One of the companies we do work for had a massive operator error based breakdown which ended up damaging high speed servo motors and their encoder cables/plugs. All the cable are custom length which is specific for the motor and servo drive unit. None of which is "off the shelf and readily available".

Last resort was to join on old cables that had good plugs but were hacked off to less than 1m long.

14 hours and 176 solder joints later all servo motors run and know where they are and what they're doing. Im stoked about that

Installed a 5kw diesel heater in our caravan yesterday. Only took a morning to do and they are absolutely unreal! They seriously PUMP some heat out and are crazy efficient on both power and fuel.

Just be sure to never restrict the Webasto’s flow at all, my current silly design (dodgey plumbing up top) finds that it cuts out after P3 setting. Much like a hairdryer they appear to need full unrestricted airflow and are tops then [emoji106][emoji106]

Thanks, I will keep you in mind. Its been over 18 months in the making. And more money than I thought just to get to this stage and we haven't even dug a hole in the ground. But we are finally ready to go. The builder reckons he'll be done by Christmas too. I've built my own house, fully renovated another house but never have done an extension to one. So this is a first. Then once this is all done the 70's bathroom we have will be gutted and re done to bring it into this century atleast.

I will still have to wait a few years unfortunately to get my own shed though. That will be done over time I think.

Pretty much the kitchen, new ensuite, the lot will be done by the builder. I don't have time to do anything myself. Im gone each day for 12 hours, last thing I want to be doing is this stuff when I get home. But I am hoping to demo the old one out if the builder will allow me. I am busting to demo this out.

Had some industrious fellows turn up, this morning, to lift the water tank onto its new sand pad.

What's the capacity of that tank mate? I've been thinking of getting a tank for ages. Do you know it's dimensions?

I'd always thought you could roll those things into place???????

mudnut
5th June 2020, 11:21 AM
Around 22000 litres, just about 4 metre diameter Approximately 12-13 metres circumference i haven't measured, but guess it is around 2.5 metres at the centre pole.

I found it easy to pull the tank off its pad, with the Patrol's winch.

When the tank was first installed, the delivery guy just flipped it onto the sand pad, but it took ages to get the sand level under the tank. I no longer

have the physical capacity to get under the tank to fix the pad.

It was only $150 to hire the crane, and now the tank sits perfectly.

My work team were all Sydney based and I used to give them absolute crap when Storm were winning everything, they hated it.
I'm a bit of a sports nut, used to go to AFL, NRL, A-League. Been to the Commonwealth Games, heaps of visits to Olympic Park for athletics many years ago and also the boxing. Getting to old for all that now, now I watch everything on TV except golf and basketball.

Something to talk about at the next meetup - remind me (I'm hard to shutup), the older I get the better I was. :D

Haha nice one Jack. Yeah we all do that a bit I reckon. Tried to get into soccer but just couldn't. Too much staging for me. Tried to get into gridiron and just couldn't. Different teams for attack and defence? Huh?? Don't mind watching golf, I find it relaxing. Bit like slow TV. Love cricket the most I'd say, but test cricket. Can't stand the slap and tickle 20/20 stuff. Really enjoy the rugby league. AFL I went off after the bombers debacle caused me to stop following a team I'd loved since I was a kid. Still hurts that one. Ive been to the Bledisloe Cup and love watching rugby but have no idea what's going on! Would love to know the rules to make sense of it. :D Absolutely love boxing. Now that is one beautiful (and brutal) art form. Speedway motorbikes get me going and I try to get to a couple of meets each year. Moto GP is amazingly mind blowing for me but can't stand Formula 1.

