Storm power is back on again since Friday (3 days earlier than list predicted) thanks to the likes of team Hodge Legends out there working around the clock!
Quite impressed with the fuel economy of these cheapo backup Kingys.

Kept the Coonara fans spinning all night last night on only half a tank.
Still time me thinks to aim towards a full off-grid appliance and solar/battery system for home as we do experience this far too many times yearly.

Helped a farmer mate today to clear a paddock of a giant tree. I wish I got a photo of it, it was a monster and my saw was not big enough. It required a 30 inch bar on a 660 attacked from both sides and an old fergy to shift the weight of the beast tree.

Nice mate. I rounded up some neighbours yesterday and split up about 30m of messmate from another neighbour. Measured by trailer loads, it was 12 fully overloaded 7x4 trailers. Everything was split with a hydraulic 3000psi splitter nothing stopped it. Massive day but everyone now has next winters timber sorted, or at least most of next winters

Yep was good when the last one hit the ground, she was leaning back towards house (8m away)_dead timber, took up cable slack and held pressure while did step cut, with Vicki on the winch remote, put saw down went and jumped in GU, gave it a good persuasive backup haul and all was good(Split down the vertical grain between top/bottom cut(my Dad taught me that one_the heel keeps the log from slipping back off).
Wind brought one down few nights back, clipped the hose spouting (so pushed it back in shape), smashed up fence so just had to do the others.
So much rain here last month, dam/creek has been running thru 3 weeks now and tree roots just let go.

Started back at work today after a 6 month break, without pay for the last 4 months, didn't qualify for Jobkeeper. Working from home to begin with, then a return to site when required. I can get the travel exemptions, but they are single journey only, so if I return to Vic from QLD, i will have to quarantine for the mandatory 2 weeks again - not that keen on that scenario, so will see how long I can hang off heading to QLD, as it will mean I am stuck up there until the QLD opens the borders.
Fired up the computer just now, 723 messages downloading, god its started again! - looks like 80% are from the motherhood brigade.

Successfully replacing the handbrake cable on the EB Falcon after a bit of drama...
I had the new cable fitted and used a torch to identify any sharp edge that could cut it.
I Found a couple of places, so removed it and put all parts in the D/S footwell.
After filing and bending the metal on the handle assembly, I fitted it to the car.
After a quick search, I couldn't find the end that joined the cable to the under car lever.
I pulled all the tools out of the foot well, lifted the carpet, searched under the seats, took all the stuff out from under the centre console and retraced my steps to the workshop.
No sign of the bloody part. Fast forward half an hour... I had even used a magnet to try and find the part in hard reach spots so I was thinking about ways to make a new piece.
I gave up looking and went to pack up the tools but when I picked up the torch, I found the part stuck to its magnetic base!!!

Yeah I know, all you guys have my sympathy. I can't imagine what it must be like down there to be honest. We have 2 kids locked up in Melbourne, they're going through all sorts of shit.
I did actually think of others as I was driving around and thought, we haven't been up here for 2 years and it really hasn't changed. So if worst comes to worst and stuff takes 2 years, at least natural beauty doesn't change much in that time, so it'll all be here when everyone can finally get here.
We actually had a bit of 'free from lockdown guilt' as we travelled around.

Looks like my FIFO days are over for now, Covid 19 and QLD travel restrictions have killed off any possibility of returning to site in the immediate future. happy to stay in Melbourne now, and the funny thing is 'as one door closes another opens' - well I have been headhunted for a role with BHP so maybe this will turn out for the better. At least I will be home on weekends and free to get out when we are all released.

Looks like they have different restrictions for different industries, son in law has been flying in and out on a semi regular basis. Just back from 21 days in QLD, he only has to lockdown for 14 days but is allowed to work 12 hour night shifts with his co worker also from Vic during that time. He’s working on a critical government contract and they don’t have any qualified Qldlanders that can do his job.

