof brought down by 53mm rain in under two hours on a chook pen which was beneath a Ponciana tree). Intra muscular adrenaline & oral steroids at Mareeba hospital did the trick . Will be trying to secure an Epipen for future travels.

This morning we found that the dunny wouldn't flush & every tap on one of the two gravity fed polypipe lines from the irrigation channel was dry. Investigation revealed that overnight the causeway over the dry creek into 'our' property had had around 500mm of water over it, making the creek around 3 metres deep. First time any water in it since we got here last March. Creek is still full & raging, but about 2" below the concrete. Photos taken after all of the larger debris removed. Cause of no dunny water is that the poly line crosses the creek with a joiner mid stream & water pressure has pulled the pipe apart.

The first day - just 14mm. Enough to collapse the infill around the new septic tank giving it a 'moat'. We worried about it floating upward, but so far it's stayed in place

82726

'Our' causeway entrance. The once dry creek bed is about 2.5 metres below the water surface. Had a couple of puddles in it late yesterday arvo - filled overnight.

82727

Downstream side of the causeway

82728

Upstream of the causeway with me 'discovering' the polypipe has been pulled apart

How's this for the greatest invention ever? It takes a small butane canister which can be refilled, and a blue pesticide mat. I don't know the ingredients and I hope it won't cause me a premature death because it works brilliantly. We were getting smashed with mozzies and within 5 mins of lighting this they were completely gone. It was about $50 at Bunnings.

Pretty much spent the weekend in or around the pool. Except for a drive we took earlier this afternoon up to Pykes Creek to have a look. It's only 1/2 hour away but it's all hills going through Anthonys cutting. The big old girl had to work, but with 5 in the car and the a/c going it reached a max temp of 85 factory gauge needle didn't move from its normal position. Happy with that.

Spent a few days up in the southern wimmera, came home for a few days. Then out again for a few days up the Coorong.
Feel like I've cheated on the Patrol, left it at home in the garage, poor thing, just sitting there at home on its own.

Anyway, forgot that the Coorong isn't much without a 4WD, so didn't do alot there, but it was still great.

It will stand him in good stead in the future Darren, some kids think a Maccas job is below them.
At the start of each year when we were hiring part timers from the local Uni students, one of the guaranteed ways to get through the resume cull was a work history with Maccas of over six months. You knew they were able to follow direction, work as part of a team and had a work ethic.

Ever seen those stupid videos of people pulling up at a bowser, only to realise the filler is on the other side ? And then they do a 90 degree turn to the OTHER side of the same pump ,only to end up in the same predicament?
Never thought I'd witness it first hand but it just happened !
This courier in a van spun around 3 times and then got out of the van scratching his head... This bloke had absolutely no idea what was going on ...

Me and a work mate attempted to guide him but got hit with a English barrier ...
How some people live and breathe daily is beyond me , let alone acquire licenses and drive on the roads.

Anyways didn't make me happy but it definitely made my day [emoji1787][emoji1787].

Laid the footings for a cubby house I bought off Facebook marketplace. The decking was rough sawn, ran it through my thicknesser for a premo finish and will paint it once the cubby is assembled on-top of it.

Building a pergola at my mum's place to salvage a grape vine my father planted more than 30 years ago.
I got some brackets plasma cut from 5mm thick COR-TEN steel for aesthetic purpose really, but fitting them today I'm really pleased with how they look on the 150mm square treated pine framework.

I love it when a plan comes to fruition.

Ratchet straps in there to hitch the vine up to the new pergola height slowly over time [emoji106]http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/01/161.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/01/162.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/01/163.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/01/164.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2021/01/165.jpg

Hey MB the other day I remembered, years ago I built a storage box for the back of the Hilux. As it turns out, it's perfect for the mobile tool trolley/bench/storage box I'm wanting to make. Then at a place I work I found 4 castors (is that the term for wheels??) that they don't know they had and haven't moved for 5 years, so I reallocated them.

Today I'm getting 5mm sheet & a vice and I reckon I'll be set.

One half of the box has shelves, the other half is open.

Picked up some 5mm plate for the top of my bench. I got my 2's and 1's muddled up. I got 2170mm long, but only needed 1270mm, so I've got some offcut to play with. Gee a 2170mm long piece of 5mm is bloody heavy.

Also picked up a 100mm vice.

Arrived home just after 6am from a work call-out. I think it took me 15 seconds to fall asleep.
Minutes after falling asleep, I'm hearing a Kookaburra, cackling, laughing and hooting... I swear I thought I was in a daze or dreaming I was in the bush with the Kookas dawn calls...
But dream it was not. It was a fair dinkum Kookaburra on the large gumtree in our court!!!! I couldn't believe it...
I don't care how tired i was or that it woke me up... Can't tell you how much I love hearing a Kookas call when out in the bush, and for 11 years living where I am now, I have never ever heard a single one. This was the first time! Even though we're next to a large swamp/bush land area. This made my day, week, month... I hope they become local and stay here!!