Driving back from the Peninsula this afternoon and I split a heater hose doing 100km/h about 15 minutes away from home. Managed to pull over and stop almost straight away, the steam from the coolant that sprayed everywhere made it abit to hard to find the fault. While I was waiting this bloke pulls over and asked if I need a hand. I explained that I was just waiting for the steam to die down to see which hose crapped itself. Nice and easy to see, split about 25mm long on the top side of the hose. Now I use to have a small amount of tools in the back, but haven't had then in for a while. Young (well under than me) bloke had a handful of tools, cut off yucky bit and refit. Took about a liter of water. Thanked him for stopping and having some tools. I do believe in good karma, something good will go his way.

Now the hose that needs replacing is the one that has the dogleg elbow, it goes to the top fitting into the firewall.

Is this it.

Good day today.

Replaced the heater hose that split earlier this week, oil and filter change on the patrol and the the boys car. Repositioned all the car clearing and servicing bits and pieces from the shed to a rack in the garage. No move walking from the driveway to the far back corner behind the house everytime I forget to bring something out. Even manage to put the security camera hard drive box in a cupboard. Really cleaned up the area and the kids can keep there smelly sport boots there too.

Mate! Apart from Nigella, height is another weakness of mine. What would take a normal person at this height to do I, seriously struggled. This. In my life has been the hardest thing I’ve had to face.
It’s weird though. I’m on the ground looking up and thinking yeah I’ll just do this and that. I get up there. The wind is blowing, the tree is swaying and the bucket I’m in is swaying another way and I’m so close to losing my shit! I am so glad I am done with this thing. Now to clean the mess up.

Yeah, I guess it's all part of the adventure! :) Just back from 3 nights camped down on the Emu Creek. Was great to get back into the Tvan again.Believe it or not we hadn't used it since end of last September, (but have lived in 5 different places around FNQ). It's pretty peaceful where we are near Mutchilba, but down on the creek with huge amount of bird life & great views was hard to beat. Even the midnight visit from several feral/wild horses was added interest. And then this morning we took a punt on some tracks to get back 'home', & had a ball of a time up & down some very steep & rocky tracks, slow going, with lots of 1st & 2nd low, highest altitude was about 950m. Thanks to FNQGU for telling us about the country out there. We tried asking locally if they would be navigable with the Tvan in tow, but couldn't find anyone who knew. Reckon if we had they'd have said no, but the Tvan handled it all no problem. If Ben is reading this ....we drove to Petford on the bitumen & then went down to the riverside camp spot at Emuford. Returned to Mutchilba via Hales Siding, Stannary Hills & past the lake (Stannary Hills Dam) & through Boonmoo Station. Someone was camped at the dam - what a fantastic spot! Great drive.

Spent the last few days around the Melbourne. Went into the cbd yesterday, weird, there's no one there. I spent 40 years in Melb and I've never seen it so quiet, very very strange. I'll tell ya what, if you live down there you're safer in the cbd than the suburbs. The burbs just seemed normal, people everywhere.

Happy to be back in the bush again, Melb is not a place for me anymore.

Spent the weekend at Gordon Country 4WD park in the mountains at Goomburra - roughly 3/4 hour or so NW of Cunningham's Gap. Loads of people camping but not many of them were 4WDing.
Lots of good fun, but unfortunately where a few dramas: Careflight was called in for a child with spinal injuries (felloff a tree swing), ambulance called in for another child with a broken leg. Also a family slipped off the track in a muddy patch and would have rolled down an almost sheer drop of more than 50 metres but slid into a stump leaving the vehicle damaged and inclined precariously at more that 45 degrees but safe - wife and 2 kids in the vehicle too, and a company car. Recovery was achieved by the ever helpful 4WD community - we did assist in the recovery but were not the primaries. All safe in the end.
And of course there were the young daredevils who kept getting themselves into awkward situations.
The park is huge and you can camp anywhere, but facilities are a bit scarce to say the last. Toilet facilities are few and far between and showers are a premium. We were completely self sufficient so not an issue for us.
We had a great time.

They said it’s not sold as a seperate part and the only way to buy it was to buy the loom with a new sensor. The guy who I was talking to told me to hang on for a minute, he gets back to me and says he has a spare loom sitting in his desk draw and would send it to me for free. I offered to pay for it and the postage and he refused.

