Bloody stupid night shift life..

Finished work Monday morning and have taken my only 2 work days this week off. Kids home and trying to get this packing all sorted. So that gives me the whole week off.
Packing side of things are slowly moving along, but fark if I can get a descent night sleep. End up falling asleep around 4-5 am and then I drag my sleep deprived ass out of bed around 10.
No motivation whatsoever and end up to bloody bugged to do anything.

This nights is pissing me right off
They have been juggling jobs and people for years know.

Sales have gone from nearly $40M to a forecast of $13M for the next financial year all in less then 10 years.
There are people who are happy to go with a package and some are happy to stay on. So I don't see a problem....

Sorry for the rant.
Probably could've gone in the angry thread.

Yeah mate, we don't realize how tough moving can be when we spend years gathering stuff.
As a former graveyarder, I can say green tea is good to stay awake and chamomile tea to help sleep.
These days, I drink green tea in the morning(stop before mid arvo) & chamomile tea at night.
Drinking lot of water after getting up from bed also help.

Night shifts are never easy for most guys.
I found out being strict with diet also helps a lot, though it's easier said than done.

The only reason I'm awake at this hour of the morning (03:54AM WST) is because of my hay fever.

It disappeared on holidays down the beach with the salt air, but soon as I came back to the Wheatbelt, it returned.

Oh well, better surf the net now that I'm awake. lol.

5am till 3am 3 days in a row 3 hrs sleep in 72 hours

Hmmm... I hope you're joking.
Intense sleep deprivation for three days in a row, is where they say a biological human starts to hallucinate.
3 hours of sleep in three days while working amounts to bit more than zero hours of sleep. It's a negative number, which is even more dangerous.
Experiments were performed on astronauts long long time ago.

I used to work permanent nights, loved it. Monday to Wednesday 5pm to 4:30am, Thursday 5pm to 1am. Usually home in bed by 5:30- 6am, then up at 12 or 1pm...... or if i did overtime finish at 6, in bed by 7am and up buy 2pm......... with a nice long weekend every weekend, or overtime on Saturday mornings if I wanted. I found it quite easy but I guess that's because I was always a night owl anyway and didn't have a family back then

Good ole "lifestyle" roster as they call it up here. Its not nice. I prefer more consistent shifts. Experience tells from about night 3 you are starting to be ok with it. Working mon-fri afternoon/night shifts (1600-0000) is easy as its consistent. 4-5-5-4 is hard to get use to. Danger hours are between 0300 and 0400.

Separating work from non-work is the hardest part.

Jimmyboyjr4

I feel if I tried to work from home I'd either get far too distracted ( Cars, PS4 etc..) or just grow to loathe my home as it would remind me of work.

I'm studying at the moment and as it stands I can't bring myself to study at home, was so bad I was considering renting a self storage unit and putting a desk in there to study haha

Well the 3 extra hours turned into 10 hours. Started 9pm. Were meant to be off the road by 4am. The pylon borer bursts a hose and is rendered immobile right before 4am. Mechanic comes out, fixes it by 6am. Ok beauty. But wait, the borer had more in store for us. The hydraulic pump lets go...
Just got home now 10 hours after scheduled finish. Hooray! Love night shifts!

I'm obviously missing something here, so you go on holiday only to come back and find that you have no job? How the feck can they do thatNot guite.
Ive got an injury going from work that hapoened many years ago and its flaired up, the week before i left.
Unfortunately a mix of it never being diagnosed propperly and not subbmitting a claim back when it happened have made it a pita with work cover.
Had a vein rupture on my shin, noithing crazy but its from my work boots as the lace ups rub and pull on this area...
So over holidays i was battling work cover when i had service, only to come home to still no determination and work havent let me back on site as i cant wear lace up boots, and its not approved claim yet.
However..
I am happy wearing elastic sided boots, bit of room and doesnt rub and pull on the injury..
And the doc has given the ok for that to happen.
This happened the week before i left..
But its sites policy for lace ups.
But its also the law that a company must make reasonable allowances for an injured worker to return to work, even if the injury was outside of work..
The elastic sided boots still meet australian standard.
But a mix of past history with my super, boots, and a few other things has landed us here..

Be an ass and go for the back pay , in my case they made me take holidays , RDO and sick pay only to end up putting it all back to where it was .Yea thats my thinking..

This thread wasn't created because of night shift workers, it was created for certain folk (who shall remain nameless) to run amuck in when the mods were in bed, instead of other threads. This retirement gig has turned me into a insomniac. Into bed at about 9pm, up again at about 3am. Next day, hit a wall at about 3pm, fight your was through it, start all over again. Lack of sleep is not the problem, as all my working life started at about 5am every day, and about 5-6 hours sleep was normal for me, something I've gotten used to. It's the new frequency that's getting to me. Not a lot you can do between 3pm and 9pm in the mornings. Don't want to disturb the neighbors banging around in the garage at that time of day. Might have to find some retired local members and start an early morning fishing club.

Thinking about mounting it on the cargo barrier. Will incorporate a 30amp charger & 1000w sine wave inverter. This re-heated Chinese food is not too bad ............. Oh well, not long until Bathurst starts. I'll be at my son's place helping him finishing off fitting a new clutch in a friends GU, while watching Bathurst on his new workshop 60" TV and downing a few ales. Not long to go now.
