I could easily make a similar plate, even thicker and out of bizoloy for probably $10 max in material cost, plus say $15 worth of bolts and washers.
Are these "bought" ones tested and stamped with a load rating?
No, I don't make them, and not trying to drum up work, but I tell ya what, I'm thinking of it!!
Go for it ferret - I'll take two fronts mounts thanks!! I agree mate - seems a lot of coin for some smallish pieces of metal - and for that money, they'd want to have a load rating stamped on them!!

I priced around looking for recovery points, ARB were selling ones similiar to what I bought for $110. Went to a metal fabricator who quoted $200 to make a similar plate, the one I bought was from outback ideas and cost $55, So I thought it was a good deal.
    Cheers Mick

Are any of the recovery points that you looked at load rated and stamped?

NO they don't have any stamps, but was told by both ARB and OL that they would easily hold 10T. Outback ideas appear to be the main manufacturer of these plates. The metal fabricator that I had a chat with said that they would hold well over 10000kg, but he wanted $200 for each point.
    Cheers Mick

Sorry Bigrig, can't help you atm, I would need quite a few orders to be able to organise the laser cutter to cut a heap and be able to offer them at a fair price.
If there is a fair bit of interest, I would have a hundred cut at a time.
    Cheers Rod.

I hear you boss and not having a shot, but what they "tell you" won't stand up in court! They need to be load rated and stamped.

I don't think any of the aftermarket recovery points are load rated as Mick has found so far, so it's just a matter of installing the strongest and safest recovery points available so they are not the weak link in a recovery. If it can't be made legal at least make safe.

The only rated recovery/tow hook found was at Supercheap, 4.5t and cost $30.00, plus I would have to drill holes in chasis to fit. Was only held on by two bolts and had a retainer clip to hold your recovery equipment in place. I was not keen on this idea, especially if the trol is belly deep in mud, that type of point just wont cut it.

I think you will find most of the aftermarket recovery points are drilled to accept the the type of rated hooks you saw at Superthief.