My son hasn't been in a great place lately.

He started doing a PE teacher traineeship at the start of this year, after finishing year 12 last year. He was always going to do something that involved sport. He tossed it in about a month ago, saying that he still loves sport and everything that goes with it, but has now realised that it's not a career that he wants.

He has been working casually the last couple of weeks, while applying for different apprenticeships. Got a call this afternoon that he starts on Tuesday a 2 week trial as a heating and cooling plumber.

Not only it made me happy, but the smile on his face, he's wrapped. Good to have my boy back.

Since we're not allowed to travel anywhere outside VIC, I'm sitting here mapping out a trip to visit the 3 points of Victoria.

Point 1 on the south coast, point 2 up near Mildura and Point 3 over east near Mallacoota.

Should be a bloody good trip, think we'll do it over a few trips as I don't have any leave planned ATM.

Went out yesterday to get to Point 1 of my 3 Points Vic trip. Point 1 is down on the bottom of the Vic - SA border on the coast.

Took a detour firstly to Princess Margaret Rose Caves, never been there before. It was all shut up with COVID signs everywhere.

Interesting thing was lots of tracks and turn offs that went over the border into SA all had Road Closed signs across them. I was surprised, I really thought they wouldn't bother being way out the bottom of nowhere down here.

Anyway, we didn't get to Point 1 as we had to detour 6kms into SA to get around the Glenelg river and it'd be our luck that Mrs Moanalot would see our VIC plates and dob us into the wallopers.

We'll have another crack at Point 1 in a few weeks.

Pretty much time it took from first discussing this to having it in our hands. It had to go via Brown Forman, who own Jack Daniels. so things take their time. we are already discussing the third barrel buy now.

I used too, but never now. I find ice just waters it down and hides the flavours.

What's changed in regards to how the game's played? I'm no league expert, quite the opposite actually.

The big one this year has been the inclusion where any ruck infringements which would used to have been blown a penalty, the ref will now call 6 again and the tackle count is restarted. It's made the play the ball much quicker which means we get more footy in the 80 minutes and the big fellas are getting tired quicker.

Keep an eye on Harry Grant the tigers hooker, he will be back at the Storm next year!

Yeah I'm not as up to date as a "real" league fan Winnie, I just like the game a lot.

In 1994 I went to a City vs Country game at Newcastle with a Vic mate. We both sat there not knowing what the hell was going on.

In 1995 I moved to Sydney and was itaken to a Balmain Tigers vs Wests Magpies game and didn't get into it again. Didn't understand it. Not even huge Paul Sironen hitups got me to understand the game (although I remember seeing that huge bastard).

Then I went to a friend's local grade games and over several weeks I asked why this, why that, and got taught the ins-and-outs of the game, and I loved it!

Back to Vic in 1998 I preferred League over AFL and went to Storm games at Olympic Park. Was great! But moved out of Melbourne and haven't been to a game since.

Still love watching it on TV and in my opinion it is so consistent in its rules generally. It doesnt change markedly year on year like AFL which has turned from its own game, which was bloody great, to a cross between soccer, basketball and rugby union. Lost its identity in the last 20 years unfortunately.

It seems the price of even old Patrols is high atm. I don't know whether to be happy about it or not, because the resale value of the Q is pretty good. I am toying with the idea of upgrading to a GU, because of the limited towball weight of the Old Trol. I am researching RD28 blocks that have been built to take petrol internals and having the RB30 or RD28 head. This means having the same block with the factory turbo. There are drift cars running the RD/RB combo so it is doable.

jaysee you should find that using gas will stop the spatter you have around your welds. From what I was told anyhow. The gas is there to form a shield around the weld to hold the heat in for a cleaner weld. So I was told again.... I've never tried gasless on my mig.

