Christ, the other week was on the way to work, 100kmh, just over a crest and those guys were smack in the middle of the road about to waddle into my lane, bang on the brakes, switch lanes, didn't hit one of 'em. Mum or Dad took to flight and was left with 6 or 7 fluff balls all trying to fly to get out of the way.

Our forum has been through hell and back over the years and we've watched a lot of other quality forums die with the likes of Facebook and their lack of cataloging and referencing for future knowledge along with the knowitalls but I'm proud we are still kicking it folks and it never ceases to amaze me in the last 12 month growth of quality members and old school members still around.

I've not been here for too long, but this is one of the most friendly & respectful forums I've ever been on. I've been on forums for many things since '94 so I've seen a few. One of the nastiest is a very well known Australian travel forum, nasty angry old men on there.

I've only ever received great help from people here.

Just driving home from down the Warrandyte research road and a big tree fell across the road just before the car Infront of me went under it, everyone stopped and I jumped out. Another bloke from the other side of the road did also and we managed to clear the tree and debris. The bloke shook my hand and we went on our way. Even a lady with kids in her car jumped in and have a hand!

Made me feel proud to be Aussie, everyone just jumped in and did what needed to be done and everything was all good.

Yeah well I'm thinking to just disconnect the Redarc gauge and just drive it now. I have other options but Im not really in the position to spend anymore money on this hunk of junk. I thought of buying some standard injectors and replacing them as all this started when the new high flow injectors were installed. Maybe I have dud injectors??? Would have though this would be picked up in a dyno run or something. Not sure.
Ahh well!!! Its hot and my pool is getting good use now! Happy days!

PeeBee

Its used to dry the wood slowly so it does not crack as the it contracts with the moisture loss. You might be familiar with the term Kiln Dried Hardwood - used for furniture and internals that are essentially supplied for end use with the timber in a stable condition.

Looks a great unit Mark. Noted the panels will need protection from frost damage, good idea to run Ethylene glycol thru system maybe anyway. Great if you get good solar down that way mate to save on gas..

We noticed that frost panel warning too John but believe it should be ok as long as we run it 365days year round so the water should never get below our set say 55C charge.

Yeah good, maybe the anti-corrosive properties may be of sys benefit(maybe not). Good ladies family ran kiln drying plant for Aust hardwoods, from the mid 30s until recently and use the mill sawdust waste to fire the steam boiler for the plant. Maybe some day could tee off for flow and return (hot water) and hook up small boiler that you fuel with left over timber.

After 2 weeks and a total of 90 litres of paint we have finished everything, except the doors and trims around the windows and doors, will do those once we have settled. All floor skirtings, ceilings and walls(undercoat +2 top coats) are completely finished. No more feature walls. All for a little over $1000. Not bad for a pair of cripples. My wife did something to her knee earlier this week and I'm still in a cast. Eldest son helped out a fair bit too.

Out to buy fridge, TV and some furniture on Sunday and back to work on Monday. Already have 2 queen size beds waiting to be assembled. Next weekend will try to have most of our stuff there.

Been over 2 years since we've had our own place. Completed another Pier to Pub swim at Lorne yesterday, that always makes me happy so came to this thread

I'm in the Super Veterans group (old farts) and lots of us have been swimming together in various open water events for the past 15+ years. You know a few by name and remember a lot of other faces, a really good bunch and always joking before the start.

Unfortunatly one of our group didn't make it yesterday, I didn't know him personally but do recall speaking with him as he was competing for the 20th time. He was happy about that and it's also my goal. Not something for the angry thread so I'll mention it here.

Nice post Jack. Yeah sad for your mate and his family/friends. Poor man feel very sorry. Did that swim a few years ago when I was doing open water swims. Was the highest profile one I did but my fave salty was Port Campbell but fave overall was 8km Bridge to Bridge at Cohuna. Was stuffed after that one.

I did Port Campbell a couple of times and just about everyone this side of the Bay, you sort of get hooked. Bugger the Bridge to Bridge I'd need a truck tube and a swift current.

The code totally wiped out the cost of the horn an just left me with the $5.99 postage to pay. Lol..

Yeah, good isn't it... there's something fascinating about tropical rain showers... and after it finishes you can literally see the grasses and vines growing

Yep serious! Been waiting for the Wet to begin & it still hasn't. Been dry & humid for weeks. Lots of small storm cells in the area, but all have missed us until today. This one has been bigger than many and is pretty mild as tropical storms go, but it's brought consistent rain for several hours & really freshened everything up. ET's right. The last drop of rain we had a few weeks back saw speargrass clumps appear out of bare earth. Now their seed stems are up to 4' tall! Ugly burned out bush is now a sea of green. Still trying to imagine what it must be like when a proper Wet season happens (like last year).

