When I did mine I used a Superchaep Auto "foot operated dip switch" that I screwed to the side of the foot rest to engage/disengage the lockup.
A toggle switch on the dash to "arm" the lockup IE 12 volts to the foot switch, a LED on the dash to show if the lockup was engaged all easy peasy, Both switches, LED and Relay cost less than $50.
Used it onroad, offroad, low range IE everywhere no probs at all and made an amazing difference to the car