Jack, its a bit more complicated in my situation. The company I contract to is anal anal anal risk adverse cotton-wool nanny state limp wristed dick slappers, and they have delegated the gate keeper on site for determination of site access to a height challenged little nazi, who is taking great delight in screwing as many people over as possible so he is seen in a position of authority. I have the documentation from the VP of the company stating i am an essential worker, however the midget is over-riding that by saying you can't come because there are other PM's in QLD that can do your job. This is not an accurate assessment by a long shot, however the management on site don't have the balls to challenge him - unbelievable. Further to that, they have had a shake up of their site leader-less team this week and all those recently elevated well beyond their next level of incompetence are in tailspins about such things as changing their email signatures and whether they will get a better seat allocation on the shuttle plane. My new 'el incompetento' has a 3 month transition plan into the role, however the guy he has replace has vacated the role instantly, so no decisions.
Getting across the border is not the hard bit, its getting from the quarantine hub to site that is the issue. Its funny timing all this as i was given the heads up yesterday lunchtime that my contract was unlikley to be extended, yet right now i am reading a contract renewal document for the role, and I have the BHP position as well. going to be interesting over the next 24 hrs i think!

Been running my department at work. Team leader was off all week and next week too. He isn't Hands on at all and spends most of the day chatting to anyone willing to listen. Everyone does the same job so things run efficiency. Except when someone is swapped with alot of work, no one else can do it quickly so other departments have to wait.
I run things differently. Everyone knows a bit of what needs to be done, so who ever is free does the next job. I just let the most experienced person on that job know and ask them to keep an eye on them. I will pick up all the small turn around jobs and over see what everyone is doing.
All the other team leaders 5 other departments are happy with the way I do things. If I can't get to something to them I'll let them know and we'll work out something. Rather he does a different order or I give him enough to finish and the rest later.
I've been a 2IC for a long time most of it a my previous job overnight. I was employed at my current job as that and told that I'll walk straight into the team leaders role once the current TL retires. I think I'll got a little under 2 years to go.

Can’t go wrong with an Isuzu mate. Best built out of the Asian variants in my opinion. Been selling Truck bits for 27 years now. They’ve always come out in front of all the others.
Look at the Dmax for example. Been around for 12 years now?! Still run the same motor. Do any other brand still run the same motor after that long. Proven mate.
Good choice.

Isuzu all the way. Over the years our whole EWP, Crane, Tippers have been re-bodied and re-trucked to Isuzu. A lot of these trucks are on the road being battered 24/7, by a lot of people who simply don't care about them since its not theirs. So they more or less drive them like they stole them. And the trucks simply keep on keeping on!

Yeah been nothing but reliable the old Isuzus, seriously never had a problem with any if them don't think. May not have snazzy features of the competition but personally don't want too many bells and whistles in a work vehicle. What's the auto box you went with is it auto or automated manual. Our little tipper is automated manual, wish we went manual but still good when driven tiptronic (which do all 100% of the time lol) pretty much a manual with auto clutch lol. .

Anyone know anything about Hiace Vans?
Made the decision to buy one and do up as a camper. Don't know whether to go for the 3litre turbo diesel or the 2.7 litre petrol. Read that the 2.7 with an auto guzzles fuel.
I'm guessing the 3 litre is the same as they put in the Hiluxes?
Open to all suggestions. Also looking at Ford Transits, but don't know much about them.

We had a few hundred hiace vans as delivery vehicles at work. They were great, not overly comfy to drive but lasted forever and never had any issues.
They are all being replaced with Transits now which are much more comfortable to drive with more features but we are having endless troubles with them. A few engines have blown, turboes gone, panels popping off and huge electrical issues.

Thanks Winnie. How old would those Hiace's have been? 2000, 1998, 2010?? Just trying to work out the model And petrol or diesel?

Yeah same with our Rangers which same motors I think. No motor problems but heaps of electrical problems with many of them, Ford were frick'n THE worst to deal with, never looked back after seeing the last one of them go. .

They do exchange them at about 200,000kms but very rarely have issues in that time.
As Rossco said, Ford were absolutely awful to deal with as well.

