Instant on glow plugs - how do they work?

Can someone explain to me the 'mechanics' of how these instant glow plug systems work? The 2.8 TD Nissan and the chev had /have the 6 sec glow process, whereas the latest model hilux and colorado at work you just turn the key and the motor fires. Is this a glow plug design or an injector pressure design thing - curious.

Very possibly a new age pressure situation Philstar, injector pumps these days aren’t as mechanically elaborate as our old timed clackers, merely now elecy tricky lift pumps to feed high pressure bananas maybe?
FWIW: Our 8.3L work Cummins, 12V, requires at least two 900CCA very healthy batteries to start the day without Glow Plugs

It does, but it is a PIA. The forum is meant to be enjoyed over the computer IMHO.
I do use Tapatalk when I have a picture I took using my phone and want to post something involving that picture, so I don't need to transfer the picture to the computer and then post it on a topic. But other then that, I'd rather update myself on the several conversations using the good ol' PC.

Phil your work is in a warmer climate in central QLD yes?. So not warming the cylinders pre start wouldn't matter. Much different to down here in cold Vic. My Territory, not new but a 2016 vintage, needs to be glowed on colder mornings, but warmer morning like today, I just got in and fired her up. They don't need a lot of heat to fire, high compression, high pressure fuel systems, and the injectors on late model vehicles spray the fuel like mist, unlike our old donks which is more like a fire hose spray, so the fuel atomises much better ready to ignite. So when you turn the key to start obviously the glow process starts immediately and I do believe the glow plugs stay on for a period of time after the engine has started to ensure proper fuel burn on a cold engine. The 3ltr ZD30 does this actually. A lot of people disconnect this feature as the OEM plugs are ceramic tipped and there has been cases of the tips falling off and bouncing around the pot like a pinball.
