OK he just got back to me and said those tyres you mentioned Ian are way over priced for what you get and said he can get a tyre called the Black Lion that is hard wearing and has a very heavy load rating..

He said he can do 6 tyres and rims for $1600

Thanks Cuppa, you are pretty much receproacting my thoughts.

If push comes to shove then I definatly want something thats going to be repairable out on the tracks, plus at the end of the day I think black steelies look the business!!!

Would be interesting though to wack a pair of steelies and alloys on the scales to see just how much of a weight difference there is.

Thanks BA, $1600 for 6 wheels & tyres is a very attractive price, over $500 less than if I bought the ROH rims George has been quoted on & the Bridgestone D697's at my locally quoted price. That is a lot of savings but I reckon I might give it a miss. I may be crazy & missing out on a real bargain, but basically I'd rather buy tyres that I've heard of, & can get replacements for relatively easily in outback woop woop should the need ever arise. Thanks for checking it out though. Did he give a price on just the ROH rims at all?

Other's will know, I'm only guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised if on a 16" rim & tyre combo that a fair bit more of the total weight would be the tyre, especially if running LT tyres.

And just to throw more fat on the fire (& thinking aloud in case anyone should think I'm trying to contradict what they've already told me - I'm not, just trying to process 'new info') ...... a couple of the wheel places I've rung today have informed me that the stock Patrol 16x8 offset is Pos 10mm (as others here have said) & that to run 265's I should get a zero offset wheel, not a neg 13mm. I wish I didn't keep getting conflicting bloody info! I've had enough of it, & know that neg 13 will do the job 'cos I've seen 'em on Maccas truck, besides if they stick out a tad more than they really need to so what, doesn't really matter does it? Neg 13mm moves the wheel 23mm 'outward' rather than the 10mm 'outward' a zero offset would achieve. 10mm seems a bit too close If I went with zero & got rims & they rubbed I'd then be up for getting them machined & rewelded plus repainted which would not make me a happy chappy whereas having a little extra space between my tyres & the chassis does no harm.

SO....... George can the place you got quoted on the ROH's supply tyres too, & if so could they price a package deal on rims plus 265/75LT Bridgestone D697's (fitted & balanced if possible) or do you think i'd be better getting them fitted locally in case I get any post fitting 'wobble' problems?

any offset you want. plus you wont look like everyone else. If i wanted load carrying I ring them at the
    drop of a hat
I did ring them TD, but seem to have 'lost' the response I thought I'd posted here (I know I wrote it, but perhaps I closed a window without actually posting it).
$340 per rim is out of my league unfortunately, no matter how good they are.
The bloke there seemed pretty good to talk to & even advised me that I'd be better off buying off the shelf if I could. He mentioned those 2100kg mine spec 16x7's I referred to earlier & reckoned I'd have no problem running 265/75's on them. He also said that he could change the offset in any wheels for $70 each.
When I told him I'd be running at close to 4 tonne, his view was that the 1200kg rated wheels like ROH & King should be quite adequate particularly as their rating allows for some leeway.