We had a '95 Spacia 5 speed manual for a bit over 15 years and put a few hundred thousand ks on the clock. After the head gasket was replaced, the thing drank oil but kept on chugging along.
They are a bit hard to work on but not technologically advanced.
The Spacias already had carpet and some even had dual aircon. We looked at getting a 4wd version as a camper, but they were as scarce as rocking horse excrement.
It was totally stuffed when we finally sold it.
I never did find a workshop manual for it so trouble shooting was a bit hard.

Open to all suggestions. Also looking at Ford Transits, but don't know much about them.Fleet of around 25 hiace vans were replaced last year.
They were the 3L d4d common rail motors. Same as the 3L Hilux. Variants. These things were our callout and faults vehicles and were on the road just about 24/7 for 6 years. They were flogged , used and abused, countless missed services and still going great with virtually no mechanical breakdowns. Just under 300k when they sold them off.
Can be uncomfortable as the seats are right above the wheel. You're literally sitting on the suspension spring.

It is manganese, so if you want to actually weld to it you'll need to use a 310 (from memory) stainless steel electrode.
My one is the mantle, its the bottom half of what you have (the concave). If yours hasnt been used as a firepit yet just make sure it doesnt have any backing compound still stuck to the outside. That shit stinks up a storm

Had 4 hrs straight sleep last, nodded off @ approx 3 am had to wake up at 7:30 to take my steroids (Dexmethsone 40mg _10 tablet each morning for 4 days_now 3rd day). Keeps you awake /disturbed sleep but pacing out all the time (full on go). Night before had was in bed 5 hrs but up walking around every 2hrs, and day before (Monday) went to Syd (500 ks rnd trip for dog health). Taken Melatonin doesn't help to sleep much and last night had some Valerian tea (home grown)with lemon and honey_worked a treat(slept thru 4 hrs). Will slow down after a few days coming off the drugs. Some side effect but OK.
Not for COVID, I have conic ITP (Thrombocytopenia), low platelet count in blood level 15 (should be 150-400) 2 yrs now, inhibits blood clotting causing free bleeding/easy bruising and as a consequence have a compromised immune system (just keep low and isolated):smiley_thumbs_up:. As said before don't mind that way of life anyway.
Will do blood test every 2nd day from next Tuesday for 8-10 day? and then weekly till end Nov to see if platelets rise and stay (target 100) and if not guess move on with next part of the journey (cruising). First hit of this drug did not provide desired response so will see.
Anyway had more than eggs on toast for breekie this morning and photo proved worthwhile, showed that I only took 9 so bumped up to 10 and all good for another day. Go with the flow I say, have slept on the table under the knife before. Just thought I would share and bit of a piss off I guess.
Anyway, need to slash some grass, clean up more of the garden beds and play with my CRD manual boost control arrangement (enjoy cutting pieces vac hose) and drop by the forum. Who needs to go out to find work of interest plenty here _ money appears in my bank account each week:coffeetime:

Ebay, bought them prior to doing the motor work, and never used them on that job, but have since a few times. I have not cranked into them, and to be honest they would probably take a beating a couple of times but not as a regular tool - there are a few of the more professional brands out there with the same operation, but the pivots are more robust - these are a good tool for the price and frequency of use is perhaps the best summary

I was travelling with an 85 YO in Europe a number of years ago on business and he had just recovered from his second hip replacement operation - I could not keep up with the bugger in the airport terminal, he was an absolute bulldozer of a man and he simply 'pointed and shot' where he needed to go. In the end he started getting pissy because we were slowing him down! Best of luck Darren, its sure to make a huge difference to your quality and quantity of life.

Worked out why my mid 50's TEA20 Fergie tractor RHS rear whl drum bake was not working(only rear braking of course). Needs a new inner axle seal, bit of a wash down of drum and shoe lining with petrol and rag. Came up a treat, some adjustment and all sweet. Was impressed with condition of mech parts/shoe lining (good old asbestos I would guess) and also that the drum was secured to the axle flange face with 2x3/4" dia headed (counter sunk) metal threaded bolts (solid as).
Thought 17x8" steelies were heavy to fit up/stud allignment, try these fergies 1/3 full of water. To think I rotated these side to side for wider whl track some 15 yrs back (body is failing me a bit I thinks).

