where do you put your spare wheel GU series 2 tray back

Hi all I am looking for some smart ideas on where to put my spare wheel . I am in the process of fitting a slide on camper to my trey Back . I now know why I see the wheels on the load board of the tray . Where did the wheel go from the factory ? Thanks to all

depending on the tyre size and if you have a Sub Tank i think? they will go between the chassis rails under the tray.

The stock main tank (rear tank) on the leaf sprung variants we’ve had are some 50-75mm higher up than the coil variants and can really only fit pizza cutter spare tyres under there. My series 1 coily with its tank pretty much level top with the chassis rail tops just fits a 35x12.5 BFG but my tray is raised a good 200+mm from stock height too.

some make brackets and hand them off the back,
Im sure there is a pic some where of it done.
could also fit a water tank underneath as well

For the purpose of the thread but may or may not help you Tip12345 mate.
This first picture below shows a Series 1 GU Leafy and just how much higher up their rear main tanks are, probably why many 3.4T GVM tradies don’t put their tyres under there although they are a few hundred millimeters forwards also.

This second picture shows a Series 1 GU Coily with rear main tank well below chassis height on the 3.04T GVM comfy flexy and their furthest back as possible location from stock.

It is a Catch-22 situation unfortunately as the coily’s definitely outperform the leafy’s only in serious 4x4 situations but I too have smashed the life out of its stock lower main tank and now need to raise it like a leafy and mount the spare elsewhere also.

Yes its a right pain in the ass ! I have 8" rims with BFG I don't really want to put it into my new slide on camper . I am hoping when I get the new air bags in I might be able to put it on the load board of the truck .. I will C how it goes I am going to try air bags no springs ! The camper is 650 kgs with water gas etc . I am hoping I have made the right choice .

I have put my spare up on the ute roof rack before mate but it is a mid size rack being an extra cab and the mini standard ute racks may not fit a decent diameter spare? I just found it way too top heavy for the high country scary stuff but would be fine for touring, albeit higher fuel consumption up there. Think I’ll be positioning it vertically on the rear of my new tray/pod/box setup still to come to keep the majority of weight as close as possible to the vehicles centre hard behind the cab. Honestly can’t understand why some twin cab modern all wheel drivers have their loads so far back with the front empty surely begging to snap their chassis’s, plenty of horror photos out there of that setup!

Yes I have had the joy of doing a few chassis repairs ! thinking or moving the diff back ! so as to improve the balance !

Are you kindly referring to mounting a spare wheel upfront like on a bonnet or bullbar (old school LandRover style) ?
On a load carrying ute/tray’s back the spare tyre is generally the least amount to worry about with some blokes packing upwards of some 1,000kg atop of their chassis’s.
Position of all final weights is crucial though I too do agree mate!

Whats your design of your slide of camper? Is there anything stopping you from mounting it 2 the back of the camper?

99.9% of canopy's we build being either being jack off or permanently mounted, tires are mounted 2 the back of the canopy