It’s after 5:00am AEDC19Time finally!
Allowed out now to quickly get some Milk for our Coffees & CocoPops :-)
Unfortunately do have to break the 5km rule though....it’s triple that to a nearest Caltex :-(

Yeah how does that work Mark? A 5k radius surely your still out of reach from anywhere...

“So many grey areas, such little time for rules to be written on hundreds if not thousands of possible scenarios for being out and about within 5km too. I think we all just need to be practical and do what we can, where we can, if truly and unselfishly needed for a few more weeks.”

Outer Nillumbik, Yarra Ranges, Mitchell Shire residents I personally know are all seemingly abiding to the best of their distance necessities and unquestioned locally mate!

Surely given allowances for family necessities if not retailing within 5km of home. Yep we're under siege but not fully a nazi state just yet.

Yep they're mostly doing a good job. Not without some issues though. Shot a 60yo the other night for being off their meds. Goes both ways.

Spending a few days working in the West Macdonnell Ranges in NT made me happy this week.
Getting paid to go 4WDing to scope an upcoming job and enjoying mid to high 20's temp.
Only downside is it is a dry camp.

Tony you are an absolute legend mate. Could only dream of doing what you're doing right now.

Sure you don't need an offsider post Covid? I'm not a bad camp cook if that helps!

Where abouts was the sawmill at Tarago?

Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk

Near half way along Old Main Jindi Rd "as now called" (Westerly side). Stopped running around mid 60's(pailings and framing timber runs), steel flat top roof/wooden frame_typ small bush mill setup with many exposed drive belts _Not there now(was a young bloke at school). So much has changed, use to walk thru standing timber/bush all the way to Beattie Rd (near Glen Cromie). Mid 80's was the last time for me around those parts.

This is the kind of territory we have out the mine in NW QLD except half the tree density. Nice area to be moochin' around in for sure.

No worries mate, just have to do your apprenticeship in Radio Communications though. I heard the government promotes hiring adult apprentices.

So envious Tony, just short of twelve months since we were there. We came in from the West and it was truely an amazing place, not sure I'll ever see it again but would certainly love to go back and spend more time there.

Firewood is new dunny paper in Mexico these days, we’ve canned greedy bugger orders and only allowing 1m3 each for all to share as best is rarely available.

There is a firewood season? I do it when ever I can and when ever the wood is free.... Does this mean I can have a weekend off at some stage??? *L*

Farken so much easier and quicker now with the log splitter, that for sure, no way i would of cut that and then split in one weekend before hand using the old hand splitter.

Still feels rewarding, when it keeps the family warm :)

Picked up an old new addition for the shed today. Grabbed a box of scrap and made a 4mm bench top. Big plus was I found a 8mm plate that the old owner left behind.

After a bit of moving things around I'm set up a bit better now.

Almost ended in the angry threat.

So we rearranged a few things at work the other day. One being this pedestal drill, that we haven't used in years. I said to my team leader "I'm going to ask the boss if I can take it, we don't use it and it keeps on slipping, probably needs adjusting or new belts." Boss gets back to me "yeah you and have it, it doesn't owe us anything".

Sweet, I thought. Later that day I walked pass to see if it was bolted to the bench or just sitting on there and noticed that the vice was now missing. Long story short, my team leader swiped it and had it under his bench ready to take home. After I approached him he eventually gave it up, but not without making a big song and dance how I owe him and he's doing me a favour. He kept on making excuses for most of the day how he just playing with me , then it was how he wanted it and I'm getting a drill for nothing so I should give him the vice and I should buy a vice.

All this from a 62 year old man, with multiple properties.

F@#$en immature tight ass. He actually told one of the other guys that he wanted the drill but never thought of asking for it because the boss would never give anything away.

F him. This time I won and he lost...http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/08/163.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/08/164.jpghttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2020/08/165.jpg

Kept the Coonara fans spinning all night last night on only half a tank.
Still time me thinks to aim towards a full off-grid appliance and solar/battery system for home as we do experience this far too many times yearly.
