    Question tacho signal wire in gq 1993 tb42

    Hi everyone does any one know the colour of the wire that connects to the tacho either in the dash or at the computer plug of a GQ patrol 1993 as i have done an engine conversion and want to hook the tacho back up so i need the wire colour/location to hook the interface signal converter

    vehicle was a (tb42 EFI) now converted to a holden 5 litre
    just want some form of idea how hard im pushin my rig

    Yeah man did the trick might even get enthusiastic and rig up the oil pressure gauge now lol

    The standard tacho will not be accurate as it is for a 6 and not an 8

    Gday I know this is an old thread but if I was to be running a carby set up could I take that yellow and black wire from the ecu plug and put it to the negative side of the coil for the tacho to work

    You will need to establish if the ECM ( engine control module) is still providing a viable signal. The TB42S (carby) gets a signal from the coil or some use an engine revolution sensor to provide that signal. Maybe you can obtain a carby tacho, swap it out of the gauge cluster and rewire it to the coil.

    Download the workshop manuals to see what works for you.
    My advice is: not to follow my advice.

    Thanks for the reply mate I’ll look into the carby tacho. Have you any idea where the ecu for the tb42e gets the signal to send to the tacho.
