    The feed is from an accessory fuse panel, so yes its fused, I have generated more than my share of smoke events to not go that path!

    Haha! No doubt you have old mate! I've seen the bird nest/ wiring in your Patrol pre rebuild. Its a surprise you have burnt the whole vehicle down yet.

    Based on what you’ve described, it could be worth checking if there’s any resistance in the earth connection, even if everything seems fine visually. A weak or intermittent ground could cause that “squeaking” noise since it’s not allowing enough current to flow through the circuit. I’ve seen this kind of issue before where the connection looks solid, but cleaning or tightening it up fixes the problem.
