The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

The guard chop has begun. I might do another thread in the DIY section with these pics too.

Guard cover comes off. I didn't really think about taking this off when I did the respray so the paint won't be finished nicely. Oh well.

Damn the flares have been installed for keeps. 10mm bolt and nut every 50mm!!! Damn it!!! They don't want to come undone.

    Guard cover off finally

    Marked up the new line.

So I marked a second Line a good 25mm in which will be the new tab and fold.

I cut along the inner line and then folded to the finish line. A few years ago I bought 2 pair of these wide nose vice grips. They are the bomb.

With the clamp set at firm but not full grip the fold and you can use the vice grip to flatten it out. Just increase the vice in stages and keep resetting, works great.

Using 2 pair for the win

I have a cheap set of panel hammers and dies ($30) and these really help allot. Use the die behind the panel and hit the panel

To stop kinks forming I made 3 cuts on the curve at the bottom

    Cheap die.

Running out of hands to take pics.

You should be able to get things fairly flat and the foot edge pretty sharp. Don't be shy.

So the back of the guard was repaired by me using fiberglass which won't like being folded. Oh well.

Started raining. 1 guard done. Needs a clean up but will work a treat

Ok so your going to the trouble and this thing won't be road legal.
So why not extend your read shock mounts higher to allow the longer shock and shorter springs.
Then you'll need to keep the body lift.
    Cheers

At this stage if I get pinned I can remove the lift and refit the 2"lift that Mego dropped back yesterday, get the car cleared over the pits and be in business pretty quickly. If I start cutting shock towers off or re welding for Long Arms it will be much more difficult to get out of trouble.

That's why when he goes out he's gone for 24 hour stuck in 1 bog hole. Hahaha

Looks awesome there Darren. I reckon when I get the chance to get another gq I will be going through this build and looking super close.

So got the other rear guard cut today.

Note the flares and mud flaps have been fixed permanently to the car. Pain in the ass to remove them.

Also removed my rear drawer setup which I am going to sell. Anyone interested let me know.

That's what it looks like rolling on a swag trip. Such a great setup, gunna miss it!!

Out it comes to make way for this monster that won't fit on the door any more

Test fit then out to install some tie downs.

Bought this from Aldi a couple of months ago especially for this job. Going to work a treat and was under $30

Removed the short section of strap as I don't need it.

4 baby seat tie down points and jobs done!!

    Good to go! Happy dayz!

I will make a full depth full width shelf at window height or a little above the tyre so I can load it up. Pretty happy with it until I want to go away for a trip then Fark knows where everything will go????? Need to learn a new system, those drawers have served me well, going to miss that.
