Yesterday got to use the winch in anger and it performed perfectly.
Every time for the last 3 attempts to use it, it failed, corroded brush holders twice and remote died (the hand held wired controller was at home!).
Bellied out big time on a water diversion, couldn't go forward or back. A snatch wouldn't move the car so a double pull with the winch. It worked hard but it did the job.
That made me happy.

Haha snap!
Finished work at 4:30pm on Friday. Thought it was too early to go home so went up the local Hill for some peace n quiet and some easy tracks. Came across this sludge puddle, tried to straddle it in 2WD and slipped right in and went down down deeper and down, down to the bottom of the bullbar in fact. If I didn't have my winch, the Trol'd still be up there.

Indie rocker from Philadelphia in the USA. His latest album shot him to fame (not mainstream) around the world, I've never seen anyone appear so unprepared for success, he really looks like it all came from nowhere.

Yea its questionable.
That pic does make it worse. Its visible from vertical and the regs say 45 either way and from square and up.
Have to get it certified yet with new suspension and weights..
I may yet get a slim plate and make a stub on the wheel hub.

After 12 years, bloody hell, that's like going to school for the first day, I hope it works out well for you.
I've done alot of contracting work over the past 22 years. When I first started out I used to be pretty wary of things, didn't want to sit at the wrong desk, talk to the wrong person, not finish something in time. Now I just find out where the dunny & coffee is and let rest worry about itself.
Good luck mate.

Happy tonight that I hope we've saved some local lives. Young neighbours kid/18-22ish in a Toyoda ute has been terrorising the dirt roads with blind corners for the last week. Got a hold of his mobile number for some light life lesson 'discussions' together needed until his Daddy had to take over his arogant mobile chat. Happy also for a sort of apology via SMS 30 minutes after the men squared it all away for a hopeful bright local future:-)

Great movie, have it on DVD too.
Used to have the music as my ringtone.
Yeah but bit pissed off. Seven scenes cut out and added later as "out takes" which detracted from the film. Every time I've hired this film most of those scenes were in it. Must have hired "Directors Cut" versions the previous 6 times. Grrrr.

School Based Traineeships
This year one of our Year 10 students, Ebony Williams, was able to take advantage of a
great opportunity to begin a School Based Traineeship (SBT) with the local Department
of Parks and Wildlife. Ebony participated in the PDHS Work Experience program last
year at DPaW and they were so impressed with the attitude and work ethic she
displayed then, they offered her this Traineeship.
An SBT involves a student from Year 10,11 or 12 joining the workforce for one or two
days per week ( usually one day for Year 10’s) and being paid for the time they work as
well as completing a Certificate II or III in a related area. This means that students can
still work towards completing their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)
at the end of Year 12 at school, while gaining valuable work experience, getting paid and
completing the Certificate requirements for WACE as well. SBT’s can be applied for just
like a normal job application and are set up between the school, the employer and a
separate training authority. If any parents would like further information about these
opportunities please contact the school.
Ebony works at DPaW every Friday and some weekends and Public Holidays, and she
has been able to participate in a huge variety of programs from wildlife trapping and
population monitoring to customer service at many of the local National Parks. We
would like to thank DPaW and Tracey Robbins for the opportunity and experience they
have provided for one of our students, and congratulate Ebony for being an outstanding
ambassador for our school.

I'm in the same boat this today... Few days ago compressor stopped working. Then the illumination on the compressor and lights switches began playing up... So today I preppared to rip apart all the wiring and begin a saga of tracing the fault ...
First things first trace the ground wire... And lo and behold... The Common ground bolt next to the compressor under the hood was very loose. Tighten up and off we go ! Ha !

Having a couple of months supply of firewood dry and stacked in the shed makes me happy but knowing my son forked out over $700 for the new chainsaw he bought me has me saying he shouldn't have .
firewood stack is just over 7 metres long x 1.4 ish metres high , just enough for a couple of cold Victoriastan months but we're doing an 8 week trip to the corner country and beyond from May so it will be while before I use the new saw again .

It's really hard to find good quality firewood close to home here so we end up getting whatever we can and burning a shit load of wood.

About 70-80 Ks round trip just depends on where I go and when , never been to this spot before and it's only just been listed as ok for collecting wood , was hoping to get some red stringy but majority is gum or box and been down for years .
I try to get stuff that fits straight in the fire without splitting unless it's red stringy .
Son works for parks and knows where the good stuff is at and when new areas are opened up so that's handy , one spot near Whitfield has lots of big old box and gum down but too big for me to handle so someone's going to be lucky if they find the spot and want big stuff .
4wd is essential for both of these spots though which keeps out those who just have cars .

