My first was a G60 SWB purchased in 1984 BWpaper700.jpgG60-1984-750.jpg
It evolved over the next few years. Initially I put on 10.5x32x 15 Mud Terrains, shortly followed by a 400ci Small block Chev mated up to the 3 speed crunchy box. The engine was balanced had double hump fuely heads, 10.7:1 compression, torquer 2 manifold, many different carbys (looking for something that ran on angles), custom extractors and intake. I can't remember the cam but idled kinda OK and made close to 400hp on the dyno. A bit later 33 inch Samyang MT. Yep; at around 86 inch wheel base it was a handful without power steering and real brakes etc. After several breakages we adapted a 9" front diff into it using 30 spline Toyota axles and disk brakes. The rear diff never broke and proved quite tough, although the rear prop shaft broke a couple of times.
Since then we adapted a ford top loader 4 speed and after that a turbo 400 auto, 35 inch Mud terrains. The Black and white image was taken by the local paper back in the day. I believe it was at Forrest Frolics an event that was once run by the Geelong 4X4 club.
