Had a tiny hole in my floor!

I noticed that the carpet under my feet in the driver's side foot well was a nice rusty colour.. Not what you really want to see!
It was pretty damp to the touch so i realised there was a hole somewhere that needed fixing.


The carpet was relatively easy to lift up, all that was needed was the removal of the front seat, the seatbelt clip, and a small screw+washer that holds the carpet down under the seat.

I decided that I wanted to install a soundsystem while I had the seats out and carpet up which is why the door panels are off, but that'll be in another post!


Here's the rusty floor. It was right up at the base of the firewall

To fix it, I scraped back all the loose rust with steel wool, then sanded the paint until there was a rough layer of surface rust.

I then sprayed it with a rust converter that seals and primes, then tried to squish as much silicone into the hole as i could to try and seal it all up.

After the silicone, I hit it with a body deadener to seal over the converter and to try and waterproof it.


Then the white paint layer which was matched to the paint code on the car.

And thats it, hopefully it holds the rust off for a while. If there are any other techniques that you guys might be able to recommend, i'm all ears!

While the carpet is still out, shut the doors and spray the the body with a hose to see if there's a leak from around the windscreen, air inlet and firewall.

AS you have it all stripped out have you thought about some sound deadener??

Yeah I’ve covered almost every conceivable part of the inside of the car with dynamat now, I put it all in when I installed the new Soundsystem.
I’ll make a post about it this afternoon probably.

So far I haven’t seen any leaks either, I didn’t test it with the carpet up but I’ve washed the car a few times now and sprayed the whole body with a hose. Haven’t tried a pressure washer yet
