I've just disconnected the battery to see if this helps but I have a feeling I need to bleed fuel into the pump maybe to get it started.
I also readjusted the rear sway bat links and changed the oil. ..

Hahahaha nope, just waiting to have enough coin again to swap out the stereo and put a 2din multi-use unit back in.

Like having the ability to run multiple gps apps at the same time. Sounds like a bit of an overkill but has helped out more times than I can remember as we all know different map providers have different levels / layers of detail in their maps, this way I get tons of coverage.

Will be getting a bluetooth OBDII unit as well to run in the back ground.

Well not today, but a week ago I put a carbi kit through after the dissy played up, as I though I had a tank of bad lpg as it misfired and backfired after leaving the servo near Bundanoon/Exeter. Played with the float again, solved most of my problems with a can of carbi cleaner and found that the float drop setting is just as important as its height(full) setting. Now it fills and stops on the sight glass dot, although the fuel return solenoid is stuck permanently in the full open position, which I assume will mean I lose some of my fuel bowl filling pressure at higher engine speed.

After rekitting the carb, I found a small rubber plug on the driveway, yesterday. The Gregorys manual shows a pic of it, it goes next to the accel plunger, manual says ball, spring, weight, PLUG. Dammit, I looked at the thing for a while and it didn't seem entirely unfamiliar to me. I pulled the carbi apart a few years ago with the same dramas, after neglecting to use the petrol system for too long, and recalled a small plug between the top cover and the main carbi body. The carbi still started on petrol without it, but stalled like it had been on lpg, which turned out to be the ignition module in the rb30 dissy playing silly buggers with me. One minute I had spark, next I didn't.

So, about today. I have to put the rubber plug back in. I hate finding left over bits. At least I hadn't driven around on the petrol and thought I had more issues, as the lpg is running without this tiny bung in place.
I could have saved a lot of time, and diagnosed the dissy problem straight away, if I had kept the petrol side up to scratch.

The old girl got new injectors and a service on the weekend. She had more grunt and runs a lot better now. The old injectors were still the originals and were clogged up. Clearly the previous owners did a fantastic job looking after the old girl. Oh well once I get a few more things done, she'll hopefully be in excellent condition and ready for some off road fun.

Check out my thread in my link to see how bad the injectors were.

Change of work duties for the wagon. Originally I was after a weekend wagon to go wheelin and camping in the bush with mates etc. and the Patrol fitted the bill perfectly. Didn't need a 4.2 to do this. Recently my wife decided she'd like to get a family sized caravan and get out and about. She doesn't do camping that well. This is something that I've also been thinking about for a while. So I started researching van, and family bunk vans with ensuites gross in at around 2.4-2.6T give or take. It was then that I discovered my beloved CRD auto was only good for 2.5T. Bummer, this could really limit our choice of vans, plus I hate with a passion running things to maximum capacity. So I needed a bigger towing capacity.

Given that the Patrol still ticks all the other boxes, I stuck with it. It also meant that I cound transfer all my mods over and continue on. Plus they sound good with a 3" exhaust :-)

Haha no problems, I should have included a side on shot, as apart from the obvious motor and gearbox difference (which you can't see) the only difference externally between the two is the 4.2 has white door handles and the CRD has chrome ones. Internally the 4.2 has a pocket above both rear wheel arches, where the CRD only has one on the right hand side. Oh yeah, the 4.2 doesn't have the 2nd rear air cond unit.

I remember reading somewhere (unsure if it's BS or not) that they are cambered to suit driving on the right hand side of the road????
So when over here the are extra out???

But.... I'd take it to another wheel alignment place. Say nothing and see the result.

When I laminated my diff they said it had bowed..... First alignment after doing it..
It's Been aligned by 4 different other places since and not one of them have mentioned a bent diff???
So was the first place trying to sucker more cash?? Or are the other 4 places lazy in their jobs???
Im not experiencing any steering issues or odd tyre wear so I'm running with place 1 wanted more money......

If the wheel bearings are to be offset, they would have to be smaller in size to fit in the hub wouldn't it? If so I would stick with the RTC and having the correct size bearings in personally. I'm keen to know more about the process of what you have been shown.

Surely it's not the "wheel" bearings that are offset, it's the swivel hub bearings isn't it?

I just put control arm spacers and castor bushes in mine to correct the castor, camber can't change unless something is bent or worn, which needs either fixing or offset bearings and toe in is adjustable.
It will be Castor (edited) that is pulling left

If bushes and spacers won't do enough for castor then offset bearings will help but dunno how you set them to correct a combination of camber and castor as never had to go that far myself.

Costs about a grand all up doesn't it ($500 a side) or can you get away with only doing the left

I was under the assumption that Nissan "over engineered" the Patrols. Hence the tough driveline we have. I would have though the suspension would be the same?

