The run of Dirty Harry movies over the last few weeks and continuing tonight.
I can understand why the S&W model 29 sold like hotcakes at the time.

Interesting fact about that pistol: It was a top seller because of Clint's movies, but many buyers found the recoil too harsh, so it became very unpopular and nearly worthless.

I didn't know that.
I think the nostalgic value is brought it back to some kind popularity in this day and age though.

I watched a Vic Police member shooting a 44 mag in the police range. He was lying on the ground shooting, with full body contact on the carpet. Each shot physically moved him backwards on the carpet about 2". The entire range disappeared in smoke after 4 shots and he had had enough after 5 consecutive shots - extremely noisy is an understatement.