So what has it cost you all up to get this far, Kallen? I've been looking at doing something similar.
So far including initial van cost of $3000 I'm around the $5g total.
Thats full chassis and leaf setup, new axle, new stubs, new 10" brakes, 17" rims and tyres, new box.
Paint we had from house but outside paint was bought.
Fabric for inside for seats, 30mm solid bench tops, new floor.
Canvas is on the future list and is around $2g.
I personally think itll be worth it once all done, I'd get my money back.
But we're not planning to flip it. But build it to last where we plan to take it lol..

I met mudnutette's boyfriend's younger brothers today. They were shown around the place and got to meet the goats, play with the dogs and see some local wildlife. The whole time, the youngest was grabbing sticks, slamming them into anything within reach, piffing rocks everywhere, and just being an annoying, loud, rough-and-tumble kid, which is fine for the 1st 1/2 hour but got be a tad wearing after that.
I caught a cricket and dropped it into the youngster's outstretched hand. He screamed and took off across the paddock, a reaction I had not anticipated. After that he was quiet as a mouse.

So after my on going debacle regarding the rubbish dump from the previous owner I have had a win! Matfew came past this arvo for a sneaky homebrew, and a visit. Lol. While he was here a truck turns up with a bin on the back! I could not believe it. It seems the real estate agents have sent their own bin to my place to be filled. Soon after Matty left I proceeded to fill it, an hour and four stubbies later its filled. wOOt! Funny thing is the guy who was dropping the bin off knew of and had spoken with the old owner and knows what he was like.
So a small but, big, win for me today. Bring on Monday now!!!! Top end Fishin' time!

That's because it's an Oztent product and not their own
The instructions/warranty card said to contact OZtent if there were any warranty issues, so I did. They then said to contact the shop where I got it from, so I did.
They also said if there were any issues to contact them. Didn't have to, coz the new stretcher was posted out the next day.

Have bought a bit of stuff from them but did research first , the drawers were a Pia to fit but research I had done helped , the only thing that really didn't fit was the side inserts but I soon worked out the lugs screwed underneath were too far forward so I moved them 10 mm and fit was spot on .
Having said all that haven't had a warranty claim yet .

The fact I'm nearly finished distilling batch no2 , just three bottles to go , JB bottles have a JB taste and the rest are JD clones and vary from 40 to about 45 percent alcohol .
Second worst part of it all is I don't really like spirits , been a beer drinker since I got really crook skulling breathalyser busters 30 plus years ago .
Have to admit though they end up pretty close to what's on the bottle .

Going to play it smart. I'm going to let him decide on how much notice he wants.
Going to be a huge lifestyle change.
September this year would've been 19 years with about 12 months of that on day shift. To put it in perspective I've been married for 18 years this October and my kids have only known me doing this one job.
It's now not feasible to continue doing nightshift there, going to loss a day and a bit of paid and the future is unclear may go to a 8 hour shift.
The wife is trying to sort out a few things that's going through her head, so this change is definitely going to help her.
New place does a 10 hour day, 4 days a week, with a few hours of o/t on a Friday if you want to.
It's a pretty big pay change, but this needs to happen.
Happy wife, happy life....

Have just realized that I haven't said what the job is. Manufacturer of seating for coaches, buses, and light rail. They have the contract for all the new trams that are made in Melbourne. Start to finish even have a few installers that do some interstate work. They are moving in a couple of months to a newer larger place. As for the work environment can't really say, but was told that they're a good bunch of guys, some are long term 10+ years, gotta be better than the last place. Shift leader has had a attitude change that no-one likes we're under the pump always and the morale is just crap.
May even be able to make it to the donk party..

This is something I have to do once we get our new bub home from the hospital. I dont require as much as you guys as it doesnt really get as cold up here. I want to make a frame so I can keep the timber off the ground as I dont have any concrete to store it so the bottom layer tends to rot.

Bit cheaper down here, there's a lot of people selling wood this way. 90 odd per cubic metre but nobody measures it so you don't really know how much you're getting. And as said above, it's usually wet or green and not great to burn.
We were late this year so won't have the best wood to burn but will be more prepared next year.
I would never pay for fire wood though, I do enjoy collecting it.
