Old Man Emu suspension lift supplied and fitted by UV4x4. Think they said 51-110kg rated at front and we upgraded to 200kg in the rear due the weight of my Aramillo Camping trailer.
Not sure if it's my eyes so will check tomorrow but his ass seems to sit alittle higher than the front?? Will take a decent pic tomorrow after the snorkel goes on

Nice lift, what'd you pay for that?
Tonight I pulled my MAF sensor out to give it a clean and noticed it was absolutely spotless... I mean not even slightly greasy. What's the deal there?
I'm not sure if the dealer cleaned it up our maybe even replaced it, it looks brand new, in the hopes of hiding the issue with the intercooler?
Not sure.

Has a steel winch compatible bar on it - winch will come ... One day :)
I got dealership pricing because I work at "I bought a jeep" and I use them heaps for accessories - paid $2200 for the lift & a safari snorkel all supplied and fitted.
Just dropped him off this morning (literally across the road from work) and they dropped him over at 5 ... Ran outta time today so snorkel is going on tomorrow.

Nipped over to Lake Burrumbeet this arvo, with the intention to do some walking. Did a bit, but then decided to drive the Patrol round the lake. Deep washouts & potholes saw me having to use low range. However what should have been fun was horrible. *Every* time even the slightest amount of flex occurred the most awful & loud squeaking happened. I had suspected it might, I’ve noticed it occasionally when mounting kerbs etc & thought it was my rubber mounting of the pod when the chassis rails flex a bit. The noise was bad enough to spoil any enjoyment there might have been.
Got home & googled ‘4wd squeaks’ & found all references were to suspension. Went around the greasable shackles with the grease gun - have done this before, don’t forget *all* the suspension (springs - Leaf & coil, shocks & bushes) were new with the GVM upgrade, & not a heck of a lot of miles done since. Also liberally sprayed everywhere around springs & shocks with CRC - & then went for a drive through my local wood.
Came home with a big smile on my dial, the track was tight between trees, with a few deep puddles, plenty of washouts, drops over tree roots etc etc ...... & not a single bloody squeak! It would be nice if it is greasing the shackles which has done the job, but if the squeaks return I at least now know that it’s suspension & not pod related. I know CRC is not the answer, but it’s good to know where the problem lays.
Cuppa I get a squeak on articulation from one of my front springs, it stops for a while if sprayed with CRC, the mechanic said its nothing to worry about but its bloody annoying.

G`day Cuppa
Good to see you putting a couple of Ks on the truck mate.
With the greasable shackles you are always going to have this noise return so you may need to grease them fairly regularly.
Don`t over grease and wipe off excess as it attracts dust and dirt. You may have to check the leaf pads aswell These are the little leaf separators at the end of the leafs You should also check the "U" straps which are normally riveted to one of the lower leafs and hold the pack square as if the pack flexes alot these "U" plates can become noisy. A small amount of preventative maintenance and you`ll be all good.
Beers and Cheers Pearcey
PS please say g`day to Mrs Tea

Waited for the heat to die down a bit, (working in the sun on the driveway in 37 degree heat is not fun), then started pulling stuff off so I could do the carby plate mod, found out the nuts were seized, and the light was going, so that'll have to be next weekend.

Went for a cruise out to Mt Richmond, across to Cape Bridgewater, then around to Cape Nelson. I did this to deliberately run it out of fuel, to see how far a tank would get me. 505 km. I had 10 liters of fuel in a can and it was only 2.9 kms to the servo. All up, the tank took only 91 litres to fill. On one trip to Bendigo, we got to 492 km before we found a servo that was open. That was cutting it close.

I have finally installed the spare engine into the GQ. Woo Hoo!!!
The reason I couldnt get it to fit............. the spare engine has an aftermarket HD ribbed flywheel and clutch it installed. It has barley seen any use at all...(score!) however, the clutch plate would not fit over the drive shaft on the gearbox (This spare motor came out of another 1997 GQ RD28T) SO I replaced it with my original clutch plate from the dud engine which is worn but will do the job for now until I can get another clutch plate.
Now to button it up this week and get it running this weekend.