I am keen to see the outcome of this. The dude at Pro Axle showed me the adjustable top swivel hub bearing plate they sell, so you can adjust the camber of the wheel. It was around $280 fitted and adjusted from memory, but he said to me this wouldn't change the pulling left issue, it only straightens the wheel so you have even wear across the tyre. Not just wearing more on one edge of the tyre.
I took it that he is correct, but he may be incorrect, I'm only repeating what I was told...My head hurts now....
I suppose this is one of those things like why some ZD30's blow up and why we get the 80k wobbles. Sounds like theres no definitive answer.

But very keen on this. Very.

Sounds like a very knowledgeable man.

Many, many moons ago in my boy racer heyday it was often uneven Castor angles between the LH and RH suspension that caused a vehicle to pull one way or the other.

Toe in is used to stop twitchy steering over bumps or a vehicle trying to dart in to a corner
Incorrect toe should wear feathers across from the inside or outside edges of the tread

Camber is used to set up the correct angle of the tyre to the surface as the tyre deflects under cornering forces and should do sweet FA in a straight line if all else is OK (look at a V8 supercar for example)
Incorrect camber should wear evenly around the circumference of a tyre but more heavily from one side to the other across the tyre

I'm happy. Yes I spent more than was necessary, but at the moment I'm time poor and would really prefer spending the time I have on a track somewhere. There's also the case that the only place I talked to that had all the right answers this time was ARB.

This was a case of time verses money... Time won.

The young woman I talked to at TJM may have known what she was talking about, but I didn't get that feeling after our chat. It sounded like I was being given the same spiel they gave on the web site with no added information. The quoted price was no different so it's academic anyway.

The only alternative I would have had was to buy the kit and do it myself, or find an independent specialist to do the work. A little difficult to find where I live as it turns out.

Thats not very true.

The nissan engineers designed the front suspension to a specific ride height and amount of travel. There was no regard for the consumer to install suspension lifts, get more articulation, different offset rims etc. It was designed with small tolerances, which really isnt good, but for standard form it functions as it should and quite well.

Suspension is about comprimise. A change in geometry (ie lift kit) can effect other characteristics. In a setup like the patrol with its low margin of error design Something like a basic 2 inch lift can upset things. This is why there are what seems to be many causes for the death wobbles.

Interestingly, I found that these Bendix aftermarket pads contain less friction material compared to genuine Nissan pads.

Genuine pads front 12 mm aftermarket 9-10 mm, rear 10 mm aftermarket 8 mm.

Makes me wonder what is going on.
Well time will tell if it was the good decision to go with these fancy Bendix hybrid pads. They certainly have less "meat" on them than genuine Nissan ones.

Been pretty quiet on the modifications front for a little while now due to funds, however was changing over the tyres on the w/end and managed to snap a rear wheel stud!

Picked up a new stud from patrolpart today and will set about fixing it tonight

Not quite today, but having recently removed the rooftop tent I have now replaced it with the portable solar panels I previously carried inside the pod, (in addition to the cab mounted one which has had a frame height reduction). No more lugging panels around for me. :) Previously I attached the panel mounts on our bus using Sikaflex 11FC & rivets. Having learned a bit since then this time I only used Sikaflex 11FC. Sika recommend their 252 product which is stronger than 11FC provided the correct primer & Aktivator are use with it. It is *very* expensive & *much* harder to use though. Many folk I know have used 11FC alone very successfully, including on 4wd’s. To be sure I removed all paint from the areas to be glued, back to bare aluminium, & roughed it & the mounts up with 60 grit sandpaper, before giving both a good clean with isopropyl alcohol. I used cut up adhesive pads (as sold to put under chair & table legs) to ensure the right thickness of Sika (needs to be a ceratin thickness to allow for the expansiion/contraction of the roof & mounts). Ended up using 5 tubes of Sika to fit the 4 panels. The panels themselves are bolted to aluminium angle which in turn attaches to the angle glued to the roof using riv nuts & allen head bolts.

The front roof panel overhangs the pod roof by just a smidgen so ‘just to be sure’ I added an extra mount at each side of it. The rest are only mounted with mounts along their long sides. I’m confident they wont come off. They were tested at 130kph today, having allowed 3 days for the sika to cure.

Total panel wattage is 425w. Mounted as they are I expect their maximum combined output (i.e. if batteries are low enough to accept the max) to be around 25amps using the ’70% rule of thumb’ which allows for flat mounting ( this equates to between 100Ah to 150Ah on a good solar day, dependent upon time of year & location. Possibly down to 75Ah in Tassie in winter. So hopefully we are covered for any part of Australia at any time of the year. (Our battery capacity gives a minimum of a week’s buffer against poor solar weather or being camped under trees) without need to drive to recharge. This is more than many would need for short breaks or only running a single fridge .... my goal is indefinite self sufficiency in power with the batteries returned to a float charge most days (ensuring long life), whilst running a separate fridge & freezer, lights , radio water pump, 2 laptops & a few other gadgets.

