Right state, but not Blackall or Pilliga. Think opals.
FWIW I found Pilliga unpleasant but mainly because it was so crowded (both the campground & the pool. Was full of grey nomads & young kids. But it was during school holidays. Other friends have been there at quieter times & love it.
I'd suggest camping at Pilliga Pottery - amazing 'alternative' sort of a place place & fantastic birdlife & walks - far more than just a pottery, $18 per night. Could do a day trip to Pilliga from there. The Sandstone caves in that area are pretty speccy too.
Blackall was my favourite hot dip. It's a full size swimming pool plus a spa. Spa is a bit hotter than the pool. Ultra clean & cheap. $3 for all day if you wish, & a little kiosk where they sell snacks & cuppas. Camping in town was a bit ordinary though.