I will have to take a closer look. To be honest I have never really had a good look at the fitting on the diff. I know the transfer and gearbox are threaded. I had replace the OEM breather hose for longer ones and the barb looked to me it was simply welded onto the diff. As the barb more looks like a thin piece of tube and the breather hose was clamped onto it.
I need to do mine like Growlers but I will use rubber and one single hose running along the chassis from back (rear diff) to front in the engine bay, and the transfer, gearbox and front diff will simple join into this single hose via T pieces. I did this on my MK and it worked really well.

As much as is needed. The drain plug will probably be as hard. I used an electric impact gun to get the bastards out
Dales300exc
15th November 2014, 09:08 PM
Would not recommend impact equipment on fill/drain plugs. The rattling has a tendancy to round and then it makes the job harder. A good crack on the plug with a hammer should shock it enough.
Short of that get more leverage. Jack the car higher so you can get more swing. Use a breaker bar.
Unsure what vehicle you have, but assuming its just ya standard 1/2" plugs then make sure any mud is scraped out so a good purchase is acheived.

he had the front wheel off his GQ and was sitting in the cavity with a hammer, what ever he hit it rebounded hitting his head.
so he threw his head back hitting the inner guard bang then pushed his head forward hitting his forehead, which caused him to throw his head back you get the picture this continued till his brain stopped rattling and he came to a halt, He cracked a beer and PHSL

Motor in, loom all connected and running. Finally!
Just a few more things to do. Replace the clutch slave cylinder (one of the apprentices that was helping me jumped in and pushed the clutch in, while the slave cylinder was not connected to the clutch fork, and this has the pushrod all the way out of the slave cylinder) replace the starter motor and alternator (The ones from the donor motor aren't much chop) install the 2" lifted springs from the donor. Install the bonnet , front grille and lights.
After six months of the engine not running and sitting on my back porch, it fired up second go and no clouds of smoke and no leaks either! Not bad for an IT engineer.
Thanks to Rust Nail and Todd for their assistance earlier this year and helping me pull my engine out.
Woo Hoo! nearly ready for rego.

Extended the rear diff breather. Ran it up to the front. I went up the drivers side to stay away from the exhaust and cat converter with a rubber hose, is this what everyone else does. Just terminated it with a miniature in line fuel filter. I ran the hose behind the wiper motor, this gave me a nice radius on the hose to allow the breath to point back tow at the ground.
Might do the front 3 tonight, they're pretty high as it is, so not as much to gain and therefore lower in the priority list..

RD28T engine installed and all buttoned up (99% anyway) Bonnet installed and fixed the Alt circuit fuse, 75a, short issue. Turns out that I had connected the loom correctly. It was the second hand alternator from the donor motor was the issue where the main positive cable bolts to the post on the alternator. This post is supposed to have a plastic insulator around it and this was broken. Swapped the Alt for my original which is intact and all now working.
Only a few jobs to go:
1. Install tensioner pulley, for the AC condenser, and belt
2. Gas the AC system
3. Install the repaired front grille
4. Install the headlights and indicators
5. Drop the gearbox and install a new clutch plate for the HD exedy clutch kit and ribbed flywheel. (The clutch plate that was on the donor motors gearbox doesn't fit the input shaft on my gearbox)
6. Replace the clutch slave cylinder (One of the apprentices pushed the clutch in when it wasn't connected to the clutch fork and pushed the piston all the way out and blew the seals.)
Too hot to work on it anymore. Will have to work on it in the evenings this week.

Re-fitted the manual choke, using a hand throttle knob I picked up for $5.
The locking feature wasn't working, so I pushed out the roll pin, measured the hole and drilled through the neck of the knob to fit a cotter pin.
I have down this same mod to the original hand throttle when I first got the Old Trol.
I would have fitted the choke to the other side of the dash where the ready-made hole is, but the cable wasn't long enough.

After installing the second hand engine two weeks ago, found that when you release the clutch it made a horrible grinding noise until the clutch plate grabbed 100%
So, drop the gearbox and found the flywheel was scored.
Got my original flywheel, cleaned it up and spent an hour on it with some wet and dry 1500 grit and WD40. Cleaned up really well.
The pressure plate and clutch plate that came with the second hand engine are brand new so installed them on my original flywheel and put the gearbox back in.
Now the GQ runs quietly and is ready for a blue slip.