Next is replacing the plastic gutters (cracked) on the pod with aluminium angle.

G’day Prez,
Dash cam is a Uniden & is a POS. Wouldn’t recommend it.It was a freebie with the CB when I bought it.

4 batteries :) Only the cranker under the bonnet, & 3 x 120Ah in the pod. All can be paralleled together which gives me the options of charging all 4 from solar, all 4 from mains charger, all 4 direct from alternator if pod batteries were to ever get low enough to warrant a higher bulk charge rate than the 40 amps dc to dc charger can give. Winch runs of cranker, but can add the pod batteries to them at the flick of a switch. Can also jump start the vehicle off the pod batteries using the switch. Reckon I’ve got all bases covered! :)

I’ve got another portable 100w folding panel & regulator which came with the Tvan, but as I’m not replacing the now dead Tvan battery I will probably mount it on the shed roof to charge a battery to run a composting toilet fan & a few LED lights. The HD cable I used with the roof panels when they were portable is now used to connect the Tvan to the batteries in the pod. I fitted a flush mount anderson plug fitting (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/705-53470-19255-0/1?campid=5336709507&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F705-53470-19255-0%2F1%3Fcampid%3D5336709507%26amp%3Btoolid%3D10001 %26amp%3Bmpre%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ebay.com.au %252Fitm%252F291105807560%253F_trksid%253Dp2057872 .m2749.l2649%2526amp%253BssPageName%253DSTRK%25253 AMEBIDX%25253AIT) today for that purpose. Almost 10 metres. Voltage gauge in Pod was reading 13.2v & the voltage gauge in the Tvan read 13.1v. I was happy with that. Not having a battery in the Tvan helps keep the drawbar weight down a bit.

I’ve fitted the new rain gutters on the pod now. Pr*ck of a job, took ages. Putting the ali angle on was easy enough, but getting all the silicon used previously to attach the plastic gutters was a real mission. Silicon should be banned from any surface which may ever need to cleaned! I was going to use adhesive (Fulaprene 303) to attach the aluminium, but the limited clearance underneath the door hinges meant that doing so would be very difficult without getting in an almighty mess, so I made the job super easy by using some 3M VHB tape.

Main comes on with ignition, also starting to run yellow RCA cable to the rear.
No idea where to fit the camera, Im thinking just above the towball, no rush
never needed it before so it should be interesting.
Plenty of space on the dash centre fascia for switches and gauges, would like to fit more.
Still need to move the UHF to the passenger side, and move the Cruise control light
up to the pillar pod, Plenty of 12v jobs left to do. Found some awesome leds to use

Mate once you have it you will never go without one again. I can reverse park right up to the car behind with ease then adjust my parking accordingly. I would be lost without the camera. Fitment under there is easy John. To run the wires though the sleeve all you do is unplug the sleeve ends from the car and door so the sleeve sits straight, then run the wire through. I taped the wire to a bit of coat hanger wire and pulled it though that way. Took no time at all.

Had a look at a 76 series on the local Toyota yard. Very impressed, especially the extra tonne towing capacity. V8 power, double diff locks, but very basic, just like my Ute.

When we buy our retirement roadblockwinabagocaravan we will need something to tow it. Until then it's back to the old reliable and back to work.

Have to wash my mouth out with soapy water hahaha

It's ok Macca,
I'll forgive you, I drove a pretty well modified 80 series for ten days in Broome recently (it was free).
Had a great time but oh how nice to get back into the Patrol when I returned.
Made me appreciate quality so much more.

Did the EGR block and removed the butterfly from this unit in the red circle in the air intake.

Fixed my engines reluctance to rev past 2,200rpm and it boosts earlier now. :icon_victory:

Installed an ebay remote central locking system. Why didn't I do this earlier?

Is there much involved, for an electronic retard.

Not overly, the instructions were in quite bad chinglish so that took a bit of working out. But other then that the hardest part was routing the trigger wires through to the drivers door. My patrol didn't have a grommet to the rubber conduit, it was a big arse plug from body to door. I got the drill onto it though. Less than $50 all up.

Got mine all back together finally last night. Started it up, let it warm up, and I can smell coolant but can't see it. Engine light is still on too. Now do I take some water with me and go for a drive or just leave it in the garage and just pretend the motor is fubar and I need to do a TD conversion? Lol.

take water with you,
try and isolate where that coolant smell is coming from first
might still be an easy fix,
does the ECU talk work on yours

ECU talk works with mine. I might drop over to Georges after I am sure there is no leaks and see what the error is. I also remove the air resonator box while everything was out and plumbed the vac line for the needle valve directly into the intake.

Take it for a drive. You need to be ready to come to Toolangi on the 30th

Absolutely nothing. Not touching it coz it might be traded in the next few days. Not spending any time or maoney on it if im getting rid of it.
