    Question Y61 TB45E - GN Relay Coil Feed Missing, Starts When Relay Is Jumped

    Vehicle:
    1999 Nissan Patrol Y61 TB45E petrol
    LHD GCC/Dubai import
    Problem:
    The vehicle will not start normally.
    It starts and runs perfectly if I manually power the GN relay output circuit.
    What I have confirmed so far:
    Interior fuse box has been replaced with another unit.
    Relay #2 (GN relay) is good.
    Relay #3 (AC relay) operates normally.
    GN relay contact feed has battery voltage.
    GN relay ground is good.
    Manually feeding GN relay coil causes relay to click.
    Jumping GN relay contact feed to output powers the METER circuit and the vehicle starts and runs normally.
    Relay #2 measurements:
    Key ON:
    A = 0V
    B = 0V
    C = 12V
    D = 0.21V
    Key OFF resistance:
    A = OL
    B = 0.05Ω to ground
    C = OL
    D = 0.36Ω
    This indicates:
    Relay coil ground exists.
    Relay coil power is missing.
    Relay itself works.
    Additional findings:
    Instrument cluster was removed because it blows the METER fuse when connected.
    Rear wiper connector was found melted.
    Ignition switch connector has multiple ON outputs present:
    Blue = 12V
    White/Red = 12V
    Yellow/Black = 12V
    Black/White = 12V
    There are also aftermarket yellow crimp connectors/splices in the ignition harness under the steering column.
    My question:
    Has anyone seen a Y61 where the GN relay coil feed disappears between the ignition switch and fuse box?
    Does anyone know:
    What feeds GN relay coil terminal A?
    Which connector and wire color feed GN relay pin A at the back of the fuse box?
    Any known SMJ, immobilizer, alarm, or GCC-specific modules that interrupt this circuit?
    At this point the truck starts if GN relay output is manually powered, so I am trying to locate the missing trigger feed to the GN relay coil.

    Sounds like your electrical system has been well butchered right down to the exchange of the fuse box. That may indicate the actual feed supply has been permanently deleted - why I dont know, however if it runs with power, why not simply run a supply off the ignition supply circuit to a relay and trigger it that way? I dont have this model, so cant help with the specifics you seek, but what is the purpose of the GN relay as suc - does it only need to stay on for a momentary start period or constantly on whilst the motor is running?
    Lastly, if you did an introduction post it might be reflected in additional responses, instead of posting a problem and expecting a comprehensive reply?

    It sounds as if someone has fitted an alarm/ anti -theft system and it has failed and been ripped out. If those connectors have been crimped with pliers and not a proper tool, there is a good chance one for the relay has a high resistance or open circuit. You can buy good connectors that solder and heat shrink by using a hot air gun. As for the instrument cluster, you might need to source one from a wrecker.
    My advice is: not to follow my advice.
