Maybe bite the bullet, remove the front seat and cut the door trim open. Cheaper than some other suggestions.

How's that for being constructive and sympathetic?

Probably won't help if it the same problem I had with the actual locking mechanism being broken as the connecting rods won't unlock it.
Only suggestion is to see a panel beater as they must have seen it before or Mr Nissan as a safety issue. Good luck and let us know how it eventually works as it will happen to more and more of us over time.
