Thumbs up Finally did it! Or, why I like farm tractors...

Got my old Patrol stuck in the mud. First time since I bought it three years ago. A soft spot in the much allowed my machine to sink in up to the bottom of the door. I assume everyone has heard that mud sucking vacuum sound?

I had to march out of the bush and hunt for a recovery vehicle in a little village. Luckily a guy had a brand new front end loader that pulled it out. And luckily I was only about 2km back from the main road.

I had a shovel and I could easily push it down into the mud about 3 feet with little resistance.

Do I get a merit badge for getting it stuck or getting it unstuck?

You were lucky it was only a 2k hike, mate. I did the "I will just check out this little track on the way home" trick, and ended up having to hike 6ks to the nearest farm house, then got a lift into town and had to wait for my wife to fetch me. I then had to get a mate to drive me out to the track the next morning and recover the car from the deceptively soft ground. So do you still think you deserve a medal?

Was that your first time getting it stuck? If so, perhaps we both need a medal!

very lucky I personally carry enough gear to afford a self reconery.
not good putting pressure on others for a simple mistake.
Lucky you found some one willing to help, so a good result in the end
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

Really stuck, yes. Other times a lot of digging and packing stuff under the wheels got me out. The track didn't look too bad, but I was a real newb and it was before I had a chance to really know the limits of the the vehicle. Since then I have bought most of the right gear, but my hi-lift jack is bent, (dangerous things indeed). I need to get an exhaust jack and I will be prepared for self recovery.

I had drove through that spot dozens of time; but I guess there is still a lot of water in the ground from spring. I don't have a lift jack - though I think it would have just sank in the mud too; and a winch may not have been of use given that there were no anchor points out on the steppe near where I was stuck. I think I needs to be more careful when its wet; though soon here it will only be dry and dusty and the sand will be my worst enemy.

I should study up on the self-recovery.

Coin - from the sound of him it looked like he had already had a fair share of the local vodka...