My daughter and partner were moving house over the weekend. Much planning and forethought gone into it and everything ready to go. Im driving one truck and another being driven by a pro driver, her partners work friend. Friday afternoon, phone call. The workmate will drop off the truck but can’t help load as he has to go to football. Ok we can get around this, but her partner and me the only males available to help. Friday night another call, she’s in tears, the $1250 they transferred from one account to another has gone missing in the bank and they have had to use credit to get access to the new house. Credit card is charging huge interest and bank says they can sort it within a few weeks. Dad (me) into the cash in hand for Patrol mods and stuff and pay out the credit card so they not getting hit high interest. Sat morning, we start loading but her partner has to go and deposit the cash to the credit card mob. Me and mum and daughter work on. Me and the missus are both 65+ so a bit slow at loading. Then the good bits start to happen. My employee mechanic turns up in the my work truck, “ I heard you needed some help”. He stays all day and I flick him $100 as that is all I had after the credit card thing. Then the partner gets back from the bank and the bank have found the money that went astray in the first place. They didn’t say this until after he had deposited the cash however, so that will be refunded on Monday. Sunday morning, back into it. We had broken its back on Saturday, as well as our backs, so just the light stuff left. Missus and me were supposed to be going on a river trip in the afternoon, to celebrate out 46 wedding anniversary. Tour company rings up and tells us the trip is cancelled as they didn’t have enough people and we would be refunded. Pressures off so we finalised the move about 4:30 yesterday. Now all they have to do is find the TV remotes and other bits and pieces. So why am I putting this in the “happy” column? Because despite Banks, Credit card companies, pro truck drivers and tour companies stuffing nearly everything up, the missus, daughter, her partner my employee and me managed to get a plan B up every time and complete the job. Absolutely amazing mob of people in my opinion, especially my daughter, as she had put so much planning into this it would have been enough to send some people into depression I think.

We did the same weekend before last, but we got smart and got our daughter to get a man with a van. $425 for 2 trips. She mentioned that is was expensive, we didn't mention it was cheaper than the 2 nights accommodation we had to pay for so we could come down and help out.

She always seems to move when it's 35 degrees +.

Lucky if any water in O'neils Bay(dam below 30%_approx 27%), pretty sunny light winds.becoming northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in the evening, may get a shower of rain later in day which would improve situation. Dam is in a sorry state I recon this year.

Be good to get out though mate.

Took the new camper trailer out for its first shakedown run.
Backed it into place, pulled the pin from the McHitch... and the trailer starts rolling backwards....
Dive for the hand brake and stop the trailer from escaping.
Proceed to set up and enjoy the next 2 days.
Time to leave, where's the pin for the McHitch?
Remembering back to the setup I remembered that in my panic I put the pin on the rear bumper.
We had driven out to tour around the morning after we setup so the wife went walking.
She returned 20 minutes later and had the pin and clip. 700 metres down the road she found it on the side of the track.
I was pretty happy but now I think I will be posting in the 'angry' thread tomorrow if she doesn't stop gloating.

Yeah I dropped in there 6wks back and water was not even entering bay. The other day, those pic I posted(Eucumbene.R) we walked down stream 2-3 ks from Providence, only got a glimpse of dam body water. The willow weed on a flat stretch was up to my shoulders(hard going). Waded the stream most of time to get back thru that section. We actually lost each other as it was so hard to see and hear any other and after looking for my mate (of 73yrs) for a good 40 minutes, decided to head back to vehicle and he was there thank goodness. We caught / released a few though very quiet.

My car fridge doesn't have a temperature display, so previously I had a small digital thermometer that I threw into the fridge but constantly had to open it up to check the temperature and adjust the dial accordingly.
That just wouldn't do, so I bought a wireless unit and now have fridge temp and ambient temp which I can keep an eye on without having to go to the fridge. Much easier and great piece of mind.http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2019/02/125.jpg

What's made me happy today? Sweating my ring off working this Darwin contract. Can't usually drink much beer but buy stocks in Coopers coz production just went through the roof. Doesn't make you silly as it sweats straight out and tastes like mothers milk. Went for a walk around town tonight and found a pool comp happening in Hotel Darwin. Jeez haven't played in 15 years but what the hell. Won my first round! Eddie Charlton beat me by 2 balls in the 2nd. Met some ripping people. They're different up here, they talk to others outside their circle. I laughed a lot. They laughed a lot.

Don't listen to those clowns jay see they're bad eggs mate :) As saturated as I'm getting on a daily basis, this place is grouse. Even the locals are wet through just they're used to it. Spent 7 months here back in '96 and really enjoying the re-visit. Mornings are full on seriously humid, then during the day it's just plain hot with slightly less humidity. All good stuff.

Stayed with my mates brother and his family, they're still there and tells us that the amount of development that has happened is huge. We hired scooters for a day and ride across the city in less than 20 minutes, then got rained on and it got muggy as hell. We were there around the same time 96-97

Yeah mate it's developed a lot in the cbd. There were a few medium rises when i was last here, now plenty of high rise apartment buildings. Back in '96 i worked as a labourer on the Holiday Inn building on The Esplanade (now Mantra) and that was a big building back then. Plenty bigger now. Most of the surrounding suburbs are basically the same (a local might be better clued up), but Palmerston and surrounds have gone nuts and basically unrecognisable to what I remember. Huge development out there.

They do ask some doozies.
I have been here 56 years, arrived when I was 18 months, served in the military and voted since I was 18.
Apparently you can't do those things anymore unless you are a citizen.
Still made me pay the money and do the test.

since handing in my resignation, work is turning more and more sour. this is not something i saw coming but unfortunately the way it goes.

however, the biggest cause for contention has been a (newer)colleague of mine making waves re my training of him and our job. my main labour hire provider has been in touch with me this arvo to inform me that a dismantle my company is running is over a day behind, should have been 1 day only.

i feel vindicated in my voiced and shutdown concerns that my colleague wasnt ready for large scale organisation, which is part of my current role, are confirmed by the complete flop of this $50K activation. fortunately for me, i only have a week and a half to go. cant wait!
