Battery problem

A little off topic here. Big heap of members at my golf club are having major dramas with their golf cart batteries in the cold weather.

Of course every one of them has a different bank of batteries they all believe to be the ducks guts (no end of self styled experts up my way).

Your opinion please Yeti. Beyond the lithium alternative what style of / size of battery should these guys be using.

Using the style that came with the buggy is best. Ie: if it came with wet style batteries stick with it as the charger is designed for that. Unless the charger has different settings you can’t change to lithium or AGM.
It becomes expensive otherwise.
Remember each type of battery has its own charging characteristics.
We supply both wet and Agm batteries and a Charger that’s programmable to suit both types.
We sell a new battery to Australia called Rolls. They come from Canada and have been manufactured since 1908. We supply them with a 18 month warranty.

Thanks for that bloke.
Reckon you'd be spot on re the each type of battery charging characteristics.
Thinking some of these 'experts' may place a little too much value on their opinions.
A matter of they get their heads together and it's "so n so has such n such so that must be the good stuff, I'll give it a crack."
In doing so they get away from the original setup for their carts. A lot of it boils down to dollars, tight fisted bunch up here.

It's the Super Charge MRV70L. It says on the label on the side it's suitable as a deep cycle & cranking battery.

I'm getting it replaced on Saturday under warranty.

They are not an Agm They are a calcium battery and ideal for your application. I used to run 2 of them in my Landcruiser

So I got my faulty battery swapped out today, no problems.

I asked the guy for a receipt for the new battery in case this one dies as well and he said that the warranty runs from the date of purchase. So I bought the original 10 months ago, it has a 12 month warranty, so this brand new unused battery only has a 2 month warranty.

The guy said that's the way it works otherwise you could get a new battery every year. Yeah maybe. I don't know if that's common warranty stuff across everything in the universe or just these batteries?????

But to me, they make a product it should be covered by a warranty because they reckon it's so good it won't break in that time. So my first battery was good enough to warranty for 12 months, but I only have 2 months warranty on the new one. I can see it both ways, but it doesn't seem right to me.

Anyway it was a painless venture & the guy at the shop said he was surprised to see one of these dead as he'd never seen a dead one before, so that added to my confidence in the product.

Yeah I was surprised that a Supercharge battery died. That’s the only brand I’ve used for more than 20 years. Never had an issue. But I think you just rattled the battery to bits on those corrugated roads you did. Or that could have impacted on it somehow. But you got a new one so that’s good.

Well that's good to know @mudski. I'm hoping to get a good long life out of these 2 batteries (crank & aux).

I reckon the AB Hwy may have had something to do with it as well, just hope the 2nd battery keeps on keeping on.
