Well the 1st time we used it was at greens lake with mudnut, percey and tpc and it was windy, but it held up well. Haven't done snow yet and it had one of the better warranties..

You can spend up $5k plus but this is well priced for what you get and suits us..

My van got hit with a couple of wind blasts that rocked it badly. I thought you two in the rooftop unit would have been knocked around pretty badly, but you said you had a pretty good nights sleep.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Yeah, it was the noise of the wind that kept me awake mostly..

Looks like the last trip has hurt the patrol a little.

The last few days on the trip it wouldn't move when in drive and cold, but once the trans was up to temp it was fine. It also worked in 1st and 2nd but not in drive while cold.

So I spoke to a couple auto builders and both said it sounds like one of the seals has given up out of just age. They were surprised that I've got that many kms out of it. For those who don't know it's got 580,000 and an unopened tb45.

Been priced around the 4500-5000 for a rebuild. This has got me thinking, I want to get it built to suit the longer trips that we have been doing, then I got thinking about how much longer this engine will last and this has brought me to getting the auto built to suit a LS.

Even if the LS doesn't happen and the old donk keeps on rolling at least the auto will be up to the task.

    Best I stop thinking...

It all depends on how deep you're willing to raid your pockets. If you sell it, without the ls conversion, the built trans could bump up the value a bit too.

    Not going to sell it.
Will cost way too much to buy and then set up a 62. At the moment it's an auto bout 5k add LS say 30k drive in drive out. Tops 50k. What kind of 62 will I get with 50k and I know what mine is like and it's on club reg.

Don't forget John, you're throwing , as you said, possibly $50k, at a car/body thats done 580k. Thats a lot of money, that cab buy a lot of 4x4 nowdays. Don't know why the aim is at the 62... That's a entirely different league to what you've got at the moment mate.

Would a manual transmission be an option?

I don't have a good feeling about sacrificing a good trusty car on an engine conversion. It is never like you see on "discovery turbo", LOL. You would be fixing small or big things for the rest of your time with the car until you get fed up of it. I'd rather give the transmission a good rebuild or even source a new one. Same with the TB45 when the time comes. Specially where you guys are, where you have access to the parts and to the professionals.

And lets say you are tired of the engine performance, I still think it would be less hassle finding a lower-mileage (than yours) TB48 and moving your camping setup over to the new Patrol.

Why is a turbo tb45 not an option?
    Feel your pain though.
What's a second hand box worth these days?

I know that the body is good and I don't like the dual cabs. The 62 is only because it's a v8, not getting one of those.

No. Physically and legally I'm not allowed to drive a manual car.

I hear what your saying, but know that I won't be truly satisfied. I'm a revhead first.

I actually have a sump and manifold to suit, but I'm scared that the little boost say 6 ish pounds will hurt the motor as it is and I still do have the power that I'm after.

Second hand I won't go there. These will all have a lot of km.