A couple of days ago we gave 'Fletch' a lift. Today the boat he dives from was passing. It moored up well off the coast & a couple of young fellas came ashore in one of the aluminium dories. First we knew was hearing them calling for us down in the garden. They had brought us a feed of fresh Painted Crays off the reef, courtesy of Fletch. After cooking 'em up, one between us for lunch was all we could manage. We think we may use the second for a batch of Thai soup. I performed a donut and we got stuck in some soft sand on the weekend. The tyres were already at 15psi, so I tried a different method I had seen on Youtube. I selected 1st low and accelerated gently. It took a bit of time, but it worked.

The Old Trol bucked a bit but clawed its way slowly out of the sand. It would have been smoother in an auto or with crawl control, but it worked, even though we were going up a long low dune.

I reckon a reduction gear set would make this work better and be easier on the whole drive train.

Getting off the plane from Brisbane, where everyone travelling into Vic is required to have a travel pass. yes, its an easy get around I suppose, but when the entire country is a green zone, some might argue, and they didn't need one. A pair of entitled gucci clad 30 wanna-bee's, loud obnoxious Pratt's, sitting up the front, waltzed out and were hit by the full DHS permit inspection team. 'What, we don't need one, we are in a hurry, we are from QLD..... on it went - I took great delight flashing my token 'green tick' and away i went. Bags were really slow to get down to the terminal carousel, maybe 45 minutes. Mine came out first, and I looked up to the escalator and both of the flashy couple were being escorted out of the building by DHS and Vic Pol, beautiful sight to see, total waste of resources, but what a lesson.

Daughter’s awesome defence and a single goal helped destroy all the big smoke full boys teams all season and today they’re City Smashing Champions!!
Well done LB.....very proud Mum & Dad [emoji3590][emoji3590][emoji106][emoji106]

Caught the taxi at 5am to the airport. On the way my boss on site texts me, its 4am at his end, saying the ground rules have changed since Tuesday when i was given permission to travel, so i need to wait until cleared. having to be checked in by 6.30am, not much time. Anyway, finally got the approval after numerous calls, 'come to site, you are fine, no quarantine required', so checked in.

Boarded the plane, sitting listening to the safety blurb and plane starts to fill with avgas vapour and fumes. Hostess stoically continues, then the captain interrupts saying they have a problem, hang fire. Wait 5 minutes then another messge, engineers called, hang fire. 15 minutes later, we are offloaded. get out of the plane then fine Vic has closed the border with QLD. More calls back and forth with site, final agreement i can work from home for at least this roster. So back into another taxi, (another $140 about to evaporate), and get a ride back with a turban headed manic club footed crazy arse camel driving taxi driver, almost threw up in the back seat, spent most of the ride braced between the doors, roof and windows trying to stay alive. Suggested he slow down, yes Mr, of course Mr - F***K me. Anyway, back home, sun is shining, working from home again. happy days - what a micro mission it has been today.

I owe my 4 year old daughter a new bike. We took the training wheels off yesterday and made the deal that if she can ride it properly without them then I will buy a new bigger one. She is pretty chuffed with herself!

When I watch an ad for a new TV, showing its amazing colour, clarity and sharpness, and I go "oooh that looks amazing", then realising my own TV is showing that colour, clarity and sharpness.

Sweet! I don't need to spend $$$ to update an old TV that shows the same colour, clarity and sharpness as the new one being advertised. Woo Hoo!

Huge day today collecting wood, 2 BIG trailer loads done. Trees dropped, cut and carted, I will split it at home with the hydraulic splitter. That should do me until at least the end of next season.
I am KNACKERED!!

Plasnart was generous to give me a pair of factory Auto Hubs he found on an old wreck somewhere. We I pulled my after market Auto hubs off and have not been happy with them since I bought them as the Auto did I not work. I stripped the Autos you gave me Plas and clearly mune are knackered. Stoked with these. Cheers mate.

Spending the week around the high country with an old 4wding buddy from my oyta days and his nates. We had snow, ice, wind and sunshine over the week. In total a full 1200km. I think we missed MB by one day at Howitt hut. Will do a full trip report hopefully before the end of the week.

Probably one of the high lights of the trip.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210418/dd833d54a0a7e935f904acc1686e9e60.jpg

I'm not surprised. If you knew where I found them I highly doubt the owner paid for it or worried when they stacked it and abandoned it.

One more sleep until I'm a patrol owner again..... it's a soft roader (GU) that's fully legal with mufflers and all and it WILL remain fairly tame and pretty much close to fairly legal.

It's taken 20 months to find something thats not an over priced flogged piece of shit with high km and sub standard accessories, no rego or roady. I got a part loan for this in Aug 2019, payed loan out nearly a year ago.

My turbo falcon will be up for sale too.

Farrrk. Good on you though for being picky. What you've bought must be a good one.
