It's easy as Eric. Mark is on the money. Remove the pipe work, undo the 4 bolts that hold it on the Intercooler. You'll then see 2 little brass screws that hold the butterfly to the spindle, simply unscrew them. They're a bit tight so be careful not to butcher the screw heads. Reassemble. It would be virtually next to impossible to do it on the car. You'll end up with these bits left over.
I got it off the forum (or the other one, can't remember) on the benefits of removing it. It certainly fixed my flatspot at about 2,100rpm. Can't comment on what it did to my boost as my boost is wound up a bit (12psi) through a boost controller gadget.
