Anyone notice that when you get double rainbows the colours of the second one are reversed? Not sure why this is.

Anyone notice that when you get double rainbows the colours of the second one are reversed? Not sure why this is.

I heard or read about this only within the last 12 months too cuppa and next time I saw a double rainbow I took notice of the colour order and yes they are reversed. From what I remember it's something to do with a re-refraction, or reflection of the main rainbow. Apparently there's only one rainbow but in some circumstances the angle of the light re-refracts that rainbow through the rain, hence it's colour order is reversed. It's a reflection of a refraction so I'd say that's two rainbows but apparently it's one plus a reflection of that one meaning it's only one. Hey, imagine how good it would be if this was the biggest dispute getting around! It's interesting though. Maybe a question for Dr Karl!
