    Strange knocking sound

    Greetings

I was driving from Sydney to Newcastle the other day and when I came off the motorway, a strange knocking sound that sounded like a CV joint starting coming from under the driver wheel when I did left hand turn on roundabouts and corners. However, when I got home, I went out to refuel a few hours later and the car would not make the sound again. I was wondering whether it was due to driving two hours straight on morotway and something got hot. Does this sound possible or what do you think it might be?

Does it have manual freewheeling hubs? I'd assume that there shouldn't be any cv movement if you're driving in 2wd and have the hubs disengaged.

Sounds like one of those pesky cyclists and he managed to pry himself loose once you'd stopped for a while

The whole front end was done about a year ago by previous owner (my brother - a mechanic) and it has not been offroad. He said he noticed the noise before he did front end. He jumped on it and did everything and could not find the noise.
CV joints have been repacked, wheel bearings done, new shocks, new sway bar. He said the sway bar was not genuine, so it could be because of that. I will keep an eye (or rather - ear) on it.

Yeah, I have had that same sound come and go. I took the trol to a mech and he put it on a hoist and we looked for a problem. The only thing we found was that there was a very small shiny edge on the front left hand brake disc. Which indicated that a stone must have become wedged somehow. The sound went away for a couple of months, but yesterday, I did a hard right hand turn and the Knocking noise came back at the apex of the turn, then stopped... Weird or what. Mine has manual hubs and both front wheel bearings have been repacked recently.

Nah, mate, definitely a rotating part. Too much grease in hub lock? But I think that would make the hub pull into lock position wouldn't it.
