Just one thing to put a dampener on the day...

When I was lifting the battery into position, the stupid bloody handle broke causing the battery to drop down and land on top of the guard, put a nice dent in it

More swear words were said and lessons learned. ALWAYS put something over the guard when doing this!

The handle on the battery was on of those rope type jobs with the plastic tube to grip. It just cut through the rope where it goes through the battery.

    That's a shame.

Even Nissan tossed the foam seal away and gooped up to seal my snorkel

It's pretty neat hey. I got the panel from a member named Woodizz on the P4x4 forum, cost $30 including postage and comes laser cut and fits perrrfectly.

The only thing I found was the panel is too thick where the switches go through. The Carling switches have the little spring plastic clips that squish and then expand on the inside of the hole, but you'll notice that when you squish them the other end of the clip opens up and allows the switch to separate. The thick material was holding the clips in the squished position which allowed the switches to separate when connecting/removing the wires. I ended up with a car full of springs and switch mechanisms.

So out it came and I attacked it with a file and just bevelled the inside edges to allow the switch clips to open back up again inside the hole, took about 10 minutes and works perfectly now.

Question: That tiny little drain hole in the airbox, you know the one that's about 4mm in diameter. I'm assuming/appreciating this needs to be blocked off otherwise what's he point of the snorkel. How then does the airbox deal with rain, hoses from washing the car, etc. that will inevitably end up going down the snorkel? Surely, if you ended up with a bit of water in there, and it wouldn't be that hard to do, it will pool and turn the paper air filter element to mush in no time at all.

In saying this, all the tell tail mud splatter stains on the inside of the airbox all indicate that the muddy water came UP THROUGH this little hole, so maybe blocking it off does more good than harm.
    Cheers Rod

Finished off my rear door table on the weekend.

Pretty happy with how it came up

Also extended my rear diff breather last night, might do the the other 3 tonight but they're pretty high up anyway.
    Cheers Rod

I blocked mine off and have had no issues since I did it in 2009

Ok. I was thinking of 3 options.

1 - fill it with Sikaflex, pretty permanent solution
2 - put a self tapper in it, allows it to be opened up or closed off as required, ie: remove it for the wheelin weekend
3 - leave it open and if required put a blob of grease on it before tackling a big crossing.
