Appreciate there's a couple of other Insurance threads floating around but I think you guys will like to read this.
I've been calling Insurance companies today trying to get quotes. Mobs such as RACV, AAMI, GIO, JUST CAR.. they really don't want to insure your 4WD when it's modified.
Now I've just bought another Patrol and the modifications and accessories is somewhat extensive. After relaying the mod list to the bloke at AAMI, he was huffing and puffing because;
a) he couldn't find most of the items in his "form"
b) He ran out of room in the "notes" section
c) Maybe he has trouble breathing
After mucking around, they wont touch me due to an after market Turbo. As soon as you mention Turbo, you have HOON plastered all over your name.
I got onto DGA Insurance Brokers who I see are recommended by quite a few people.
They shot me back a quote of $1517.00. This was already hundreds of dollars cheaper than the other mobs. This also covers me ANYWHERE (lol AB) in Australia. Rivers, Sand dunes, unnamed tracks, your back yard.. anywhere. Also, they cover ANY modification. None of this "if it doesn't pass a RWC, we can't insure it" crap. Any mods. That's great!
The lady is very nice and helpful there. She managed to get the price down further for me to a final sum of $1300.00 p/a with an excess of $500.
Personal items and camping gear covered for $1000.00 including GPS. Not bad. To top it off, they'll cover me for an agreed value which is fantastic. Market value on GU Patrols is about $20,000. There's no way I was going to get insurance and only be covered up to $20,000.
So I'm very happy with the outcome. There's also a 21day cooling off period so If I don't like it, I can get out which is handy.
I'd recommend any keen/serious 4wd'ers to give them a call. $1300 might sound a lot to some people but the peace of mind is worth it.