I have have been on steroids(really) Dexamethasone for last 4 days (40mg/day_10tabs) just finished 3rd course taken over last 2 months_ for low blood platelet count. Not a lot of success with that next part of journey, meet specialist Thurs for next stage_stuff me.
Had 4 hrs sleep last night wooopie, previous 4 might lucky to nodded off 3hrs / night. Head full on go pacing out all the time(work plus hard to sit still). Be buggered tomorrow but must go fishing Friday(need to be out there).

What makes a person happy? Getting to work early Saturday and finding out weekend work is getting cancelled, and a spontaneous overnighter trip gets planned out of nowhere! When I got up that morning not a 0.0001% chance of knowing I'd be driving up a steep high country track 5-6 hours later ... But it happened!
Enjoyed a few hours of sunshine and 28C and great tracks and but then the weather turned in an instant. It was incredible. Went down a track, and on the other side of the ridge, within 5 minutes we got hit by staggering winds and rain. And then the real fun began.
Experienced first hand how within moments, things go from 1st gear easy steep crawling, enjoying the view kind of driving, go to, sliding backwards with no control and thinking of the family at home because you're sure it's the end... Went from T shirts, flip flops, and A/C to jumpers, heater and gloves and winches out all within 20 minutes... Hell of a time.

Anyways we checked it out and one Lux stuck half way up one section no working winch couldn't go up couldn't' go back so were going to sleep in the car in the wild weather - not ideal lol. Managed to winch that vehicle up and get the other one up and they resided to camp on the track that night which must have been miserable. Got them on the radio the following morning and were driving two cars out and leaving the other to come back to. . Bloody good track but i think it would have caught out many . . .

I finally watched The Godfather for the first time yesterday. Only 48 years after filming! What a bloody great movie. Watching it again tonight to come up to speed. So many intricate little details and goings-on. Will need to see parts II and III now.
exactly me earlier this year, it has to be one of the greatest films ever made, to be that old and still make people think it's fantastic.

Great work horses mate. Nearly all our truck fleet at work are Isuzus now.
One tip mate from multiple personal experiences...
When it wants to do a DPF burn off , let it. Don't interrupt it by turning off vehicle half way ... During Green burn off which is on-the-fly , the harder you drive it, the better for it as it burns hotter ...
When it wants to do an orange burn off , pull over hand brake up, have a drink , get the phone out , check the forum ... Let it do it's thing.
If interrupted, especially the orange one , it may or may not like you very much, as it will throw a tantrum in the form of a limp mode ...
And driving to nearest help at 40kmh max and/or awaiting a tow is not a lot of fun for anybody's business... And the wallet won't have much fun either after the clean and manual burn off at the service centre...

Thanks for the paintings mate.
Now just one question
I see all the exercise program which is about the same as I had for my knee replacement but what about folding the leg across and above the other knee.
As if you were putting on your socks.
Asking as I struggle with doing this with my right leg.

Something weird was happening with tappa ans those pics. I posted them 4 times ans each time they broke.
I have not put a sock on my left foot in a year. Slowly slowly. I will get full movement back. I will have to do a heap of stretching and Rehab

Wondering if it would be worth slapping a thick coat of cheap white bright paint across all the ply before next steps Nico Mate?
Could help lighting immensely, especially for night time projects bench work [emoji106][emoji106]
Knowing my woeful shadow board efforts over the years and constantly changing outline locations reckon it would be a piece of piss with a second roller paint scrub out/over if ever needed and if that waffle makes sense?

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMakes sense mate, I'll consider it tonight, although after another 12 hours in there today I'm much further along. The White would brighten everything up a shipload, but would also show all marks etc that accumulate. I'll have a think about it tonight but I think I may be too far past that stage. I'm already looking to other walls for space for other items I want accessible such as a hand tool section. rusty_nails Question that u may be able to answer.
Started building my house yrs ago and stalled a bit due to health issues. Starting up again and has cypress T&G floor and going to put radiata pine lining boards on ceilings to steel joist /trusses and instead of battening it out thinking of fixing pine plywood sheet first and nail lining board to it or are timber battens the go?
Cost and time consideration, thanks Nico_thinking of getting some local hired help as been too long finishing.