While I had the fan out I also took the housing out and found that the screen I fitted was fairly dusty and had some leaves and rat droppings on it. Completely rewired my radio setup in a bid to reduce engine noise on HF.
* ran LL200 in place of the crappy RG58/U coax.
* Moved the 2m/70cm antenna to the passenger side front bar, UHF CB is on the drivers side.
* Still using the Alinco DR-635T for UHF CB and Backup 2m/70cm... I really need to replace this unit though.
Testing a new HF setup:
* removed the RODA Screw Driver as it sits far too high on the spare tyre bracket and isn't allowed on the front bar.
Trialling new HF setup:
* Installed an Optek multi-tap antenna on the rear wheel bracket for HF. (tuned for 20m/14.200MHz)
* Installed LG-100 automatic antenna tuner on the Optek.
* Re-ran earthing lines to the tyre bracket, tuner and radio. I really need to buy a few meters of earthing braid :/
So far the results are promising.

Castor correction bushes came with the lift kit, and they are rubber ones so might as well use them. It's only a 2" lift so I thought drop boxes might be abit too much castor. It drives fine as it is but a little bit floaty so thought I would fit them too make it drive abit nicer when the Mrs drives is (yes I let her drive it) haha

Yes the drop boxes would be a bit much hey. Reckon it might have been a better option thats all. As I haven't heard anything good about using castor correction bushes. Got the arms back in and can see it sits on a better angle with the swivel hubs. Will see how it drives once I get it all back together, and how long the bushes last. They cost me nothing too put in except time so if they wear out quick I'll look at another option. Spends alot of its time on the blacktop at the moment so should get a decent run out of them (fingers crossed)

just got the chassis and underneath stripped back with wire wheel to loosen the surface rust and shit buildup and then had it sprayed with penatrol and rust proofed, yearly check and touchup $40 which is very good.
the bloke doing it said there was decent mix of beach and desert sand under it :)

Installed a GME UHF and aerial into the ashtray hole. Looks mint! Need a 90 degree connector for the aerial cable to clear the ac ducting but...
Also diagnosed a leaky clutch hose with some help from the blokes here.

What are you using to repaint the chassis? I'm thinking of doing the same. Using POR15 paint though.

Yeah I used a 50mm hole saw and cut the top out of the inner guards to allow access to the top of the shock the other week, need to take out some of the body lift and this will make part of it a little easier.

Is your on a GU or a GQ? I’ve got no body lift and I had to slightly trim the tower on one side and the shock bush retaining washer is above the wheel arch and inside the engine bay.
The passenger side was the easier of the 2 as the fuel filter bracket is on the driver side.

Well not much but i've finished all my dual battery system by just adding the final plug to the rear for solar panels and put up a webbing cargo net.. i know not many like the webbing nets but it works for my needs. Oh and i soaked my Burke & Will Nullarbor Swag twice and am just letting it dry in the sun.. I'm ready for the great outdoors nearly.. all whilst slamming some richie hawtin on the new speakers and warming up for a night at my local!

Repaired the rear tail light thanks to a couple of cable ties. The Y61 rear end is the ugliest, most poorly designed, piece of crapolla out there IMHO. That it pops indicators if you drag it on the ground is a joke, I'm tempted to go a steel bar just to get rid of it :/

Far out mate. Last outing gave you a bit of grief eyy...
I had the Patrol on stands before, cleaned, high pressure washed and gave it a good drenching with Ct18 underneath. Replaced air filter, cleaned MAF, took intercooler off and gave it a good clean and degrease as it was full of oil.
Rolled the winch rope out and gave that a nice clean as well. Time for a few coldies now...

probably just mud under the brushes

The charge actually drops when it rev it.

Finished installing the Tow Pro brake controller. Test on the vehicle using a test light as per manual showed it to be working correctly. Have checked the trailer plug wiring on the Tvan which appears to be correct (albeit that Track trailers use non standard colours for brake actuation & earth). Tomorrow we’ll have to drag the Tvan out of the garage & take it for a spin to calibrate the unit.
