Yeah, what is the name of that drive? Skytrek?

Ridgetop Track.

Cuppa
25th February 2015, 10:07 PM
Yes it is at Arkaroola, but I asked for the name & Sillers Lookout it is. No it’s not actually on the Skytrek (self drive 4wd route) but is on the accompanied 4wd ridge top tour. It was made famous in a TV commercial for a car ....... but for the life of me I can’t find a reference anywhere to what car it was. Does anyone know? Going up there in the back of a 4wd ute (a T*yota iirc) with a dozen passengers was pretty impressive. Virtually no revs & I was hanging over the side watching the wheels, & just the occasional half a revolution wheelspin.

So who should go next? Rossco for Arkaroola or TPC for Sillers Lookout, both correct, although TPC is a bit more accurate. I’ll let you decide whether you’ll be gentlemen or engage in virtual fisticuffs for the honour .......... The next pic put up will no doubt reveal to us all the outcome of whichever process you adopt! Ha Ha.

Tjaynera Falls? (Sandy Creek Falls)

P4trol
11th March 2015, 08:13 PM
That's the one! Part of the magic is that it's a couple of km walk to get to it. Many cars turn up to the car park, do a slow loop, and keep going.

No crocs.

Two ways to get to it. The track really only opens when it is pretty dry, and there is no risk. The Reynolds River track runs between the litchfield loop, and Daly River road. It crosses the Reynolds River three times. Commonly these crossings can be bonnet height. The black soil would be barrels of fun at the same time. Unfortunately during this trip it was pretty dry, with only one crossing with water, and only wheel high.

I'll post a couple more pics if people wish, of the track etc. Not to be confused with the next where is it pic by the queenslander.

That’d be good. Seems I didn’t get to see all of Litchfield. Another place to add to the ‘return to’ list. We drove in on the bitumen, & the only place I recall going to ‘off road’ was the ‘Lost City’. I recall now someone telling us about a ‘back way’ into the NP which was reputed to be fairly ‘gnarly & steep’.

P4trol
12th March 2015, 12:14 PM
Lol. That track isn't gnarly or steep. It's just a bit fun when wet, but not too wet. You won't get the bus in though.

It is a little further south than the lost city. The closer waterfalls in litchfield are known as the 'tourist traps'. Most people are happy with these waterholes, and you can access mostly by bitumen.

Maybe I’ve mis-recalled what we were told, but certainly were told we wouldn’t get our bus through that way.
Went to the Lost City on motorcycles, (way too tight to get the bus in there!). I reckoned it was the highlight of our time in Litchfield, mainly because it got us away from the hordes of coach-bound tourists. Next time we’re up that way we’ll be in the Patrol.

Rossco

Looks like a big red gum, which doesn't narrow it down much. . . Murray somewhere? ?

jack
19th March 2015, 09:58 AM
maybe a flood mark?

mudnut
19th March 2015, 11:35 AM
No, not a camera, or flood mark, not the Murray. This object has been in the tree for a very long time.

threedogs
19th March 2015, 11:52 AM
is that some kind of marker for the Paddle steamers along the say Darling River

mudnut
19th March 2015, 12:07 PM
No, TD. Not a river marker. Hint, the white plate has been placed there to highlight the object for tourists.

Rossco
19th March 2015, 12:19 PM

mudnut

Sorry, but nothing to do with communication.

threedogs
19th March 2015, 12:43 PM
So you do a tourist route and follow all these markers as POI, like follow Hume and Hovell etc

mudnut
19th March 2015, 04:53 PM
No, the object was buried deep in the tree, many, many years ago. There is a bitumen road through the property, now. Think rural activities, and what could be a sharp enough object to pierce red gum so deep it can't be removed.

There is a story behind it but can`t remember
But lets see if I`m right

mudnut
20th March 2015, 10:31 AM
Yep, you got it, pearcy. Your turn. It is the Shearing Tree. The tree was close to the shearing shed and yards. During their breaks, the shearers used to play a game of "darts" using the broken shearing blades. This particular blade got stuck and has moved up as the tree has grown.

Well it is pigeon house mountain! But this is the first time you mentioned it.

Pigeon house mountain can be seen on a clear day (with binoculars) from some of the high spots around Canberra. It was named because the top looks like a... Pigeon house.

So for others that haven't been up: you can get to it a few ways. The first is south of burrill Lake (near burrill pines motel/camp ground. Great place to stay BTW!) The other way is North of Milton (which is just north of Ulladulla.)

Nice dirt road drive that any car can do to the bottom car park.

The walk has 3 or 4 distinct sections.

First is steep uphill (2km as a rough estimate).

Then 2km of flat easy.

Then more uphill/steps.

Then the 'new' (last 10 years) steps to the top.

Some days you get a clear view, other days are pure fog. The castle is easily seen from the top.

Don't try any fancy alternate routes in the way down, and you'll arrive back at the car park.
